The Meeting Room

Recommended Posts

Commander Ryan Onikan waited at the head of the large table in the meeting room as he waited for his crew to gather that were going to be on the expedition to explore Planet N259. They had landed on on the large jungle planet a few minutes  ago, their pilot doing a excellent job of landed the ship one of the few grassy open clearings of the other wise thickly vegetated planet.Scans from the BlackStar as they had flew over showed that the planet was close to earth in atmosphere and gravity and showed no signs of radio signals or advanced structures, letting them know that life on this world probably wasn’t very advanced.

The 45 year old leaned against a wall as he waited, holding back a yawn. He had told his crew to go rest as they needed to be in top shape for the landing but he had stayed up most of the time in his office in case of a emergency, only grabbed a few moments of sleep in his chair. He shook off his tiredness, use to this from his time in the war and focused.

Zeeva had been asleep for some time within her quarters. She had been given one of the smaller ones near the front of the ship, but this didn't bother her. The Lunavi were pretty small, and even the smaller bed for her was much larger than the bed she'd slept in on her parent's vessel! When the ship initially started to pass through the atmosphere of N259 she was jolted awake by the slight turbulence thanks to her overly sensitive horns. Hands gripped at the headboard, bracing until the vessel passed into the smoother airspace, at which point she rolled out of her cot. In a flash she'd stripped away the simple white shirt and pink undergarments she wore to bed, exchanging them for her black skintight undersuit! Next she slipped on the pants, and then the shoulder harness, and finally her gloves. They were after all supposed to venture out on a planet today, and she couldn't simply walk out without some form of protection!

I wonder what it'll be like!

Excitedly the young Lunavi departed from her room, hurrying down the halls as she made her way towards the bridge. She stopped however when she noticed that the meeting room was occupied, and after hopping a few times to peer through the port hole she opened the door and ventured inside, stopping to salute the captain! "Good morning sir!" chirped the alien, a bright smile stretched across her lips. "Zeeva is ready for duty!"

Ryan glanced at the door as his first crew member entered the meeting room, his sharp hearing picking the sound of the new recruits quick, soft footsteps before he saw her. A gentle smile pulled up the corner of is mouth, happy to see Zeeva so excited. She had been a prisoner from those monsters that had attacked earth and after she was rescued, most humans hated her and anything that alien. Ryan didn’t blame most people for hating extraterrestrials, as a lot of people lost homes and loved ones from the Scums(A nickname given to the aliens that invaded earth), but didn’t agree that innocent aliens like Zeeva should suffer for someone else’s mistakes. Which is why he had taken the young woman in to train after she had been rescued and was one of the very few that had let aliens work on his ship, like his two trainees.

“Good Morning, Trainee Zeeva.” He said, his voice deep but not to deep. “Did you sleep well?”

The Captain was already up and ready to go, probably before anyone else! It was quite admirable to say the least! Perhaps that was why he had been put in charge of their ship. Or maybe because he was older. She didn't fully understand Human rank and file, but that should have been fine as long as she remembered to salute anyone who seemed senior to her! Of course her being an alien meant that was probably most Humans, just to be safe. Still, she didn't really mind! It was nice to please others!

"Zeeva slept fine! The bed is really big!"

After a few moments had passed she lowered her hand, although she remained standing as straight as she could! Other Humans had done that. Was it the correct thing to do here? Probably! "Is there anything Zeeva can do for Captain? Zeeva is ready to serve!"

Ryan chucked at the young woman energy. She was a hard worker and very eager to please and the Captain had grown fond of her. “You can relax for now, Trainee.” He said.” We just have to wait for the rest of the crew to get here to discuss the plan.”

The man leaned back against the wall, his eyes watching the door, his ears listening for any sound. The medical and security should be here soon, along with the other trainee and their researcher.

Noriko appeared suddenly with... a mixer flask of some sort like the silvery ones you'd see a bartender with. It was always something so absolutely and absurdly nutritious but... there always seemed to be some random side effect.

"Has everyone stayed hydrated? I've brought something in case you need some!" She said this in a motherly sort of tone though in truth she wasn't so much concerned as she was eager to avoid questions about how her science training went. She always skimped a bit but the captain would have some... strong recommendations but not necessarily legitimate orders... to keep her busy with science studies. A little sphere floated beside her displaying temperature and random statistics that didn't match anything one might expect as it actually referred to the conditions of her lab habitats where she had made her concoction of the day.

Noriko smiled and eyed the captain hungrily. She'd behaved herself for a whole ten hours as far as anyone knew. Ah, the salute! She stopped and saluted but then went back at ease without permission. She'd become somewhat accustomed to the science arm of this grand project and had a habit of doing this then even speaking "Captain Onikan..." it wasn't a request for his attention but rather an acknowledgement of sorts like what was done with ranking scientists. Regardless of her standing on the crew the captain here was technically her teacher and guardian.. one of those odd legal quirks of hiring civilians (officially) to ships like this one.

