I enjoyed RIFTS in the beginning; I've got between 15-20 of the first sourcebooks on one of my bookshelves. But after C. J. Carella left Palladium I felt that the quality of the game was sharply declining and quit playing. Mage: the Awakening and Aberrant are probably my favorite WoD games, but I never found players for them. The Dresden Files is another fun game. The easy answer with FATE is to give each character a Stress Track that's just Sync (In addition to the regular Physical and Mental Stress tracks). At zero Stress, all is well. Acting against the interest of the mech (going into dangerous situations, inciting jealousy, etc) can build Stress and Consequences just like getting punched or intimidated can hit Physical and Mental Stress + Consequences. The issue with this idea is it might get tricky if one person is trying to juggle the loyalty of multiple mechs? Unless that's not something we're worried about. I think I have had an epiphany about where this went wrong. I asked too many questions. I have the PDF and played a game of Dread once where the host borrowed from BBB rather than teach us a new game. Unfortunately, I've never had the right group to play. The hardcover does look beautiful, but the digital version on DriveThruRPG isn't bad (and it's on discount right now). The guidance and play examples the book gives are haunting. My take is that the initial story and context is solid horror on its own, but as narrow as it sounds, it really gives space to explore so much more about being in an uncertain and dangerous situation where the power imbalance is staggering.
