Foyer

It was once a glorious day for the town of Pine Heath,  at the Midnight Mansion it was likewise an excellent day. It was true that the Mansion and its territories or "properies" belonged to a pack of Werewolves known as the Midnight Pack.  They have been here for a few hundred years, between warring with other packs they eventually drove out and eliminating the undead. Vampires. However,  three years ago changed the way the pack had to think, a deadly plague swept through Pine Heath and killed off most of the pack, leaving only perhaps two dozen Wolves in the aftermath.

But the plague had only lasted so long. The bodies were burned, a common ritual, however loved ones couldn't see the cremation in case the plague could strike them as well. Since then, Wolves have come and gone, many died and new pups were ever brought into the world. Three years ago it was alarming for the Alpha, but now he tried whatever he could to prevent the Midnight Pack from collapsing. To him, it was a second chance at life when he became leader, and thanks to him a variety of competition were either driven away or completely demolished,  some of those Wolves even joining Midnight.

Austin Windcaller, rightfully his Wolf-Blood Birthright, "Auvunux," was the Alpha of the Midnight wolves. A leader for five years, fearless as he was vicious, honest as he was true to his people. Now, he looked into a mirror after lopping off all of his dreadlocks, shaving down his beard and hair until they were short. It hurt his pride somewhat, cutting the very things that helped define the "brutal and strong" man, but as of recent, he needed a new look. The massive man, standing over seven feet in height had washed off his body and dried,  slipping on a white t-shirt abd jeans, finishing off with boots.

Austin exited his room and closed the door, he then made his way to the Foyer and afterward leaned against wooden handrail, looking down abd throughout the massive room he now stood. At one point,  he has seen it filled, and now it felt like a ghost town in the mansion save for the members that lived and actually stayed. He started to think of the past, his upbringing from Man to Wolf, staring off into space and not paying much attention to everything else around him.

As a scout, and a survivor of a vicious Vampire attack, Selene had spent a lot of time unintentionally honing her senses. It kept her safe from predators and allowed her to more easily avoid others. Of course Austin was an older werewolf, a very sneaky one too. Without focusing she couldn't easily detect his approach, and this was true in the morning today. However when he ended up leaning against the same bannister that she had fallen asleep upon Selene felt it. Her eyes flickered open, body sat up swiftly, and immediately she lost her balance and tumbled over onto the top landing, thankfully having rolled the right way.

Why had she fallen asleep upon the bannister? She had been interested in seeing how long she could remain balanced atop it. Eventually she'd taken to laying down on it, and then she'd simply gotten comfortable enough to sleep. Heck, she had been used to sleeping in trees. This was nothing! Well, until she'd woken anyways. Now it was just sort of awkward.

Sitting up on her knees the young werewolf lifted her hands, rubbing at her face. When she finally caught notice of the Alpha her face reddened. Despite her embarrassment she shot up to her feet, lowering her head respectfully towards the massive man. She wasn't a pup anymore, unfortunately. Now she had duties to perform. Also, she had to worry about mating season. At least, she had to worry about it more than she did in the past. Thankfully it didn't appear as though she'd caught anyone's eye, but then she also knew that it didn't really matter much when it did happen.

Wait, why was she concerning herself with that? It wasn't as though mating season was soon, right?

Oh. My dream.

Right. The dream. It had been a pretty intense one, and while it hadn't involved the Alpha it was easy enough to imagine the man within it. Thankfully her embarrassing tumble was enough to cover the other embarrassing thoughts which now crept into the back of her mind. Pondering upon other things was probably for the best.

I wonder if he'll have me doing anything today. Maybe if he doesn't I should go to the springs.

For a second the Alpha almost drifted off tona trance-like-sleep, eyes open and all until something from his peripheral caught his attention.  He looked down as if to acknowledge whatever was going on beneath, seeing a certain small wolf looking up red faced. Had he done something wrong? Austin gazed downward wirhbq calm expression however it may seem like pity, maybe thats just how a resting bitch face worked as these young kids called it.

"Selene..." Austin starts, pausing for a minute to think about his question, "What are you doing tonight?"

The question seemed odd to say the least. Normally his questions fell on matters of seriousness or chores, perhaps one could perceive it as a test? But the question was just that, a question of curiosity, nothing important now or perhaps never. Regardless a question from an Alpha is to be answered no matter.

