Hello!
-
“You’re welcome,” Miranda acknowledged the captain’s mouthed words with an airy laugh. “I’ll make sure to have a fresh pot brewed every morning,” she promised, flashing a warm smile. She assembled everything on the cart so that it was not only presentable and appealing but also flowed naturally with whatever someone wanted to eat. And then she faded into the background, the real meaning behind the not so endearing nickname given to her by her family. Dedd see pure all of her training and accomplishments she was actually the least accomplished person in the long succession of chefs in the Steele family. Not to mention that her personality was drastically different from the braggadocious and snobbish behaviors exhibited by her family. In comparison she was a lot quieter, still proud, but smaller in comparison. Or as her father said, she was unremarkable. Not a real chef at all. Hence, Mirage. But she’d flipped that dubious moniker on its head. Wearing the name as a badge of honor, cultivating this tale about a woman who was as mysterious and alluring as the dishes she made. She was always experimenting with spices and herbs from all sorts of places and she tended to flit about from place to place. Never staying long enough for the rest of the world to catch up. A true mirage. But here on the ship there wasn’t any place to run. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Green bean? Idly she wondered if she should be offended by the nickname but then again green beans were delicious and nutritious! On top of that they were good for soil. So maybe he was paying her a greater compliment than she thought! Chuckling she beamed up at the mechanic and led the way as he suggested, hips swaying as she moved. It didn’t take long for them to reach the recreation room and Ivy immediately brightened at the sight of food. “Oh look Lucky, sustenance!” She tugged on said man’s t-shirt, dragging him happily to the cart carrying the goods. “Oh, heya Captain, Miranda!” She waved again before losing herself in the choice of cereal and fruit. Once she made her selections she settled down, trying her best to focus on the meeting and not just think about whatever else she wanted to do that day. Luckily it seemed that the Captain was just giving them a pep talk in a sense. For Ivy, she was sneaking curious glances at the Luanari on board. She had minimal knowledge about them but she could only imagine what sort of plants and things may be native to their home planet. She wondered if she could corner the small pilot and ask her a few questions…

The Kitchen Scandal!
Harmony Frost replied to Mysthero's topic in Starfinder's Kitchen/Galley/Hydroponics
One thing about being so late in the rotation of shifts during this already five year long expedition is that you have to deal with all the crap left behind by the last guy. Clearly, whoever manned this kitchen before her was not nearly as meticulous and orderly as she was. True, her penchant for tidiness could border on OCD levels but her line of work demanded it. Cooking for a whole crew morning, noon and night required keeping things in order. So once the meeting had been dismissed, that’s immediately what Miranda started working on. Mopping, dusting, re-organizing, separating things and putting things back together, wiping things down, storing, emptying and of course writing everything down once she was done. Among her checklists, (which she was grateful for the handy digital pad she could dictate all of these things to) was a need to stop by the Hydroponic Gardens. The indoor hydroponic gardens produce fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs using nutrient-rich solutions and controlled environmental conditions, ensuring a sustainable source of organic produce. At least, it should, and Mirage wanted to check with Dr. Ivy to ensure all systems were “go” as it were. Aside from this she many other tasks and things to consider the least of which were: making sure the emergency ration packs were still safe and properly maintained, and keeping track of those handy Biometric Nutritional Analyzers: Biometric scanners capable of analyzing crew members’ nutritional needs and metabolic profiles in real-time, allowing for personalized dietary recommendations and monitoring of dietary trends. Although they really only worked half the time and never when you really needed them to. Needless to say by the time the day ended she was tired. “Once again Mirage, you overdid it,” she muttered to herself as she padded, barefoot to her bed. She had just showered and abandoned her work clothes for a soft, almost silk feeling camisole and cheeky, barely there matching shorts. But after a while in bed she found that she was almost afraid to go to sleep. Too scared that she’d slip into another five year slumber and miss out on all the excitement. It was a childish feeling, she knew, but she couldn’t help it. Maybe if she wasn’t so worried about being in the shadow of her great family name, she’d manage to relax. But for now, sleep evaded her. Sighing, she figured it wouldn’t hurt to cure her lack of sleep with some natural remedy. A light, herbal tea would do the trick. And that’s how she came upon what looked like the aftermath of one of those old baking shows in her kitchen. For a minute she just stood there, frozen between curiosity and irritation. Eventually the first won out and she slinked up beside her captain, placing a careful hand on a flexing bicep. “Hmmm, what are we making? Ahhh Tarte aux Pommes Normande,” she said with a slight accent, but softly. There was some humor in her voice but she didn’t want to tease too much as she could see his frustration. As evidenced by the failed attempts she spotted dashed into the waste bin. “May I?” She offered, “You’ve obviously got the technique down but you’re lacking finesse,” Miranda observed. “Less pressure,” she cooed, covering his fingers with her own, “you still want it to be somewhat crumbly. So don’t over mix.” She guided his hands, her body leaning into his. He could probably smell the almond and vanilla oils she rubbed into her skin after her shower. “Couldn’t sleep?” She guessed, “or were you just really craving this in the middle of the night?” -
I think it’s a great idea! A good way to have fun without feeling like it HAS to impact the overall story

