Training Day

Recommended Posts

A small one car train was quietly running down the track deep underground, connecting various sections of the underground portion of the base.  A base much larger and more elaborate than the public believed based on its much less impressive above ground section.  It was inaccurate to say multiple buildings were connected down here,  It was all one large metal box essentially.  A maze of tunnels and rooms, with occasional larger open areas.  It was quite possible no one on the base had the entire layout memorized enough to know where every thing was, without studying maps (which were largely restricted to the higher ranking officers).  Most people down here were just given orders to report where they needed to be and given instructions on how to get there.

This small train included five young pilots to be.  They had been chosen to be the new unit.  Their youth and in some cases mental issues were irrelevant.  They were needed to protect humanity.  They had not seen combat yet, though they would soon.  Right now the train on the way to the simulators, where they would get some practice before being sent out into a real fight.

The idea was also to get them to spend some more time together.  They were all fresh recruits.  They had been briefly introduced to each other but did not really know anything about the others yet.  1 boy, 1 futa, 3 girls, that and their names was about all they knew about each other at this point.  It was silent at the moment, the boy, Kouta was off in his own world as usual.  It was bad enough on normal circumstances but now he was extra distracted, both as the only boy in the group and about the combat they were being prepared for, and training was only slightly less stressful than the actual combat, with some worry he was not going to do very well.

The futanari, Ciara, was feeling anti-social for other reasons.  She was eager to fight, but not so willing to do it with others.  She had put some distance between her and the rest on the train, leaning against the wall of the train and impatiently tapping her foot, wondering how much longer they would be stuck in here.  She had immediately judged Kouta as beneath her and not worth giving the sort of warning she might normally give a boy.  She was more indifferent about the girls, but had no desire to get closer to any of them from what she had seen so far.

Then there was Reina, one of the girls.  She was not bothered like the other two.  Her eyes were glued to the window she was sitting at though, fascinated by many of the things she saw and occasionally letting out an occasional quiet 'oooo' or gasp or other sign she was impressed by what she saw.  If anyone was going to take some initiative to actually socialize and make the unit a little more of a team, it was not likely to be one of these three.

Mei Li sat in her own seat within one of the compartment's four corners, huddled off on her own. There was a boy here, yes, but he seemed harmless. Not that such a thing would lower her guard. It could all be an act. Or he could simply be an idiot. Regardless there were also girls present. In fact they outnumbered the boys! This alone was enough to give her some relief, but even so she did not attempt to socialize. People in general were not something she wanted to be around, girl or no girl. Legs were pulled up within her seat, arms holding them defensively close to her body.

On the other end of the spectrum sat Chibiusa or, as she liked to be called, Chibi. She'd taken a seat closer to the group at large. Hands were settled within her lap, fingers idly working to smooth out her clothes. A smile was ever present upon her lips. It wasn't malicious, but instead soft, warm, and perhaps even inviting. It would be her who spoke up first. Someone had to, right?

"I'm Chibiusa. Chibiusa Ito. But you can all call me Chibi if you'd like. Or Chi if you wish to further reduce it. I look forward to working with each of you."

Kouta showed no hint of reaction, he required a much more direct approach.  If she was going to talk to the group, let someone else be the one to respond.  Ignore it, be ignored.  That was the best way to handle it and easier on him.  Hopefully they would just assume he either did not hear it or if someone else responded fast enough, that he was politely minding his own business.  Ciara was only mildly more responsive.  She found this sort of cheerful happy girl simultaneously charming and annoying in equal measure.  They were less likely to be the sort to cause any trouble for her, but at the same time she could only handle so much of it without.  She was less certain that such a girl would be very effective in the sort of fighting they had been gathered to sure.  A slow nod before her reply.  "Sure, I'll keep that in mind."  She had not stopped looking ahead and impatiently tapping her foot.

Reina, being at least somewhat similar in personality, was the one most willing to respond and was in agreement with the other girl's logic in trying this.  Though she still did turn her eyes from the window.  "Same here!  Let me know if you need any help and I will be glad to so."  A response that was deceptively casual and seemingly just friendly.  No hint yet of how far she would go to help people, that it was almost a request to walk all over her, or that it potentially included intimacy for the boy.

Chibiusa took stock of the answers she received. Her simple greeting had been a sort of test in order to gauge reactions, even if it was also genuine. Mei hadn't spoken up at all. Clearly she'd need more direct greetings. The same had gone for the one boy of the group. Nothing had come from his section either! Again, perhaps she'd want to speak with him in private? It might bring some sort of reaction. Ciara hadn't given much, but a response was certainly better than nothing! Chibiusa returned it with a friendly smile and a nod of her head.

"Its nice to meet each of you! Also feel free to do the same! I am always open to speaking or, well, helping in whatever way I can!"

Reina had the best reaction of all four coworkers! In fact Chibi couldn't help but to feel some sort of similarities between the two of them. Perhaps they might even become good friends!

On the other hand Mei was, well, just being Mei. Quiet. Alone. Just how she desired things to be.
