I work better when modifying existing concepts, or when I otherwise have some kind of baseline to go off of.

My particular style of "creativity" is frustrating when it comes to anything that isn't writing based, since taking someone else's art and touching it up is often seen as a bad thing, even if you don't say you're "fixing" it like some absolute goobers do.

... So, for the most part, I tend to result to using AI to generate a baseline that I can work on.

Take, for example, this "YCH" piece I did some time ago, as a proof of concept more than anything.

Well, this YCH piece was based on an image generated by ChatGPT.

You may have seen that I temporarily had a character page for it, which got removed. On that note, I'd like to formally apologize to the staff who had to deal with this. I understand that it was a minor infraction, and likely wouldn't have taken very long to truly deal with, but I still feel bad for not reading the rules better and asking for clarity before pressing the button to submit it to the site.

Regardless, this is one of the reasons why I still personally advocate for AI art despite it certainly being a plight to the art community as a whole. I can totally understand why the current practices are awful, as they really are just stealing art from artists around the globe to mash together, and that is never really a good thing - but, without AI art, and without artists who are okay with their art being used as a baseline without also being paid for the sample first (looking at you, DeviantArt), it's the only avenue I really have to express myself creatively without hindrance.

I get that this board is more for creative posts and less for discussion, so I would understand if this topic were to get moved to the random chit-chat board, but I do still want to ask; what do people think about this? Are my woes "justifiable" by any means? Am I just washed up? Let me know! 😂