There was a brief moment of awkward waiting which hung within the air. He hadn't actually acknowledged her, as it turned out. She was embarrassed over nothing! In fact he probably hadn't noticed her little fall, and if she was quick enough he might not even notice her flustered state! Hands lifted, rubbing at her cheeks in a futile attempt to wipe away her embarrassment. Perhaps if she simply tip-toed away-

His gaze shifted, and suddenly she was within his line of sight! The young werewolf straightened out immediately, hands resting at her sides once more, fingers playing nervously at the fabric of her dress. Then he spoke. A simple question: what was she doing tonight?

Wait. Why would he ask that? That means he has something in mind, right? Maybe training? Teaching? W-what if it's something more?!? He is the Alpha. No, no, that's silly. He wouldn't. Right?

Her silence lingered. Seconds passed. Then she remembered the question, face growing hotter for another moment while she answered softly, quietly.

"I have no plans, s-sir."

That was kind of normal for her too. Typically she took each day as it came, unless ordered otherwise. Lingered within the woods. Scouted, occasionally, even sometimes on her own. She was a pretty darned good scout, if she did say so herself! Being small and quiet helped. Of course it meant in a fight she wasn't quite as dangerous, especially given her inexperience in such matters, but still! That just meant she needed to avoid fights! It helped that she could quickly navigate the forests too. Running away was another specialty of hers'!

Calming somewhat, she forced herself to continue speaking. Getting used to it was good, especially with the Alpha! "What about you, sir? Do you have any plans?" She paused. "Anything I can help with?" Selena asked timidly. Probably not, she figured, but asking looked good!

The answers and questions seemed reasonable enough. Nervousness,  something Selena had always been around the Alpha, their size difference was completely clear to everyone. If only he had been shorter then maybe she wouldn't gave been as nervous... Maybe. But what about Austin? He had no plans, normally he hunted and scouted, he didn't want ti resort to games until the winter settles in which was quite soon. But for the time being, what shall he do?

"Hmmmm..." Austin thought on it for a moment, "I have nothing either, it seems my schedule is free for a night."

There was a variety of things that Selena could help with, however... Those things weren't necessarily for the faint of heart. Not in the violent way, but rather in a softer manner. It was arriving to that time of season, however despite not wanting to do anything regarding that season, Austin had also seen the pack crippled and that was enough to cause incentive to get involved. However his mind was not on that subject, he needed to get out of the mansion, relax a little, and Selena seemed to be the perfect opportunity for that.

"If you don't mind me asking, where were you headed? If it was away from here, I could join, I feel... Cramped, despite the free space here." Austing admitted, his low tone seeming to vibrate the wood before then even when his voice wasn't all that vocal.

It was somewhat amusing, the feeling which hung over the poor girl's head. The massive Alpha's gaze felt like a predator looming over its prey, even if he hadn't meant for it! Was she not supposed to be the predator here!? But then it seemed to feel that way with just about anyone with her. Selene was simply a meek individual. Their difference in size only magnified this. Well, that and his status.

As it turned out, his schedule was free. He held no intentions. Inwardly she breathed a sigh of relief. Not that she was fully opposed to the idea of engaging in such things, especially with the Alpha, but was she ready for them? Was she ready to face that? Heck, could she even handle that with someone of his size? It probably wouldn't be as bad as she thought, but one such as her, who lacked experience with such things, was certainly going to feel that way! The natural timid nature didn't help matters either.

While such thoughts lingered within the back of her mind Selene's cheeks still held a faint fluster. Still, she mostly calmed down. At least, until he asked about what her plans were, for the thoughts brought up from that were enough to also stir a bit of heat within her body. "A-ah, um, I was going to Wolf's Head. To bathe."

It's just a bath! Nothing has to happen! Right?

Mustering her courage, she continued! "I w-would not mind if you joined me, sir." It was probably safer this way anyhow. Also, she was still a curious young woman, and despite her meekness she still felt those cravings herself. A chance to peek? It both helped and hurt the current circumstances! Or, at least, the clarity or lack thereof for her mind.

