Just starting this forum cause I've found a significant appreciation for older operating systems and felt like sharing it.

Namely this somewhat a rant but with some of the changes introduced in windows 11, unwanted ones mainly, such as Mandatory Bitlocker Encryption (Which has been prone to fail in the past commonly.), Recall + Copilot, and the constant race to accelerate their AI programs, it creates a great yearning for the past really. Looking back on older systems shows a clear divide in where Microsoft's interests were back then than they were now. Don't get me wrong, Microsoft still wasn't morally sound back then either, as looking at the DR-DOS incident with Windows 3.1 shows clear as day they were still heavily profit oriented, almost to malicious means. But back then it at least felt like they respected the buyers. I felt comfortable with the systems because they didn't have all this excessive stuff against my will, they had it as options, not requirements. You could buy different editions for different tools, and you weren't by default given a system with say...S mode like Win 11. All you did was buy the system, and you got the whole thing without restriction. But now it just feels, restraining really to use Windows now. It looks sleeker than ever but it all feels artificial, like a showcase game in a sense. Only meant to look pretty for the videos, while functionality's on the backburner.

And a side note, this is a 19 year old saying this. I wasn't even alive for stuff like Windows 3.1 or the early internet era. If a system displeases someone so bad that they have to look for solace in systems that outlive them so severely that they're not even in service anymore, that's a problem. But that's just me. Most others find solace in windows 10, which is...eh, but it's bearable, cause it still had choice, and it's not Vista/8. My personal favorite, if it was still in service, will always be Win 7. It felt just right in every regard.
