How does a group of reckless highschool/college stereotypes become a hot polycule?

A Jock, popular preppy, burnout/stoner, nerd, and alt/goth/emo are all forced into a living space by their school (boarding school or punishment dormitory), unexpectedly going from drama and being at each other's throats to a functional if still a little conflict heavy poly couple. Best part is everyone who looks at it can't figure out if it's a weird long triangle of cheating and arguments  or a cute open relationship

(Excising that bi curiosity and moving out of 1:1 rp comfort zones, be able to rp one or more characters and invite someone you'd think is interested. Space is limited to the roles and we can figure out who is who after showing interest, I also ask that there is more to your character than just their stereotype so get creative and in depth)
