  1. You can answer and dicuss the questions here.
  2. @WickedCadrach @WritesNaughtyStories @Chiyako @DreamsnThings We look down on Potter's Neck most popular attraction, conveniently located right next to the bridge taking people on and off the island, Playland. There's a steady flow of people going through the different attraction, mostly families visiting from a far. We zoom in closer to look at the concessional booth. A narrow building whose roof is shaped to look like a hotdog. The summer sun beaming down on the mostly plastic building leaving the inside sweltering. The various grills did not help. Leaving the poor girl working there alone drenched in sweat, with little but a small desk fan to cool her down. It was late in the day and Derek hadn't showed up today, so Robin had been working alone. The work load wasn't that high, but it did mean she didn't have the chance to leave the booth for a short break. Selene was on her way home, but stopped to visit Robin and get her daily snack. They are were chatting. What were they chatting about? As the two chatted a small gang of their peers started to crowd. Mostly football players and popular girls. Notable among them was Velvet. The group was murmuring about a party. Derek's parents were out so he was throwing a party at their beach house. How does Velvet know these people? Why is she hanging out with them? A couple of the girls were pointing at Dylan sitting on a bench people watching. One blushed, the other giggled. Back at the booth, the door on the side opened. It was Derek, tall athletic guy with an outfit screaming "Don't you know who my dad is?" He made a fake smile and said: "Thanks for covering, I had a long ass day." He kneeled down and picked up a handful of drinks from the fridge, placing them on the counter for his friends to take.
  3. Your darkest self is supposed to be the state you're in when you lose control of your monstrous part You stop being a teenager and you give in to your monstrous cravings. This often means you take on the role of the villain of the story, and that might work well for an opening scene. But really the point of an opening scene is to figure out what kind of narrative we're looking for. So for a first season I don't think I want to start you out in your darkest self.
  4. I'll try to type out something resembling an opening scene, and we'll see how the story goes from there. But first I must rest. I think we'll try to do just one scene at the time, and then we'll work together to make sure each main character gets enough screen time. If this this game turns out to just gain more momentum as we start we can consider making it a club. For dice rolls I'll just trust you. Roll your physical dice, use a digital dice roller, ask your mom for a number between 2 and 12, pick one yourself. I tend to find people who play ttrpgs love rolling dice, just let me know the results as I get to do an mc move when you fail.
  5. A sympathetic token is part of the witch playbook. It serves as a string in most ways, except she can use it to cast hexes. Just double checking. We haven't given any strings to side characters right? And I'm starting to think I'll do questions in this thread so we can have discussions about them in parallel with narration.
  6. I've been unavailable for the last 16 hours, you'd think that wouldn't leave you with a long backlog of things to do, but here we are. Scenes are a very common pacing element PbtA uses. Imagine our game through the medium of serialized tv program. Each scene is begun by me framing the scene. Where is it? Who's there? What is happening? And most importantly. What are you doing? This is to build up tension. A scene ends when all when it feels appropriate, that there's nothing more interesting to explore in this scene. Or one of us gets uncomfortable so we just cut. Every character may not be in every scene. Robin having an argument with Charlotte does not need any other players. Me as the MC can force another player into a scene like that however. I'm not sure if I dare playing scenes in parallel, might end up with me having to write ungodly long posts. So we'll see about the pacing. I need to write down a seeting chart somewhere. List all side characters. And frame the first scene. I won't have time to do all that today. But I might be able to finalize it tomorrow. I'm not sure if I should separate narration and discussion. Because when framing the scene I'm supposed to ask you questions. So I'm not sure if I should do that in the rp thread and you answer then here. Or I make two posts when I do framing. One here and one in the rp thread. What do you guys think is best?
  7. I already made one. Just forgot to link it.
  8. I'm gonna have to compile a cast later. I forgot, I'm supposed to refer to the characters directly. Selene, your parents separated recently. Which one are you staying with? Why did they divorce? Dylan, did you ever go to school. How do people know about you? Velvet, towards the end of the year, someone a grade below you asked you on a date. Who was it? And what did you answer? Should we get a name and identity for Robin's coworker maybe. And get an agreement for what ages people are okay with rp-ing with.
