The Really Cliche Stuck-in-a-Video-Game Trope: Our characters are best friends who grew up together. During a typical day playing the good ol’ vidja games, they somehow get sucked in and are stuck. The genre of the game and other circumstances can be discussed later so some fun collaboration can occur!
Soulmates (But with a Twist!): Everyone is born with a soulmate. This is done not only for happy romance reasons, but also for practical reasons. Every person belongs to one of two categories; one who has magic powers that come with price of insanity or worse (MC) or a controller who is the only one who can keep their powers in check (YC). Certain pairs that show amazing potential are drafted into the military to help protect the country.