If Captain Onikan made eye contact, even briefly, as usual she would shoot him a lewd gesture to see if she could fluster him and try to talk him into trying this experimental concoction.. a quick licking of her lips this time.

A surprised yip slipped free from the little Lunavi as the buxom Human appeared suddenly behind her! Despite her hyper sensitive horns Zeeva sometimes had troubles detecting the woman's approach. Perhaps she was skilled in stilled movements? Or maybe Zeeva had simply been too distracted by her excitement. Whatever the case the woman's sudden appearance nearly sent her tripping over herself! But thankfully she recovered and swiftly straightened up again, this time turning to present a salute to the woman!

"Good morning-" she started, only to pause. What rank did she use?! Officer? Officer! That was probably it! "Good morning Officer Noriko! Zeeva has stayed hydrated!" the Lunavi continued, only to pause again. "Um, last night! Zeeva has not hydrated since waking! Did Officer Noriko sleep well? Can Zeeva do anything to assist?!"

She was the science lady, if Zeeva remembered correctly! Also she gave the Captain some strange looks, looks which Zeeva had yet to properly decipher. Perhaps she would in due time. Of course her natural curiosity also briefly pulled her eyes first to the floating metallic orb and then to the flask. What was in it? Probably some super secret project, right?

Ryan let out a almost silent sigh as the researcher that would be joining them today walked into the room. Noriko Gogo was a member of their crew that he had been a bit wary of accepting on his crew, as her reputation of a questionable lifestyle was well know. But she was a excellent person in the study of alien life forms and had a almost unnatural way of controlling and studying ET’s, especially wild and animalistic ones and thus was a good addition to the crew, despite some of her stranger habits.

The captain smiled, choosing to ignore the have hearted salute. “Good morning, Miss  GoGo.” He said, his voice calm despite his slight irritation. “Glad that you can join and I look forward to working with you.” The Captain was aware of the looks that the Gogo was giving him and while he did find her very allure he hid it well.

Jaina unstrapped herself from the harness of the pilot's seat, setting the controls of the helm to stand by. When she wasn't in the air or void of space, she always got a little jittery, needing something...or someone to do. She was on the way to go bug and pick on Cayn when she saw that the meeting room door was open. Being the curious natured person, she poked her head in and saw the captain, the little alien girl, and the milf scientist. She smiled widely as she stepped in with a salute to the captain. "Greetings Skipper, don't mind me, just being nosey. I know I'm not on the mission, but it would be handy for someone to know what the plans are just in case something goes wrong." She gave a wave to Zeeva and Noriko as she stepped around the table to take a seat between the two females.

The captain was definitely an older guy than her, but he had a respectable air about him, and he generally put up with her thanks to her skills at the helm. Zeeva was interesting to the pilot. An adorable little alien, she didn't ever seem to be aggressive or cause trouble, so she didn't see an issue with her being apart of the crew. Noriko was total fap material. She was the hot older science lady that always had a very interesting air about her. Jaina always stole quick peeks at her when she walked past, taking chances to view her old races and stunt piloting vids when she was actually in her bunk.

Roc entered the room right after Jaina in his normal human form. His slightly enhanced senses, the were much stronger in his beast form, picked up the scents of all that were going on this first mission were already in the room except for the medical officer before he even entered the room. His red eyes took in the room, nodding to his crew members and saluted his Captain, before taking a seat.

He wasn’t much of a talker, but he wasn’t being rude, it was just the way he was. He smiled slightly at Zeeva, happy to see her. He was most attached to the little alien as she had been a prisoner like him.

Ryan nodded as the two people entered the room. The medical officer that was joining them had already been briefed and was preparing the supplies they needed and would meet them outside.

Ryan moved to the head of the table and pressed a finger on the smooth surface. A 3D image appeared in the air above it, showing planet N259. “Welcome everyone.” He started, his voice commanding attention.”This is a Image of the first planet we have discovered that was safe to land on since leaving the BlackDawn.”

He pressed on the hologram of N259 and a list of info appeared on a floating screen beside it. “The planet is earth like in temperature and atmosphere, but is covered with dense jungles one most of the surface.” He continued. “Scans as we landed indicated several heat signatures of unknown  life forms as they fled from the landing BlackStar, so be extremely careful as it seems that this world could hold many different creatures, so please stay close together.”

“Are first mission is to do a sweep of the area near the Ship, to make sure it is safe to stay in this area.” He said. “Report any discoveries to Gogo that might be important for research and if you spot anything that could be dangerous, let me or Roc know immediately, now any questions before we set out?”