@Chiyako Super excited to have you join! 🩷

Hmm, seems like the captain wants us to go casual instead of formal, Miranda thought to herself having got a short glimpse at the man in question just moments ago. She set aside her typical uniform for the moment, opting instead for the comfort of her more everyday clothes. Namely, a simple tank dress that had a v-shaped neckline and although it was form fitting the slits along the sides gave her a free range of motion. She paired it with a pair of comfy heeled boots and a waist apron that acted as a tool belt of sorts. Her hair had been blessedly easy enough to manage, falling in long inky black waves down her back and so she was among the first to be ready apart from the captain himself. Speaking of the captain, she smirked at the mention of coffee. Well if she had anything to do with it, they’d have at least that much. Helpful signs led her towards the kitchen and she quickly went to task with finding acceptable breakfast food and most importantly coffee for their meeting. Normally she’d rather do a full assessment and inventory of the kitchen but that would have to wait until later. However she figured there was no harm in some fresh brewed coffee, fruit, and cereal. She also found some pre-packaged items that you simply popped into a toaster so she’d bring them along as well. There was a handy cart that had its own hob and energy source so Miranda simply loaded everything up and wheeled it over to the rec room. She could imagine that small comforts like a hot cup of coffee or tea and something to eat went a long way after waking up from stasis. Not to mention it would help ease any tension caused by lack of socialization and possibly foggy memories here and there. Might alleviate certain anxiety and some stress too. ¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥ Jojoba, lye, glycerin, vitamin E, hmmm and perhaps some yuzu and lemons…. Ivy’s brain was busy determining what plants were needed to concoct better soaps for the bathrooms as she took one of the quickest showers. She was already practically dressed by the time the captain was addressing them concerning their first meeting. Did he say…coffee? Hmmmm coffee grounds were a natural exfoliant…. and again her mind whirred away with more combinations and cultivation requirements to carry out these grand plans of hers. She noticed that it was going to be a more natural start to the day’s work so she figured no one would bat an eye if she swapped out her uniform for a pair of overalls instead. Although her undershirt looked decidedly more cropped now that it wasn’t as hidden. Oh well, she preferred the less stuffy look anyways! When she was done changing she burst out into the hallway nearly careening directly into someone else. “Oh geez I’m sorry, I’ve been antsy since we all woke up! But I know I ought to watch where I’m going. I’m just eager for the meeting to finish so I can go off to my lab,” she finished with a nervous laugh, blushing as she looked up at the male crew mate. “I imagine you probably feel the same, right Lucky?” She smiled, proud to have remembered him from launch day. “Mind if we walk the rest of the way together?”

Has everyone cast their vote for our first challenge?
-
@Warning well having a voice is hardly necessary. I figure we’d all imagine whatever we want to regardless lol
-
Hmmmm it’s tough. I don’t always land on specific voices just vibes. But if u had to choose….Mirage sounds like the president from Kakegurui, or a bit like Sanaa Lathan. As for Dr. Ivy, I think if her sounding like a chipper, higher pitched sort of voice. Fast talking at times too. Hmmm, I can’t quite think of an exact character reference though.
-
@Warning Yeah I kinda messed it up but that should be the order for the most part going forward and yup it’s your turn!
-
Yes of course! Plus I imagine it’ll keep things cleaner and easier to follow as you stated!
-
Yeah my bad I forgot about Ivy for a split second! In the future I’ll post both POVs at the same time where applicable 🩷

Was it possible to dream of top soil and the trembling roots of the Wampanoag tree during cryo sleep? Ivy swears she can almost smell the fresh earth and feel the cool breeze on her face even as she woke from her slumber. Wait—was she, actually awake?! It seems the shock itself manifested in Ivy’s limbs and she jolted out of her cryo pod, squealing and falling to the floor with her legs splayed open. It was only then that she remembered that she was totally nude and another squeal erupted from her lips. She scrambled to her hands and knees, verdant curls tumbling over her shoulders as she searched for something to preserve her modesty. Blessedly she found the towel and robe left for her and she quickly donned it on, so distracted she nearly missed the computer commanding her to identify herself. ”Oh! Oh umm, it’s me! Dr. Ivy Bloom, Botanist for Shift Echo ready for duty!” She chirped, saluting enthusiastically to the screen and then blushing as she realized how unnecessary that was. Still nothing could dampen her enthusiasm at being awake. She practically skipped towards the showers, sighing disappointedly at the lack of fragrant soaps but vowing that would certainly be apart of the plants she’d cultivate if the opportunity arose. She washed quickly, readily dressing in the traditional uniform and grabbing her special gloves she used in her station. The temptation to disappear into the greenhouse and go exploring was great, but she knew they likely had a team meeting first and foremost to get things started.

