Designation: N°741
Callsign: A.X.L. (Autonomous eXecution Liaison, a name the institute chose and he quietly finds ridiculous)
Civilian alias: Axl Graves
Appearance: Short and compact, long, unruly blond hair, indigo eyes that rarely blink. He wears a fur-collared black jacket over a fitted top and long tight pants.
Personality: Calm, exact, and emotionally remote. He speaks in short sentences and treats conversation like a briefing. Beneath the machine-like stillness is a burning curiosity about ordinary life, which he hides by treating it as "research."
Likes: Soft drinks (he keeps a tally of flavors he's tried), motorbikes, pre-AI-revolution music, privacy, and plans with no loose ends.
Dislikes: Public security officers, stim junkies, underpaying clients, and N°497
Skills: Lethal close-quarters combat, acrobatic infiltration, improvised weapons and patient, flawless operational planning.
Weaknesses: Struggles with spontaneous social situations. The stims leave him with occasional "static," brief moments where his thoughts go mechanical and cold, and he hides them. He has no idea who he would be without the institute.
Lore:
It is the year 3087. After the first Dyson sphere was built, AI became nearly indistinguishable from humans, and mankind found itself entangled in the most drastic technological advance ever seen.
Most countries had already dissolved, and cities were now ruled by corporations. These "corpos" built an empire of interconnected businesses. Soon they also dictated the law, deciding what was legal and what was not.
Such was the case with the Banner Institute, an apparently normal school for child prodigies that hid a dark secret. Behind it stood a secret organization known by the initials N.A.B.O.K. (Nano Assassins Born Only to Kill).
NABOK acquired newborn babies, no matter where or how, and raised them to be assassins. The children were given experimental stims that made them stronger and more intelligent, but also made them think almost like machines. In exchange, they stopped aging, as their overloaded cells were left in a state of perpetual regeneration. They were also stripped of their names (If they had any) and given numbers instead.
Once they "graduated," they received a callsign and a fabricated life. Axl's fabricated life came with android parents and an apartment in the lower levels. He shut the androids down within minutes of arriving, not out of cruelty, but because they were unplanned variables.
As a Nano Assassin, he takes contracts from corpo executives, mafia figures, and anyone with money and a solid reference. He works clean, using only his body, leaving no blood and no witnesses. Off the clock, he rides through the neon undercity at night, tries every food he was denied as a child, and records everything in handwritten journals, as if trying to convince himself he's a person.