When Jaina had popped in for a visit Zeeva turned, giving the woman a salute as well! "Good morning Officer McReery!" she chirped, scooting a bit to give the Human more room. "Is there anything Zeeva can assist with?" asked the Lunavi. There were so many people gathering within! How was she going to serve all of them?! Life aboard a Human vessel sure was exciting! Even Roc appeared, prompting her attention and another salute! "Good morning Officer Roc! Let Zeeva know if Zeeva can assist with anything!"

How do Humans do it? Maybe I'm doing it wrong? Oh! Maybe I'm supposed to wait and then ask when everyone is gathered? That sounds easier.

She did go quiet and her attention did focus upon the Captain when he started to speak. He was, after all, the main person in charge! Also she was very curious about the new planet they had landed upon. It would be much like Earth, except covered in dense foliage. Also there were new life forms! That was exciting! She couldn't wait to meet them! When a question was put out for questions her little hand did shoot up into the air, the Lunavi bouncing a few times to make certain she was noticed, although once addressed she settled down to ask her question.

"Zeeva need wear helmet? Zeeva need gun?"

The Lunavi had tried shooting Human weapons before during one of their experiments upon her. Suffice it to say her aim was terrible and she almost mishandled the weapon more than a few times. But they were exciting to shoot! Not that she really needed one typically, as the same experiments had determined that her people were quite strong and very difficult to injure, nor did she actually want to hurt anything.

Ryan turned to the Trainee, his lopsided smile back. “You well need to carry a firearm for protection, just in cause, but hopefully Roc or I can handle any trouble.” He said.” But we are hoping that this will be a peaceful mission.” He looked around to see if anyone else had a question, but the crew seemed to be good, so Ryan continued. “Alright gather what you need and meet me outside the Aft Bay doors.”

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Captain Ryan entered the meeting room and sank down into the chair at the head of the table. He had gotten a call from Roc, one of the Security officers that unknown life forms had broken into the ship and had taken two crew members. He had waited tensely as Roc had searched for them and breathed a huge sigh of relief as he brought both back safely.

Both of the people taken had been examined and found them unhurt and well and a complete sweep of the ship had found no other aliens inside. The shield around the BlackStar should keep the aliens out for now and he had called the crew to the meeting room, so they could decide what to do. He leaned back and waited for the crew to get here

The two Security Officers Roc and Hux entered the Meeting room a few moments after the three ladies, followed by Trainee Zac Steel and Researcher Max Carter. X-369 sat on Khalida‘s shoulder staring around the room curiously, it’s large eyes taking everything in.

Hux took a seat next to Camilla, the huge Security Officers body dwarfing the woman beside him, while Zac and Roc sat down together and Max took a seat beside Khaliada.

Rayn waited for his crew to sit before glancing at the door. This was a open meeting for the crew, that anyone could join at anytime and not that you had to attend, as the information would be told to the rest of the crew later and the decision that was made. Ryan glanced back at the people here and decided to start.

“Thank you all for coming here so late at night.” Ryan started, giving them a tired smile of his own. “As you probably guessed a few hours ago the BlackStar was infiltrated by a unknown lifeform, that took two members and tried to escape with them and assaulted a Stowaway the Trainee Zac found.”

“Luckily, Zac was able to subdue the threat before it could harm the woman and was able to let Officer Roc know what happened.” He continued, giving Zac a thankful nod. “Officer Roc was able to quickly save the two crew members that had been taken and bring them home. They were not hurt and a search of the ship showed no other life forms inside, while the ship’s shields should keep things out.”

The Captain took a breath, before looking towards Carter. “Mr Carter was able to do a very quick study of the creature that Zac had knocked out and found that it was Insect like in nature.” He said. “And thanks to one of the kidnapped crew members, we learned that they have a hive mind and communicate through thought. And also that the creatures were targeting females and seemed want to take them to the main hive of the creatures.”

He stopped to look at his crew, letting them absorb the information. “Now the reason for this meeting is to decide what to do next.” He said. “The creature’s, given their insect like nature, could have huge numbers that is more then are small crew can handle. On the other hand this planet could hold many valuable resources for earth and I would hate to leave it without studying it farther, as that is our main mission. So, any thoughts on the subject?”

Captain Ryan waited a moment before continuing. “I think we have a couple of choices.” He said. “We can leave and mark this planet as to dangerous or we can take a more risky path and send out a team to try and discover the nest of the creatures and see how big of a threat they are and if it can be done, eliminate the nest.” Ryan paused glancing at Carter before continuing. “Thanks to Carter’s quick study of the creature we know that they don’t like bright light, which is probably why they waited for night to attack the ship.” He said. “So, during the day we should be safer, which would give us time to find the nest tomorrow after the sun has risen and if they are followed by a Security Guard, have some of the researchers study the planet near the ship.”

