I've read it and I'd like to play it, but I haven't yet. Two of my other groups played it and loved it. From reading it, it looks like Fabula Ultima is what D&D pretends to be: a dramatic, character-driven, high-stakes, over-the-top adventure game where story is the engine and combat is one expression of that story, not the whole point. D&D is ultimately a tactical miniatures combat system with roleplay strung between initiative rounds. Fabula Ultima, on the other hand, assumes that big melodrama is normal, that emotional motivations matter mechanically, that characters change as the story changes, and that over-the-top, cinemati4 points

I'm going to play around a bit to see if I can find a Red Jenny that I like. But I think I like these for my other 3 NPCs. (SFW. Spoiler tag to save space) 'Judge' Holland Buck Adelaide Montgomery Jane Montgomery4 points

I read it voraciously, but ultimately I'm still not a fan of class-based systems.2 points

You're walking along the street and you see that someone is stuck in a hole in the wall. It appears to be a pussy boy! You can't see their face but you can tell they have a sexy body. What will you do? -> Try to help them get out of the hole -> Call fire and rescue -> Take advantage of the situation1 point

I definitely found it much more approachable from a narrative perspective than so many of the games I grew up playing. All the old stuff was very simulationist - combat simulations, resource management, etc. The waves of games that turn telling a narrative into mechanical elements really hit my zone, even though I bounced hard off of them after decades of old style games under my belt.1 point

I personally am not a fan of classes too, but fabula ultima does stick out to me as a great middle ground, since really, you dont acquire classes you acquire specific perks of a class, so its closer to perk based systems like in fallout, despite there still being classes1 point

“I cannot speak for what happened at the convention. I was present for parts of it, but did not see the events in the hall.” Hikaru finally spoke up giving his impression of the parts of this he was aware of. “But I know demons. My family has fought them for many generations, I can not say with certainty what Shinigami is, but she is not a demon. Did not act like them.” There was one other key piece of evidence, that convinced him more than anything. “While at the temple, they prayed to Maxim, the Demi-god our temple is dedicated to, distant ancestor of us who live there. They hoped for his help. He gave them an audience. He unfortu1 point

I think Granite being a pretty standard Lion class makes sense. Patune feels big in the fiction, so maybe he's a Taurus. I don't think he actually walks upright though. His picture gives him a very ape-like appearance, so I think he knuckle-walks which kind of conceals his size a bit. Rolled for the new kid, and they're 12m.1 point

There are a fair amount of people in the club. Not many actually became active regrettably. I've got so many RP's going, if they all responded in a few days I'd be in trouble and buried in replies for at least a week. Luckily they have been sporadic, and I've more or less been able to keep up. If you think of a story you want to write feel free to let me know.1 point

I'm really out of the loop these days, and I get work scheduling (warehouse night owl here, especially with OT during Peak coming up) so my responses tend to be a little between. And I could start something, might take a day or two before I make an initial post, got get a minute for brainstorming. Don't think anyone I know on here are active, unfortunately.1 point

I think this is a case where the original number drifted because it was more dramatic for Scylla to be dwarfed by the opposition. If we want to nail something down, how does this look (I am completely open to tweaking any details here. Just wanted to get something down to start that would put Scylla at half-as-tall as the average Frame.) Hauberk Class / "skins" : <5 m - Essentially, a living suit of power armor made from a small kaiju with some specific ability or biology that makes it worth the effort. Limited advantages over conventional mech-frames. Extremely rare. Difficult to manufacture without killing the original creature.1 point

I already recruited/tried recruiting everyone I thought might be interested. Outside of some inactive members returning, like RenRen or the long inactive AirAllie (who helped inspire the club with a private RP the two of us had), I can’t do much more to help there but others are free to consider new people. But my stuff will hopefully pick up in activity again shortly. We will see what happens with Emiri, but still going to give a while to see if RenRen returns before considering other options on her. Gardsorm may join in too at some point, when he has more time to write again.1 point

You know, for some reason I've always found it fun. Making a character playing a role, making some excellent scenes. It' a little more than that here with ERP, just due to the intimate nature if it. Writing, fulfilling desires, or just having fun. Timing is always the tricky part. However there are some very talented and patient souls about.1 point

So I'd say if you want to be sneaky, sneaking around, being stealthy, and you could say that maybe while sneaking around you managed to grab something from Senator Dawkins' desk or out of a drawer in the Sheriff's office, that would be "Sneaky". If you want to be playing thee card monte, picking pockets, stealing watches, and generally behaving like the cast of Now You See Me, we'd probably want to add Sleight of Hand. I think the original designers were trying to keep the list short and didn't have as many high stakes poker games or sneaky spies in the Smallville show as we're likely to have in our game. The d12 SFX for Sneaky bit seems1 point

In the list Sneaky says: "SNEAKY: You’re fantastic at getting in and out without being seen, with equal parts hiding in shadows, moving without making a sound, and natural agility. You have it all in spades. Roll the Distinction’s die when you’re trying to remain hidden, quiet, or off the radar." I would think conman style sleight of hand might fit better under "FAST TALKER: You’ve lost track of the problems your mouth has caused over the years. But you’ve learned to use it to your advantage, and it’s now your first line of defense. Roll the Distinction’s die when bluffing or browbeating somebody, giving evasive answers, or oth1 point

Kaida tried to process the whole thing while Tenshi instead remained quiet, shifting her nervous gaze between all present. There was a lot to take it, now with that new perspective. She had heard of the events at the convention but only in details spoken by others. It was difficult to tell how dangerous this beast really was but if they tried to find a way for her to fit in then surely she was not the exact same that she was back at that event... Still... "So... This Shinigami came to the convention and you were made to follow her... And somehow, she is your friend now. If she really is not a demon, hoping that Reika did not go this far, I th1 point