  9. Post your characters here. Make sure to keep them updated.
  10. I think that's about as many main characters I could realisticly manage at once. I think Velvet has one move too many moves. Being under Mr. Ascar's care, what is the rumoured relationship between Velvet and her caretaker? Selene passes Playland every day on her way from her work. What place does she stop at every day and why?
  11. Part of the setup is to make more distinct characters. Character creation is 1, create the playbook, to discuss them. I have a bunch of questions I should ask. What places does Dylan frequent? Who there has a crush on him? What is the current argument between Robin and her cousin? Why doesn't Robin tell her boss that her coworker has been stealing cash from the stall? And so on.
  12. It's also worth mentioning we could run a setting where everyone are literal monsters. So drama comes from people putting you into boxes depending on what kind of monster and you have to decide whether you choose to follow your nature or become something different. A premise for another time.
  13. Yup, people do not think these supernatural things exist. Furthermore, normal people are not aware that Potter's Neck is in a perpetual summer. Your characters may or may not know, the infernal could even have caused it by accident. So part of tension is created by you having to hide your ugly side from the public, both literal and figuratively.
  14. To add a bit in regards to the story elements of your character. There are suggestions for names, look, eyes, and origin, which fits the concept of an infernal. You can pick from those or write your own. The others have done a really good job at expanding on these sections, you're welcime to the same. Check out the small towns document, we're playing the summer folk setting, and it has a suggestion for an infernal character. All the main characters hang out at Playland. Think of where in Playland your character likes to hang out. As an infernal you got a special friend, a dark power. They need a name, and some details.
  15. I'll probably make a second thread for characters, mostly so I can quickly reference harm, conditions, strings, and advancements. Also could be a good place to keep track of side characters. But it's a good idea to have talked a bit about our characters before we post complete playbooks.
  16. We could leave gender in limbo until pants come off. Playland is the main scene for our story. Imagine everything that might be on one of the seaside fairs, where does Dylan normally hang out?
  17. https://buriedwithoutceremony.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/monsterhearts-2-small-towns1.pdf Found the link.
  18. For someone wanting to play I'd look through the skins and moves first of all. It's really all you need to know to wrap your head around how the game is supposed to work. Other than that the game is supposed to work like a conversation. So I'm not sure if we want to mix narration and conversation, because you're encourage to ask eachother questions and collaborate on actually making the story. We'll see. We can at least do the setup here. Which consists of creating characters, figure out how you relate to eachother and the rest of Potter's Neck. I'll see if I can find the link to the small town's document, but the initial details of the town is written there if you need inspiration.
  19. You have my permission to post your copy of the rules. Not sure if that's allowed by the site. It's a good idea for people to read through it before they decide to join
  20. Okay, we'll do the summer folk setting. We'll modify it to fit your characters, but feel free to borrow the suggested skins from the book. Potter's neck is popular vacation spot, with beaches, nice hiking trails, and a massive funfair. Though it was only succesful during summer, come autumn and the bustle instantly stopped. Though summer day, the season just stopped changing. It has been summer now for ages, and no one seems to notice. People still talk about returning to school in the autumn, or heading home after their vacation, but it never happens. The fun fair, playland is the central gathering spot for youth. So each of you need a cannection to it.
  21. 2e. Because that's the one I read through. Let's stay with the basic ones until I get a better feel for the game. And we can leave those for later seasons.
  22. I have the list of premade towns so we can use one of those. I think I like the last option, the little island the most. I'll do a thourough rear through all of them. Playing an adult is not an option. I think that would be a dynamic that is difficult to manage. Playing the vampire is all about being cold, manipulative and attractive. When you're pushed to your darkest self you stop seeing people as people and rather as playthings you can use for your own desires.
  23. Do we steal a small town from the example or do we go through the effort to make our own?
  24. I think all the skins are cool. That one does require you to cooperate with someone else in character creation