As consciousness slowly returns, the individual experiences a disorienting haze, as if emerging from a dreamless void. Senses gradually reawaken, detecting the faint hum of machinery and the sterile chill of the cryo chamber. Muscles protest with stiffness, resisting movement after years of suspended animation. Eyes flutter open to a dimly lit chamber, adjusting to the stark contrast between the darkness of slumber and the harsh glow of artificial light. With each shallow breath, the mind struggles to piece together fragments of memory, struggling to differentiate between the distant past and the present reality. Gradually, the fog of cryo sleep begins to dissipate, unveiling a world transformed by the passage of time. For Miranda, it was also almost like a new birth. She’d joined this expedition for that very purpose, this was her opportunity to chart new territory as a chef. To challenge herself in ways that no other person in her family had done before. It was exciting! “Please Identify.” The cold command from the computer completely took Miranda out of her reverie and she frowned slightly, but just as quickly shook it off. “I’m Miranda Steele, Head Chef of Shift Echo, reporting,” she answered solemnly and it seemed that was enough to satisfy the computer. She found a towel and a robe beneath her pod and she stepped out of her cryo bed, bare feet on the cool tile. Idly she wondered how many people were up yet as she headed for the showers eager to get cleaned and dressed. Perhaps she could surprise the crew with a warm, tasty breakfast. Perfect for the first day after awakening!

I’d like to know what you want to do but I can understand the bias lol

Has anyone else voted yet? It’s hard to choose!

I believe he’s working on the history as well as potential events for us to discuss as a group and then we’ll be ready…..if I’m not mistaken.

Name: Dr. Ivy Bloom Age: 32 Occupation: Botanist Sexuality: Straight, but willing to explore Appearance: Dr. Ivy Bloom is a vision of quirky charm, with wild curls of vibrant green hair that seem to have a life of their own and bright emerald eyes that sparkle with childlike wonder. Her freckled cheeks are often adorned with smudges of soil and pollen, evidence of her boundless enthusiasm for her botanical pursuits. Standing at a petite height, she possesses a slender, yet curvy frame that moves with a lightness and grace reminiscent of a woodland sprite when she’s in her zone; however she is prone to be somewhat clumsy outside of her work environment. Personality: As a botanist with a passion for plants rivaled only by her obliviousness to her own charms, Dr. Bloom is a delightful contradiction of intellect and innocence. She possesses a boundless curiosity and insatiable thirst for knowledge, her mind constantly buzzing with new ideas and discoveries. Despite her brilliance, she remains blissfully unaware of the effect she has on those around her, her quirky charm and infectious enthusiasm drawing others to her like bees to honey. With her unorthodox methods and unconventional approach to botany, she injects a sense of whimsy and wonder into her work, transforming the sterile confines of the ship into a lush oasis of greenery and life. Though her obliviousness to her own charms may lead to some awkward encounters, her genuine passion for plants and infectious enthusiasm inspire those around her to see the beauty in the world around them. Though she may be unaware of her unwittingly seductive nature, Dr. Bloom’s quirky charm and boundless optimism make her a ray of sunshine in the darkest reaches of space, her presence bringing joy and laughter to all who have the pleasure of knowing her. As she continues on her botanical adventures, she remains ever optimistic that the wonders of the universe are just waiting to be discovered, one leaf at a time.

It might be helpful to simply follow Myst’s suggestions for a bio: Name: Age: Gender: Position: Sexuality: Physical description: Public Bio: This will be what is publically written in your ship dossier, meaning everyone has access to it. All shift crewmembers are given dossiers of their crewmates so what is written here will essentially be public knowledge. Where you grew up, how you did in school, military background ect. Private Bio: this is where you'd put things that would not be public information, but you may want potential rp partners to know about your character. Do they suffer from chronic nightmares? We're they arrested but had their records cleaned? Anything interesting.
-
Thanks, seems like we’ve got a decent crew to start with.
-
So what positions do we have so far?
-
I like the bio idea. And don’t stress about the updates @Mysthero. We all should have patience with each other as this will be a group effort. As for the topic sections, yeah I was gonna suggest doubling or tripling up on areas that way different occupations would have a place for their rps and it may make finding things easier.