Austin nods, now walling around and down the steps of the Foyer to meet the young woman. The closer he drew the smaller she seemed and their sizes easily comparable now. Austin had been with the pack for eight years, three honing his power and five years, with a faster mastery than many wolves became the Alpha ever since the Old Man passed away. Old Man, being Jamie Fultz, the original Alpha was the wisest and perhaps the fastest of the Midnight. He was the reason the Night Master of Blackthorne was heavily crippled before Alicia Blackthorne took over. But that was long before Austin's time, and now here the big man stood in the empty halls of the mansion.

Right now it was just him and Selena, everyone else was invisible. It had been sometime since he had truly left the mansion for anything besides for missions and scouting, so this was a nice change of pace. The Alpha was already set to go, though he looked the same there was that slight change in his body tone, he was ready and eager. He started to make his way down the steps and toward the entrance door, opening the great big doors and holding one open fir Selena.

"Lead the way." Austin nodded to the little wolf, watching her as she moved.

It wasn't until Austin moved closer that the size discrepancy became truly obvious. She could stack another one of herself on top of her own shoulders and she'd be at around his height. Of course she knew she was short, she understood that others were generally bigger than her, but this? This was something else! He was just huge! The obvious naughty thoughts came to pass briefly across her mind.

Nope! Nu uh! Don't even think about it!

But alas, she had, and it showed upon her face. Thankfully she had already been embarrassed by so many other things, and this acted as a cover for the poor girl. He didn't stay long, passing her by, and when he did she let loose a hushed sigh of relief. A dip in some water could really do her some good right about now.

When she heard the heavy door swing open Selene turned and led the way out, nodding once towards her Alpha upon passing. Lead the way she would!

  • 2 weeks later...

It was night out already, the cold wind of Pine Heath blew all around the area as fall was ready to come to its spookiest tine of the year, Halloween.  Though they were just 16 days short, the season gave the town great vigor to decorate and go all out every year or for any holiday ot seemed. A black SUV rolled down the paved roads of the forest until reaching the outer yards of the Midnight Mansion. It drove slowly past the gates where several scouts and Warriors noticed something odd about it. There was a scent surrounding the vehicle combined with a single Human however that scent being almost lime the Alpha's. The individuals scattered abd took places for an ambush, one of them waiting at the steps of the mansion to greet who it is.

Once the SUV was parked a Human in a suit got out of the driver's seat, he moved over opening the back driver door abd out cane three tall, silver and white haired individuals that were well dressed, two males and a female. The lone wolf at the door greeted the trio as the driver opened the trunk and starts to pull out cases and bags, the wolf questioned them however a few words uttered the wolf realized the severity of the situation.  Quickly they bowed in apology and beckoned the three in.

Once they were in, the Warriorvwould go and try to find the Alpha leaving the trio in the massive Foyer. One whistled, unkempt hair brushed enough to be considered passable abd said, "Midnight Mansion... Wonder if Uncle is awake?"

What a lovely night it was; the waning crescent moon shining above and shadows all around. Oh yes, traveling from Blackthorne to here was a breeze~ Oh so convenient. Literal shadow walking allowed for easy and swift travel from point A to point B without much incident. It was also a a much used stealth technique used on the silly wolves and their out dated antics. Buried in tradition and set in their ways, their tactics never seemed to cease to amaze him. No matter how concealed he was, he wasn't trying to hide his presence in the slightest so many of those mutts out in the woods would be on edge and noses full of his scent. Unfortunately for them shadows tend to disperse smells due to their interconnections with one another. They would be pre-occupied for a while at the very least.

Coming up to the estate, Donovan would hop out of a shadow but remain in the thickness of the trees. Headlights blinding him a moment as his own violet orbs reflected back for a brief moment. Cars were a fairly convenient tool, nothing beats fresh air though. Watching as the three silver haired wolf pups coming out of the car he just snickered. Obviously not the Alpha but it would be an interesting prospect to seduce and possibly take one home. No bad Donovan! He reluctantly pushed the thought down; DEEP DEEP DEEP down. "Ugh so unfair~" He would groan into a small click of his teeth as he enjoyed the thought while it lasted. He had a mission to complete and whether or not he was wanting to disobey he really didn't want to deal with any nagging from the 'old man'. Fucking hell this sucks!

