  1. varicose veins (silly memory - when I was a kid and I asked my mom why my great uncle had all those curvy veins on his leg she said he had "varicose veins", which I heard as "very close veins" and interpreted to mean "veins that are very close to the surface of the skin", so it made sense to me then.)

  3. How Prizes Are Paid effective 20 Nov 2023 Prize Availability There has to be at least 1 entries per prize tier to unlock the prize tier. That is to say, if there is only 1 entry, only the prize for 1st place is available. The amounts for 2nd and 3rd place will return to the pot. If there are 2 entries, the prizes for 1st and 2nd place will be available, but the third place prize will return to the pot. There must be at least 3 entries for all 3 prizes to be available. Prize Eligibility Prizes are awarded based on number of votes. If an entry doesn't get any votes, it is not eligible for a prize. If there are 10 entries but only 2 of them receive votes, only those two will receive prizes. Ties In the case of a tie, the tied entries split the total value of the prizes awarded for all the tied places. For example, if 2nd place in a contest pays $1,000 and 3rd place pays $500, the total prizes are $1,500, so the two users who are tied for 2nd would each get $750 and there would be no prize for 3rd place. We always do our best to split the prize evenly between the tied users, awarding the total value of the prizes.
  4. I'm currently playing in my friend's D&D 5e game and playing a solo RPG called Apothecaria which is quite engaging. I'm running a Cortex Prime multiverse style game in a homemade setting I've been running since the 90's. This is the third iteration of the multiverse, and I'm able to bring some of the previous characters back as NPCs and every now and again with a guest player coming back for a couple sessions to reprise their character from a previous version of the multiverse. It's a lot of fun. I'm also running a (planned) 5-shot that just started yesterday. It's a sci-fi/fantasy heist/rescue adventure using Cortex set in a future world based on fairy tales, folklore, and urban legends. Each of the PCs is a version of a character from a fairy tale or folklore who were called together to perform a job - steal Christmas back from the evil forces who've corrupted it. I've built in almost every Christmas folklore character I could find as potential allies or enemies - the reindeer, Yule Lads, Belsnickel, Mari Lwyd, the Kallikantzaroi, and Père Fouettard, among others, as well as any frozen/ice creatures that sounded promising because I had to get yeti in there somewhere. Santa is Ded Moroz, and the PCs are playing Snegurochka (Ded Moroz's granddaughter, the ice maiden, who brought the group together to rescue her grandfather) Krampus (her boyfriend, who is only along to prove to Moroz that he should be part of Christmas) The Big Bad Wolf (an old pal of Krampus' who was brought in for his guile and ferocious fighting skills) Red Riding Hood (the Wolf's lover, and the last survivor of an order of warrior priestess' known for their beauty, fighting skills, and their hooded red cloaks) Anansi, the spider trickster that no one remembers inviting. I'm still trying to decide if there's a big bad who actually stole Christmas or if it's all a setup and Santa faked them out for some reason. I usually wait for one of my paranoid players to come up with some weird reason why it would be a setup and then riff off of that if they lean hard into it. I'm a very improv GM, so the final story usually isn't finalized until a session before or maybe right there at the table. I prepare a few endings, and then let the players guide me toward the one that seems most satisfying for them.
  5. I had two, wanted to add a third, deleted it, but left the refence to it. Curse my ADHD brain.

  8. Winners of challenge 25 have been posted! @SataiRolePlayingGuy wins the last of the 3 Halloween challenges! A new challenge will be posted soon. There will be two choices of topic - either write about colonists meeting the indigenous people in the land their colonizing (or anything around the theme of colonialism) OR write something where the first sentence starts with the words "I'm thankful for" That's a heads up for anyone reading. I'll get the challenge up soon. I'll hopefully also get 2 holiday challenges up - 1 the first couple weeks of Dec, one that will probably run through the end of the month.
  9. Thank you for the suggestion.
  10. Honestly, it doesn't matter what he's talking about, because managing that is not what I signed up for when I started this group. I'm not going to send messages to all members.
  11. Whether or not it's forbidden, I'm not going to do that.
  12. I could barely get people to participate in a 3-part Halloween challenge.
  13. We could do a Thanksgiving themed writing challenge, but that's only a US holiday. We could do a story of colonists meeting indigenous peoples. I think I might do that now that I wrote it down. Either that or "what are you thankful for" through the eyes of your character. I had a thought. What if I started a second writing series. Instead of an "anything goes" series of challenges, this one would focus on developing a character you intend to use for a long term roleplay, story, or series of roleplays... Someone you want to make seem real and delve into their psyche, really get to know them, perhaps even in situations in which you might not normally write them. Every week or two I'd post a new prompt, no deadlines, write to them if/whenever you want. It would just be prompts to help dig into your character, write scenes from their backstory, internal monologues, conversations with strangers on a bus, etc. Just things to help you see your character more fully perhaps out of the normal setting or story in which you write them. Ideas might include things like: Write a scene describing your character getting dressed. Where are they? Why did they choose these specific clothes? Are there any special items they're wearing? Write what your character thinks they see when they see their reflection. Write a scene about your character in costume. What are they wearing, and why? How do they feel about it? Write your character’s bedtime ritual. Does your character want kids now or in the future? Why or why not? Write your character’s LinkedIn profile. Come up with your character’s regular take-out order. What is your character’s favorite season and why? I dunno. Just an idea.

  15. We can do themed challenges. I'm less inclined to do another quick challenge series. I'll probably stick with 1 challenge every 2 weeks, maybe break the biweekly cycle to fit in a special themed challenge for a holiday or event. If we had a huge group of participants I'd have a new challenge every week that would last for 2 weeks with a week for voting after the challenge. But that's me. I used to write on several sites and participated in at least 3 or 4 challenges every week. But I was also in my writing zone then and doing pretty well in the competitions, so I was getting a lot of positive reinforcement to keep me going. I don't think anyone here would ever participate that much, and we don't have enough people writing to go every week.
  16. Does anyone want to take over this club?
  17. Did you see that old hag in there, too?
  18. Marry and cuddle and hold hands... then have some more of those long nights.
  19. Guilty. A raging gangbang sounds absolutely horrifying in real life, but amazing in the erp fantasy world. The next person would star in a porno for the right price.
