Oooh. I like that! Let's do that one. A good string and a hook for more investigation!
-
Oooh, I like that idea! Which would you rather it be? Or both, if you want her to have both strings (although I wouldn't mind giving someone else an opportunity to snag a string).
-
I wouldn't mind taking one! Any specifics behind Selene having said string? Like, how she might have acquired it?
-
I think the only thing you got incorrect was that Selene received strings from Dylan. I believe he has strings on her from watching her.
-
I think most of the time running scenes in parallel might be fine, depending on your comfort level of course, but when it comes to more extensive things (like if there is a scene that might otherwise take too long, like a sex scene for instance if people wanted to play that out) maybe people could bring it to another thread so that it doesn't bog things down? But I also suppose if you run things parallel then something like that wouldn't require your full attention, and you would be able to focus elsewhere. Unless you were running one of the characters involved. I think keeping discussions here should be fine. @DreamsnThings did suggest using spoiler tags in posts, which I think is good for answering certain OOC things (like what move you're trying to use in the moment and dice roll results), but it might take up a bit more room than is necessary if it is a full conversation spanning multiple posts. Speaking of rolling, how are we going to do that? A sympathetic token is a string that is particular to the Witch skin. It's an important item belonging to someone that she takes from them. Selene is a bit of a kleptomaniac focused around attaining these sorts of things (definitely only to help people and definitely not because she is a kleptomaniac and secretly might enjoy it a little bit, totally not that). I believe we did decide on Selene taking a notebook that belonged to Velvet as one of her Sympathetic Tokens. Speaking of which I miscounted, Selene has both Sympathetic Token slots filled, she is actually done. It's more whether she has strings on anyone else now (or if they have any on her). Selene really likes to help people (especially because it might land her friends, which is something she is a bit desparate to do), so I wouldn't see it as unreasonable that she might have found Velvet in a state where she was trying to wrestle control away from Mr. Ascars, and perhaps she misinterpreted it as something else and summoned up the courage to approach and lend a friendly shoulder and someone to listen to her problems?
-
I like that! Sure! That should be all of Selene's stuff finished then, provided nobody plans on handing out strings to her or taking strings on her!
-
Depending on how you plan on handing out strings, I wouldn't mind taking one, would maybe just need to figure out what it is I think? You have three to hand out to people, and/or to your mysterious Mr. Ascars. Also you get a string on somebody who thinks they can save you. I believe you were going with Robin for that one? Selene still has one sympathetic token to snatch from someone. If nobody wants that then I might have her take one from an NPC. Robin has a string on Selene because she caught her pilfering through Celeste's things.
-
I think that'd be fair, personally.
-
Right, I did think of a question to ask before the game starts. Each of us has a Sex Move. Some of them only require you to lay naked with another, which is pretty simple enough to understand. For the ones that say you have to have sex, what will we classify as having sex for meeting those requirements? Is something like giving or receiving oral enough to count? Or does it need to be full penetrative? Figured it'd be good to establish this beforehand so it is answered before it can come up, given the sort of game this is and the site it is on (I imagine things may become quite lewd).
-
I like this idea! We'll go with that then. I like the idea that Selene is in Charlotte's grade as well, gives another way to interconnect things. Robin gets a string on Selene for her kleptomatic ways. Sounds good! How much you want to detail about it is up to you, I don't mind fleshing out the details or keeping it mysterious and something to maybe figure out in the game (if you wanted more time to think about it), although since it does classify as a book I feel Selene will have tried to read it. Either way I'll put Velvet's notebook down as a token!
-
If you think Selene might have been able to pilfer something then I'd be open to having her have one! Speaking of which, did anyone wish to have caught Selene rumaging through their friend's things, although kept it quiet (giving them a string on her)? And would anyone wish to have had something of their's pilfered by Selene in the past, and if so what might have been taken (I can take a string from two people for that)?