Coming out of the shadows, at first his foot steps were silent in the grass until the heel of his derby shoes crunched against the small pebbled gravel. Being so tall his gait was long and he closed the distance rather quickly hiding any ill intentions. Waving a hand and a fake smile flashing his fangs he purposefully identified himself. Hell he even had a white kerchief in his other hand showing no harm. How badly he wanted to. "Yo kiddos! Is the Alpha around anywhere?" He was patronizing and yet his voice cheery and misleading. His eyes flashed to their surprised faces his grin growing wider. The bloodlust was rather hard to keep down as he imagined how their heads would look adorned on his walls. Be good Donovan~ The butlers altered words would say which had him in check for now. "I'm an envoy from the Blackthorne's and I'm here to deliver an invitation." His voice was probably like butter as he had sophistication and class despite his inner demons struggling to stay locked away.

The three stopped in their tracks, well before Donovan made his approach they could smell or even "sense" something was coming. When the shadowy individual seemed to form from the shadows itself. The waves merely started with one Warrior running into the mansion to rally anyone else, but otherwise even when the vampire introduced themselves the three just stared like he was an idiot. Itbwasnt everyday you see something or someone appear our of nowhere, however the three approached as stoic as ever... In truth they were curious. The female stayed behind by the SUV while the males went to inspect the foreign individual.

In perfect Slovak the younger looking of the two asked the other, "Vieš kto to je?" ["You know who this is?"]

"Ani v najmenšom," ["Not in the slightest,"] The other states shrugging but then sniffed, saying in near-excitement instead of panic or fear, "Oh! Páchne ako hlboká špina, myslím, že toto je nemŕtvy!" ["Oh! He smells like deep dirt, I think this is an undead!"]

"Áno áno! Poprosím ho!" ["Yes yes! I'll ask him!"] The youbfer replies in again excitement, then turns to the vampire and asked in English riddled with Slovak accent, "You, are you undead? Vampeer they call you, I have never seen one before! You smell like turned dirt!"

They were just kids, and by the look of their faces were priceless. Seeing a warrior run inside, he knew he would be swarmed and for the moment he stayed still not coming closer. While they looked young, he could sense they were 'trained' well. Still it didn't stop him from beginning to bellow in laughter from their questions. The old language how he missed it. Having travelled all over the world he learned many a language, Slovak his favorite.

Speaking in an equally perfect repeat of the language he would speak some. Doing things and being familiar was an easy way to lure in prey. "Hlboká špina. Zranil si ma." [Deep dirt. You wound me.] He would say slightly dramatic as he made the signature back of his hand on the forehead gesture. "Áno! naozaj som. Vydesí ťa to?" [Yes. I am indeed. Does that scare you?] His voice a tease and strained as he was trying to contain the urge to just appear before them and tinker with them. So young, so sturdy; eager younglings. He hadn't gotten the chance to examine wolf pups so young. Donovan was almost salivating with the itch however he actively planted his feet into the ground so he wouldnt be tempted to move. "Now do you know where the Alpha is? I'm here for Austin the leader of this tribe. Urgent business you see." Donovan's purple eyes looked past them to the girl. She was staying quiet and not interaction but that just intrigued him some more. They were all related; fertile mom.

The younger quickly replies, "Samozrejme, že nie! Pumpuje mi to krv!" ["Of course not! It pumps my blood!"]

It was quite evident that the group had no fear nor concern of the vampire, rather curious than not but the question, "Why," Could explain that they have never seem one. Thete was a mischievous grin that grew across the face of the younger and he shrugged at the vampire, negligence of information, abd he quickly responded back, "Alright, I'll tell you if you can do one thing," The Wolf made an invisible 'X' across the right of his chest, he splayed his arms out to either side as an invitation and said, "If you punch me as hard as you can, and you survive a punch from me, I'll tell you where he is! You'll go first, then me! Ready?"

June had rinsed and dried off before getting dressed and walking back home holding her mates hand. It had been so long since they had spent any real personal time together and now he had said he was hers for the night.

Upon returning home and seeing the vampire inside her home June let out a growl of anger and uneasiness but said nothing as she waited for Austin to deal with the intruder.

