I'll admit, this is a bit thrown out there. But I'm a big fan of throwing gaming systems into odd things! All characters 18+ and done in a university setting. 
Your character is /most likely/ being forced into this path with the unreasonable penalties for failure ushering them along. Some fun choices include straight-shooters like Ishimaru. I could also see exceptions for characters like Hinata who are really desperate for a talent or Leon who wants to rebrand his images. Not into femboys like Chihiro.