Ryan looked around the room, waiting for input from the crew here.

Darla still finds it weird for herself to sit down, but has been learning that it's part of regular meeting protocol during such proceedings. She looks around the room to see who is showing up, documenting the turn-up along the way as well as when each member of the crew arrives. She took notes about the issue brought up in details as well as the points made by a crew member regarding his thoughts about the matter and possible choices for the crew to make and carry out. Within a few minutes she chimes in with her own thoughts on this matter."Captain, I have a few inquiries: A) Is this matter related to our ship's main objective? 2) Have the scientific method been successfully applied to the theories about how these creatures behave and the method that is claimed to be effective against them? C) We need to determine if the use of ship ressources, including crew members, outweigh the gain of such a mission. I think it is best to determine a course of action with these perimeters accounted for first", the AI says, speaking her concerns and questions.

-------------------

Unlike the other people here, Camilla is much more laid back and carefree in her attitude, mostly visible by her putting her feet up onto the table she sits near. She listens to the AI jammer on about this and that, only half way listening to its words. She is seen yawn from time to time as well. Luckily, she does have manners. etiquette and patience enough to wait for her time to speak as well."What'cha talkin' 'bout there computer lady? We just need tah toss some of them there big bullet spitters on some big boys and mow them's sons'bitches down", she says in a tone of voice showing her eagerness to get into the field and shoot shit up.

Khalida had glanced towards X-369, her hand moving up to lightly pet it's head. She had taken a moment, a nod from herself being given to the other four that had entered after them. The silver haired female had thought thought a moment after listening to Ryan's reasoning and what their next moves should be. She seemed to have stayed silent before she opened her mouth to begin to speak. Her hands were folded across her lap.

"If I'm being honest, from a researchers point of view, it would be more beneficial to stay on this planet for a little bit longer." She began, pausing for a moment to think. "It would be important for our safety to go first. I agree on scouting the area out, and make sure if this planet is truly safe or not. Plain brute force wouldn't work if their nest is bigger than expected."

Max Carter stayed quite as the other crew members talked, leaning forward on the table in a relaxed manner. “My tests on the creature that we captured, while a bit quick, was done correctly.” The man said, answering Darla’s questions about the creature’s behavior. “There is always a element of unknown when encountering a new creature, but my vote goes to finding the nest, to at least see what we are up against. As Khalida said, this planet is rich in minerals and life, a to valuable thing for the dying earth to just flee from without trying to see if with can handle a some bugs.”

Hux nodded in agreement with Camilla, eager to fight.

Ryan listened to team, before turning to Darla. “While I don’t want to put my crew members in harms way, Earth needs these resources, so I’m leaning to more finding the nest, even just to see how big it is, but what do you think Darla?”

Darla listens on with the presented arguments and information that shapes the conversation and in the end will likely determine what is going to happen for the ship and its crew."I am well aware of the ressources that are to gain, but those are not likely to vanish due to the presence of a insect-like lifeform present on the planet. Therefore, I think it would be better to call for proper reinforcements to help with the extraction of said ressources. There is absolutely no logical reason to rush in and risk needless lives", the AI argues back.

Ryan listened to Darla’s logic agreeing that it made the most sense. He decided on a compromise. “I think the best bet would be to take the BlackStar and do a Scan sweep of the terrain nearby. We can see if we can find the nest and the size of it.” He said, before tapping his earpiece to let the pilot to know what to do. The  Scanner was a useful tool as it could create a 3D image of the ground as it sent out sonar waves that the ship could pick up as the bounced back and turn into a image. It was so powerful that it could even determine what was under the ground to a depth of 50 feet. It could also be used to pick up heat signs as well.

The BlackStar Slowly moved upward and started to skim over the planets surface. A  image soon appeared in the middle of the table the were around as the Scan started. The Captains eyes widened as ship traveled, the scans showing something unbelievable. The planet was filled with a maze of underground tunnels that stretched for miles and miles in all directions. Blurry images of hundreds and hundreds of the creatures could be seen moving then as well. Giant mounds of dirt and rock piled in hills that marked openings to the surface dotted the landscape. After thirty minutes of scanning, they hadn’t found a end to the tunnels, the maze spreading farther and farther. The colony of creatures was huge and was much to big of a problem for them to handle.

Ryan sighed. “Looks like this is to big of a problem for us.” He said. “Let’s mark this planet as resource rich, but overrun with a hostile life form that needs more armed forces to take care of.” He stood up and looked at his crew. “I’m sorry to cut this first mission short, but we will moved the BlackStar into a safe space above this planet, then warp to the next planet on are list in the morning.” He continued “You all go get a good nights rest and we will jump tomorrow morning.”
