As you well know, there are book smarts and street smarts. Just like how book smarts won't help you in every situation, or street smarts aren't always the answer, sometimes the book definition of a term doesn't do it proper justice. If you've read plenty of NTR then you should understand this. The literal definition of NTR doesn't quite match the actual content of it. And that therein, is naivete.
