That Time I Punched A Client Of The Company And Ended Up Dating A Beautiful Mother And Daughter [Minibit & MH Hati]

Recommended Posts

Tearju's life was definitely not one to be jealous off. Where to start? Absolutely the divorce proceedings, which cost her the house, causing her to move into an apartment complex. She was of course happy that it was spacious and had enough space for both her and her daughter, but it didn't replace the memories and friends she had nearby. Moving afterwards was problematic, most things ended in a storage unit, and to top it all off, just yesterday she was attacked by a drunk molester. Though... Maybe the term was a bit harsh. Surely it was just the alcohol, but the whole thing was frightening nonetheless.

The next day, she was finally allowed some time to calm down and settle in. And even better. She had a good look on the street from her apartment door, and saw the man who saved her just yesterday. And she knew where he was headed, since she saw him enter the apartment just next to hers. A young Mr. Miller. By the time he arrived at his door, Tearju already waited there, holding a little cardboard package. "Mr. Miller, right?" Despite her respectable size for a woman, her voice was rather timid. Calming too, however, and easy on the ears. She held the small package to him, and judging by the smell, there was food in it. Warm food even, and most likely wrapped in paper considering the cardboard looked fine. "I know it's not much, but thank you for yesterday. To think I would catch you on your day off." After all, it was midday in the middle of the week. Why else would he not be at work?

Name: Tearju Conwell
Age: 36
Background: Tearju was raised with the belief that people who worked hard, earned much in the end and have fewer problems to face. And it paid off. She studied hard, married young, gave birth to a beautiful daughter, and earned herself a high-paying job. One stab in her ideal little world however was her husband, whom she does not remember fondly and has cut all contact with. Her life currently could be a lot better, but she enjoys a rare perk of having a slightly awkward, but still very loving relationship with her daughter. However. Tearju is not a perfectly pure maiden. While she wouldn't trade her time with Yami for anything, she can't deny that she is quite lonely. But she lacks the will to make selfish demands, resulting in her keeping her desires to herself. Compared to Yami, she is the one who should be more worried about her browsing history.

Name: Yami Conwell
Age: 17
Background: Yami's childhood was a mixed bag. On one hand, she got nothing but love and affection from her mother. But as for her father, she won't speak of him at all unless she deems it necessary. Regardless of this however, she had almost anything she could have wanted in her early years. Most important of which is a proper education, which she currently pursues to follow her mother's footsteps and becoming a Data Analyst. But behind the calm face is a lot of frustration. Not at the people around her, but at herself for her inability to socialize with her peers properly. She is a lot more mature than someone her age should be, often sounding like an adult at least double her age, which usually weirds people out. She would actually mean well, but criticism is what people tend to hear instead. Hence, she stays quiet most of the time. The only one she connects with is her mother, allowing her to speak freely around at least one person, which she cherishes more than people would expect.

Today Mark Miller found out that doing the right thing doesn’t always work out for you. Last night he’d punched some drunk sleaze bag who’d been harassing a lady in the street in front of his apartment building. After being called into his manager’s office this morning, he found out that middle-aged pervert he’d given a black eye had in fact been a pretty big client for their firm. Somehow he’d recognized Mark from a visit to the firm and filed a complaint against him, though he had apparently been a bit wishy-washy about the details, so in the end, Mark had to count himself lucky that he hadn’t been outright fired and only put on some unpaid leave for a while. Oh well, it’s not like he hadn’t saved up some money and maybe he could get some proper sleep for a while.

After picking up some groceries from the small supermarket on the corner near his apartment after being sent home straight out of the dreadful meeting, he loosened his tie a bit and undid the top button as he climbed the staircase to his floor. However, he was surprised to find the woman he’d saved last night standing at his front door. “Yes, and you were… Miss Conwell, right?” he responded with a nod and a friendly smile. He’d noted the lack of a ring on her finger, so he erred on the side of caution and didn’t just call her a missus.

“Oh, food? It’s quite warm… Thanks!” While his smile before was a bit strained, it now looked more genuine and happy. He could make out a faint aroma coming from the container. Not sure what it was, but it smelled tasty. Laughing softly but sheepishly at her comment about catching him on his day off, he responded, admitting, “Well, you could this the first of several days off for me, hehe… Turns out the guy who was bothering you last night is a client for my company.” He went on to explain that he’d been put on unpaid leave for a while but assured her several times that this wasn’t her fault and that he’d be fine.