Monsterhearts: The Summer Folk character Repository
Chiyako replied to roll to seduce's topic in TTRPG Club's Discussion
The Witch - Selene Lefaye Harm: 1 / 4 Experience: 4 / 5 Look/Eyes/Origin: A lithe girl with deep amethyst eyes, Selene is a girl often concerned about her appearances, if only because she believes they might be part of why people don't want to be friends with her. Part of it stems from her being shorter than others her age, and less developed in ways which make her self-conscious. However because putting too much work into her appearances would get in the way of other things she enjoys (mostly reading), she prefers to take shortcuts to make herself appear older (primarily through the use of bras and tops which make her appear more pronounced, and shoes or boots with either heels, lifts, or the like). While she does own a proper witch's hat she tends not to wear it in public, instead only doing so during rituals. Out in public she prefers to wear skirts with a much beloved wide sleeved black coat, often matching it with similar darker shades, and various purple hues. She also enjoys wearing frilly things (most of her undergarments include frills or lace), dresses, and lighter silken outfits, including those which may be a slight bit translucent (sundress weather is some of the best weather). An avid reader and native to Potter's Neck, Selene would have started her first year at college as a freshman were it not for the unusually long summer. Considered somewhat weird and an outcast in middle and high school (perhaps because things often went missing around her, or perhaps because she always has her face buried in a book, or perhaps because she is socially a bit awkward and sometimes tries a bit too hard to be people's friend) she had been hoping to make new friends with a fresh start in her college life. Hoping to gain at least some credibility as someone who isn't weird, and perhaps some friends, Selene applied for and managed to attain a job at the Baja Surf Stylings shop despite having the grades for a full ride scholarship, only to then discover that it actually wasn't a very cool place to work. When things aren't busy she often occupies herself with reading books, one of her favorite past times beyond taking long walks across the pale-sanded beaches. Her home is pretty typical, albeit recently quiet with her parents away on vacation. Selene enjoys structure and tends to keep to a set schedule, some parts of which are planned out months or even years in advance (although these parts often relate to her occult rituals). While she wants to appear normal enough to attain some friends Selene cannot help but to occasionally pilfer things that belong to other people when the opportunity presents itself. Part of this stems from her belief that it is important to do so as attainting said items helps her to protect other people (even if they don't want or don't need said protection). The part she doesn't want to admit to herself is that said items make her feel like she is closer to them (and would provide her the opportunity to at least spy on them, to confirm to herself that she is closer to them). She might also have slight kleptomaniac tendencies (something she definitely would never admit to, and something which has perhaps been developed through her study of the occult). Recently her parents ended up separating. Selene stays with her father, mostly because he won the case against her mother and she has grown used to her childhood home. She still loves them both, although her mother is always worried about her. Her father says they separated because her mother blames him for something he isn't guilty of. Her mother says they separated because her father was acting inappropriately, although she didn't go much more into it. She still has a good relationship with both, especially her father who often spoils her, and while it does sadden her that they separated she doesn't typically show it, finding solace in her books and secret occult studies. After a long walk along the sandy beaches Selene generally makes a habit of stopping by one specific concession stand within Playland. She always asks for a corndog with mustard and, if they have it, honey (they never do). Also a free cup of water. Backstory: You start the game with two Sympathetic Tokens. Decide whose and what they are. One of the others caught you rummaging through their friend’s stuff, but hasn’t said anything. They get a String on you. Hot +1 Cold -1 Volatile -1 Dark +2 Moves: Sympathetic Tokens You gain power from Sympathetic Tokens - items of personal significance taken from others. Sympathetic Tokens count as Strings. Hex-Casting You can cast Hexes. Choose two that you know. To cast them, either expend a Sympathetic Token during a secret ritual, or meet the target’s gaze and chant at them in tongues. Then roll with Dark. On a 10 up, the Hex works, and can easily be reversed. On a 7-9, it works but choose one: The casting does you 1 Harm; The Hex has weird side effects; Trigger your Darkest Self. Hexes: Binding The person cannot physically harm others. Watching You enter a deep sleep, and begin to see the world through the eyes of the hexed. You can feel their reactions to and impressions of what they are seeing. Darkest Self: The time for subtlety and patience is over. You’re too powerful to put up with their garbage any longer. You hex anyone who slights you. All of your hexes have unexpected side effects, and are more effective than you are comfortable with. To escape your Darkest Self, you must offer peace to the one you have hurt the most. Sex Move: After sex, you can take a Sympathetic Token from them. They know about it, and it’s cool. Strings: Dylan - I think he might actually be a little interested in me! Oh gosh! This is a big revelation! Right? Velvet - While performing the Watching Hex upon Velvet a spooky, scary voice spoke to me in my mind! I think. It felt like something ominous was speaking, at least. Chastising me for poking my head where it doesn't belong. And then it ended. Really spooky. Is there something more to her? Sympathetic Tokens: Dylan - From Dylan I acquired a photograph! On it appears to be a mother holding their young child. While she smiles at the child the child has turned their head, making their face a bit too blurry to recognize (not that I would recognize a baby, right?)! Maybe it is him? Or her? What is Dylan anyway? Velvet - I managed to procure their notebook! It appears to have some sort of escape plan written within. It feels esoteric and odd, and seems to focus a lot on protecting one's mind. A little weird but I like weird! Selene Lefaye -
Selene stays with her father, mostly because he won the case against her mother. As for rping with Robin's coworker, I'm cool with that. I'm fine with rping with whatever ages, provided they fit.

