  1. "To be honest, I can't really imagine a reality when I'm a girl. But, wouldn't interdimensional travel be dangerous? There would probably have to be a lot of measures put into mind, like not distorting the different realities or something," Zero said.
  2. "Infinite realities. Which means there might be a reality where all our pasts, presents, and futures are totally different. Must be nice. Maybe in another reality, I wouldn't have gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to the past," Zero said, mumbling the last part mostly to himself.
  3. "Interdimensional travel?" Zero asked, a bit confused. While he understood the concept of other worlds and parallel worlds, it was the first he had heard of interdimensional travel. At some point, he did hear of a document by a Mr. L that talked about a transdimensional world link by some futuristic superpower, but he wasn't sure of the specifics.
  4. "Huh? Oh, sorry, it's just...whenever I hear of scientists, I think about my past, you know? Because of the you know what." Zero replied.
  5. Zero stopped reading through the comic when he heard about the scientist. Thinking about it reminded him of things he didn't want to remember, but he tried to keep those thoughts and feelings to himself.
  6. "I knew someone who could make wings and fly using those and someone who didn't need any special powers to fly..." Zero trailed off, trying not to think too much about either of the people he mentioned.
  7. "To the villains, it didn't really matter why. They did whatever they wanted and took whoever they wanted. As for the main character, he can make a shield, fire energy shots, and later on, he can even fly," Zero replied.
  8. "Well, it all starts off when a meteor strikes in a small town and the local police go to investigate," Zero began, going on and on about a normal boy who's sister was taken away by the villains and thanks to a chance encounter, he gained magical abilities that he could use to fight them.
  9. "I see," Zero quietly said, mostly to himself. He knew that he would probably never get the real answer, and while he was fine with it, the thought did make him curious on occasion.
  10. "A portal between negative and positive numbers?" Zero questioned.
  11. "To be honest, I don't know why my parents named me the way they did. For a while, I thought my name represented emptiness, like the number zero. But someone told me that zero may represent emptiness, but it also has limitless possibilities," Zero replied.
  12. Zero looked away from Nadia for a moment, the grip on the comic book tightening. "When I lost the title of hero, I realized something. The public cares too much about superficial things like looks or personality. You do one thing the public doesn't agree with and you're finished. You'll never truly have their trust again, even if you do some big heroic deed afterward. But here, in this story, being a hero isn't about whether or not someone supports you. Captain Nova had no support to start with, and he kept doing what he did best because it was his choice. He wanted to be a hero, regardless of what people thought of him. Even after I lost that title, I kept fighting, even if my name wouldn't go down in history," Zero said.
  13. "I'll try not to. I mean, I know it's a bit embarrassing that it was a comic book that made me want to be a hero, but..." Zero trailed off as he flipped to the first page.
  14. Zero blushed a bit when Nadia hugged his arm. "S-sure. We should start with the beginning, where Captain Nova was just a normal guy," Zero replied, looking through the stack of comic books and eventually pulling out the first volume.
  15. "To be honest, I wasn't expecting to find these here. They even have the volumes I never had the chance to read before. I always thought the Captain Nova comics were cancelled once things got serious back where I came from, but it looks like he managed to finish the series," Zero replied.
  16. After taking a while to search around, Zero eventually returned to the table Nadia and Red were sitting at. He had a stack of comic books he had found along with a few books about curses in hopes it would help him. As he set the books down and sat down next to Nadia, he noticed the new guy. "Who's this guy?" he asked.
  17. Once Nadia was gone, Zero pulled the book back out of the shelf and let out a sigh. "I guess it is true. You can't escape your past, even if you didn't remember most of it for a long time," Zero said to himself. Deep down, he wanted to destroy the book as a type of "destroying his past" kind of deal, but he also knew the book was the library's property, wherever they somehow managed to get a copy. Zero had figured since people from various worlds gathered in this place, the people running the show had to be able to get material from those worlds as well. "Even so, I've already accepted my parents were terrible people. So...why does my past keep coming to haunt me like this?" Zero said to himself. For the moment, he tried to push the thought out of his mind and put the book back, but as he walked away, he couldn't help but occasionally glance in the direction of where he found it.
  18. Zero hesitated for a moment, but went straight to his default of making up a lie even though he knew he could trust Nadia. "Nothing yet. I was hoping to find something I thought might be here, but I haven't found it yet," Zero replied.
  19. Zero spent a few moments staring at the book in his hand in silence, but when he heard Nadia's voice, he quickly shoved the book back where he found it and tried to act like nothing was wrong. "Huh? Sorry, what were you talking about?" he asked.
  20. As Zero wandered around, looking at the various bookshelves for something that interested him, he stopped suddenly when he spotted the familiar spine of a book. When he pulled the book from it's shelf, he had regret it right away. 'Yeah, when we were looking inside, I found this in your folks' study. I never pegged them for the type to use black magic like this, though,' Zero remembered a conversation he had with someone in the past. The book in his hand was a black magic tome that contained spells capable of altering, rewriting, and even completely blocking someone's memories. His own parents had once used their own copy of the very same book to block off Zero's memories of his past, leaving him a blank slate while they spent five years training him in combat. Zero let out a quiet laugh. "This is just a cruel joke, isn't it?" Zero quietly said to himself.
  21. "Oh, alright. I hope you enjoy your reading," Zero said, wandering off on his own to hopefully find something to read that would interest him.
  22. "For now, she says. Feels like she's going to try seducing me when my guard's down or something. It doesn't help that she's..." Zero trailed off and turned his attention to Red, who he noticed was blushing. "I'm sorry about that. It's...a bit of a long story." he said.
  23. Zero blushed and suddenly turned his head to Nadia. "It hasn't been that long since earlier and now you're already thinking of a three way? Sometimes I wonder if you're always thinking about things like that, Nadia," Zero whispered back.
  24. Zero let out a sigh of relief. "Well, I guess that's lucky. Having connections really helps sometimes," Zero said.
  25. "That's quite a variety of powers you have there. Wait a second, if you have telepathy, that means..." Zero trailed off, slowly turning to face Nadia. 'She can read minds. Oh great, this can only end badly...' Zero thought.