Donovan found the younger wolf boy very amusing. Though his mischievous nature left him wanting more but alas he had to stay neutral. So he was getting annoyed by the situation as it showed on his face. Taunting wouldn't get a rise out of him and he was wary of the quieter brother. It seemed they were a trio that worked like a small squad; the small one instigates and then the other two have his back if it gets too dicey. Putting up a singular hand in the universal sign for stop he would then wave it and shoo them away. "I don't have time for you to be playing games. Just tell me where the Alpha is I need to deliver a message." His voice was less playful and more stern as he felt the presence of another. Eyes flicked over to the door seeing a strong female, well relatively strong compared to to the kids she seemed lack luster in his opinion. Good thing they couldn't read minds. "Hey lady get your Alpha already!" He hollered to the female staying in place. His patience was wearing thin and his body language was shifting subtly.

But Austin was not there. Instead June had hugged an arm of another Warrior who seemed to blush at the ideal that the Luna may have liked him. No, as fast as the Vampire made his demand his head was grabbed from behind, twisting the  creatures gead completely around to fave the malevolent visage that was the Windcaller. That very name shook the foundry of Blackthorne and more so silenced many outside Covens and Packs that dared war with Midnight, the name envoked fear abd caution. Every tale thought a myth about this man was very, very true.

The Alpha raised the Vampire up by his head, starting to crush with little strength but didn't destroy him. Not yet. The Wolf's tone was heavy but low, eyes filled with wrath and bloodlust, his voice quietly rung out, "You dare enter my territory, dare to make demands to my woman and nephews, and expected to be treated as some bestowed guest? You're foolish to have come around here,  Leech."

Donovan was seriously just trying to do the task given to him. How annoying, so god damn annoying! He wasn't trying to own anything; stupid woman. The sun would be up soon and personally he didn't want a case of bad sunburn. Gritting his teeth, he was holding himself back, his hands now going to his sides. Eyes narrowing he would click his teeth just standing there waiting for the Alpha to arrive. Such territorial things wolves. Blinking and again his neck was snapped and the world turned rapidly for him. AGAIN! "YOU GOT TO BE FUCKING KIDDING ME! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE TO FUCKING TOUCH ME UNPROVOKED!?" At first he just hissed and stayed that way for a good while memorizing the Alpha's face. 'I'm going to torture him first and bleed him dry! Fucking mutt!' Fangs bared and nose snarled up the Alpha's grip would suddenly be gripping at air as a swarm of crows enveloped his vision as the crafty vampire disappeared into the shadows.

A rumbling of magical energy began to shake the estate as large black walls made of dark energy enveloped the two. The sky blackened more and an echo of his voice could be heard. "You could say a war can be started with your actions Austin. I came here in peace even waving a white flag. Unless you want your precious truce to be null and void I suggest you listen. I will not warn you again." While he could take on the Alpha they still had the truce, they still had reason. Though no one else could hear what they were saying. Donovan's bloodlust seeping into each word as he stood before the Alpha clearly agitated and ego bruised. Why couldn't these beasts just listen for once in their miserable existence? "I have a message from the mistress of the castle to invite you and your mate to dinner. For discussions of renegotiations of the truce. Decline and it will be war I guarantee." The dark energy seemed to swirl around him as he faced off with the leader of this pack.

June quickly grabbed onto her mates arm trying to stay close to him. Were all the vampires like this or just this one? June had come in after the truce was in place but if anyone was to be at fault for breaking it she saw this intruder as the cause not Austin. Her mate was instinctively protecting his home and family and if Alicia started a war over that then she should have sent someone else how knew not to do anything that might upset Austin but this vampire was order the pack like he was in charge, ordering the Luna like she was a servant! Using his powers in wolf home.....he was asking to be killed in her opinion.

Austin felt an arm grab him but quickly he would forcefully push the individual away with little effort, he didn't need a casualty protecting him getting in the way. Whether it was June or no he could care less, his attention was on the vampire who was enraged, in the vampire who came in making demand on his territory. If they were smart they would stop, but talks of war settled an oddly calm expression on the Alpha's face. He was unfazed by the powers that be, and instead of cowering or backing away he instead started to walk forward and closer to the undead creature that was Donovan.

Stopping short of several feet to press into the personal bubble, the Alpha simply stared at the creature, an expression of pity in his eyes were clear and true. However he didn't advance an attack, he could easily break apart the vampire piece by piece but he didn't. Instead he cleared his throat. Austin was not often the type for diplomacy but it appears it was needed, he figured the Luna would have stepped in and have a word of wisdom when the Beta was gone. Such a disappointment.