I'd say Selene orders a corndog with mustard. She always asks if they have honey as well, even though she is always told that they don't. And a free cup of water. As for her Sympathetic Tokens, I haven't figured that out myself yet, or who might have seen her taking something (which is part of why she is an outcast I suppose, she takes things both to try and get closer to people and because she thinks it is important that she has them to help people, even without their permission and even if they don't actually need any help). If anyone wants her to have taken something I'm all ears!
-
I am probably going to add a bit more to Selene's sheet (some descriptor stuff, maybe some more personality/background stuff), but I think Selene probably likes things to be more orderly. She has a set schedule in mind, including her walks out onto and along the beach. I think maybe on the way home she often stops by @WickedCadrach's stand for a corndog (because they are tasty), enough that she knows the order by heart, if nobody else has taken that one yet.

If you'd like you can just copy what one of us has done for our character posts. Base it off the skin you choose. That tells you what to choose from. As far as the backstory part goes that's more a discussion we all have with one another to decide who fits best for what. So for Infernal: You choose between one of the two stat lines (-1 Hot / -1 Cold / +2 Volatile / +1 Dark //OR// +1 Hot / -1 Cold / -1 Volatile / +2 Dark). You start with Soul Debt and get to choose one more of your Infernal Moves. You start with two Bargains. Otherwise it's the normal stuff (name, maybe a lil background blurb about your character based off the setting that was posted). There are things you get, like your Sex Move. Then you have the Backstory part, which is the discussing with other players before the game starts part.

I did leave open Vampire for you since you seemed to express interest in it. If anything there are still a few spots open, and only three actual characters so far. Otherwise the other ones still open are: Fae, Ghost, Ghoul, Infernal, Queen, and Werewolf.
-
Excited to see everyone's characters!
-
I think that could be neat! Especially with having to also contend with the monsters and their existence.
-
Yep! That's fine!

If you'd like you might have seen Selene. She enjoys taking long lonely walks on the beaches.

Where do we intend to put character sheets? In here? Edit: Also I think I'm going to go with Witch.
-
I think I'm leaning Witch or Ghoul.
-
Are we intending to use Monsterhearts 1 or 2? Also if 2 are we allowed to use the extra ones described within the book (second skins)? Or the Chosen or Serpentine?
