Familiars were animals of Vern that were affected by the Blessing and became a supernatural version of themselves, with a new amplified body, 1 to 3 powers and human or slightly below intelligence.

This Animals could bond with a Gifted human that has close Blessing energy with them and once a link was made, the two would be inseparable. The way to form a link was done through time spent together. 
 

In very rare cases, a Monster can become a familiar, but the only way to create a bond with them is through sexual acts.