"Tell your Master that I will be there, Leech. One hour, that will give us time between now and sunrise to get this... Meeting handled. Now begone, before I change my mind." Austin's tone was deep but calm much like a storm, his tone however threatened action should the vampire stay.

The Alpha looked back to June with an odd glance giving her a lot of thought in these coming days. There was a lot of emotion he had toward her, both negative and positive, more the latter than the former but regardless it was there. He signed and turned, moving past her form as soon as the Vampire had left ignoring anything they said. He turned his back on the individual, which meant that he thought very little of Donovan and was of no threat at all. Approaching his nephews his demeanor changed, his shoulders relaxed and he gave the two boys a might hug crushing the necks.

With a mighty laugh, Austin spoke, "My boys! How long has it been?! You're both all grown men now!" Then he let them go, both Nathan and Ricard choking and coughing catching their breaths, Austin approached the shy wolf by the car who seemed to only shy away even more with a blush, "And I assume you are May? You too have grown."

Immediately she was pulled into a soft but embracing hug that only lasted a few seconds, then was pulled away with a grinning Uncle staring at her, "You have indefinitely grown! The last I had seen you, you were but a child. Come! Let the four of us celebrate your return to Midnight!"

Donovan wasn’t intimidated by the taller man. His bark was not so bad, his bite stung that was for sure. Deep down Donovan realized that he was much weaker than he cared to admit. Because of his proclivity to experimentation and lack of fighting prowess he never considered he would have to fight for real one day. This irked hi, a knot in his stomach formed of inadequacy and the continued annoyance that seethed in his veins. Though the Alpha was smart pushing his mate away. She would have been easier to take out than she may have realized. He wasn’t trying to take ownership of this land either, he had no stake in doing so; though now his view of the wolves soured more that he didn’t even consider them worth much more of his time.

Slowly the walls of darkness began to recede back into the earth with an ethereal wailing of what sounded like the dark forces of night. The darkness had a voice and it was ever present. The Alpha made his demand and turned his back towards Donovan. Death loomed and bloodlust was still there but the calmed monsters of the night stayed their aggression and he would give a curt nod. “Glad to have finally gotten an answer. I’m done here wolf. Till we meet again~” And with that the vampire disappeared into the shadows his presence gone from the world of wolves.

June suddenly felt like she meant nothing as she not only got pushed away but was also ignored by her own mate who suddenly forgot all about being with her in favor of his family. June's heart broke and she did her best to hide but the sadness and regret for having inconveniencing her mate just now was very clear in her voice "I'm sorry, I hope your four have fun reuniting. I'll....I'll be in our room should you desire my company Austin" she bowed and then quickly ran off before he could stop her. She had troubled him enough and didn't want to be anymore of a burden or awkward company. She would hide in their room, cry herself to sleep and wait for him to return to her and if he wished it she would be his to fuck but that seemed unlikely to her at the moment.

June slowly entered the foyer and looked around. For the first time in a year the entire foyer was empty and she found a spot to sit and cry. How had she let this happen? Two years ago she had been working hard, doing everything she could to help the help the pack and become its new luna. She had wanted to help but somehow she let her feelings for Austin cloud her judgment and now she was about to lose everything she had worked for.

June sat in the silence letting her sadness override her thoughts and letting her inner wolf take over as the realization that no one in the pack liked her anymore....maybe selene...but no one else. Even Austin had grown tired of her and was telling her to leave his side. She had asked him while at the spring if they could use tonight to renew their bond as mates, for her to restart her life as luna....tonight was the two year anniversary of her becoming his mate, now the date was going to a forever constant reminder of her life...her world ending.

June looked at the door that and at the book that was often used to leave notes and found herself wondering if Austin would even notice she had left. Everyone obviously wanted her gone, Austin had said her time was up.... if she was no longer his mate would he even go searching for an orphaned wolf he took in off the streets or would he see his pack as better off with her gone? She mumbled to herself out loud in the empty room "I bet they'd party and celebrate the riddance of the useless wolf" Austin had plenty of wolves begging to be his, he'd most likely move on without a second thought about her. She glanced back towards the inside of the mansion, if she left now she could be to the pine Heath port before Austin returned, possibly on a boat leaving his territory forever before he could catch her. She walked over to the message and touched it. Would anyone stop her? Would anyone even care?
