Corrupted Video Game

Got a fun idea that doesn't involve any of my characters.  A human from the real world goes to play his favorite videogame only to have trouble getting the blasted thing to work.  When it does, some of the characters are glitchy and move funny.  Unable to afford paying a technician, the player tries to fix the game himself and gets sucked in! And man, is the game world weird, now!

The primary concept to this idea is altered characters - female versions of male characters.  The Mario Sisters, the Heroine of Time, a more feminine fighting robot, to name a few.  It's possible to fix the game from the inside... but will you want to?

Note: It has to be a game I've played, but I've played more than my fair share. :3 Games with diverse lore make good candidates.  Games with playable female characters don't have to involve genderbending, though I am looking to play as a female.  The real question is how would you change a game world if you could live in it?