“Ah, I take it you live close by? Would you like to come in for a drink and maybe we can share some of this delightful food you’ve made together? It’s always more enjoyable to share a meal, don’t you think?” Mark suggested in a casual but chipper manner, seemingly having forgotten his work woes already. No point dwelling on them, after all, and especially when he was in the company of a slightly older but drop-dead gorgeous lady like Claire.

Name: Mark Miller

Age: 25

Background: Mark can’t say he’s had a particularly exceptional life so far. He grew up in a fairly small town made up mostly of farms and small agricultural and food-related businesses, but moved to the big city after graduating from grade school. Though he was in the track-and-field club in middle and high school, he was not so talented and driven to try and make a career out of it. Instead, he took his parents’ advice and got into finance, taking up a college course in accountancy and finance. Now he works as a salaryman for Smith and Son Inc., a large investment corporation with plenty of fingers in various pies.

Wait. A client from his company? "Eh?" THAT WAS NOT GOOD AT ALL! Just how bad did one's luck had to be for something like THAT to happen out of an act of kindness?! Her thoughts rushed, thinking how she could make that up. Money? Absolutely an option. Yami would surely understand. But while panic set up in her mind, they were interrupted by his own questions, helping her calm down. She would absolutely invite him to dinner now. "Of course! I-I mean, I would gladly have dinner with you."

And just a few minutes later, just like that, she found herself with a man in her apartment. It was the same size as his own, but what would be easy to notice were subtle details here and there. The furniture smelled new, had no scratches on it. And she had money. The TV in the living room was quite big, and the current and last generation consoles were arranged under it.

"Make yourself at home. And what would you like to drink?" Inside his pack was fried rice, and yes. Still warm. A dish that was easy to make, yet tasty. Tearju surprisingly chose a can of beer for herself.

Mark was rather amused to see the torrent of expressions that his pretty neighbor lady made in just a few short moments as he’d told her about who the creep turned out to be and the consequences he suffered for it. She seemed like the type who wore her heart on her sleeve, so he was happy to hear she accepted his offer to have dinner with him. What he didn’t expect was for her to mishear and instead invite him over to her place, but who was he to look gift horse in the mouth, right?

Claire’s apartment was a carbon copy of his own in terms of size and room layout, which wasn’t surprising considering it was in the same complex. Only the corner apartments might look slightly different, he figured. “Just water is fine, thanks,” he responded as he wandered about the living room a bit, taking in the decorations. Of particular note was the assortment of consoles by the TV. Was she a gamer? Unexpected, but not in a bad way, if true. “These yours?” he asked, curiosity getting the better of him.

Tearju shook her head. "No. My daughter started with the white and green one, and eventually got herself the most popular ones. Even better, she turned it into her current job and is fixing old arcade machines." A hobby turned job could of course feel a bit sour, but Tearju was absolutely glad that her daughter had fun with it. And not many could work on old hardware, so that job would hopefully do her well for some time. "If you would like to play something, be our guest. I'm not as good as her, but you'll be surprised how good I am in co op games~" Not that it was much to brag about, but who could tell that to this smiling with pride face of hers? She even puffed up her already notable chest, with both of her hands on her sides.

There was quite a selection to choose from. The consoles dated roughly from the SNES, all the way to the current generation, and even 2 VR headsets. The game library for each of them was of course not complete, but the console classics were absolutely in, as well as a few niche titles. If counted, each console had about 30 games properly ordered alphabetically in the shelves.

Her words gave Mark reason to pause, though he didn’t show it visibly as he continued to look over the collection of consoles that were lined up by the TV. He had guessed Claire to not be a day over thirty – if even that – so to hear she had a daughter who was making money fixing old arcade machines up, made him wonder if she was one of those women who was actually older than she looked. Or perhaps she had her daughter at a young age? Or perhaps her daughter was a genius or something? Or perhaps a combination of things?

“Really? She must be pretty gifted for her age, then, huh?” he asked casually, attempting to gain a clue that might put some credibility to one of his current theories. Just for curiosity’s sake, of course.

Chuckling at Claire’s boast about her prowess in co-op games, he responded by suggesting, “Well, then how about we go a few rounds after dinner?” Taking another peek at the collection, he was pretty impressed by the range on offer; from SNES to the latest VR headsets. He himself was more a PC guy, admittedly, though he did have a Playstation 5 set up, as well, for those few exclusives that were pumped out for it, like God of War.

Gifted was putting it mildly as far as Tearju was concerned, and she laughed a bit nervously. "It's honestly a bit scary." Her personal theory was that if her dear Yami ever got into politics, it would be quite a spectacle. But those thoughts were for another time. And more importantly: Tearju found herself a friend to play games with. "Gladly~"

And so after dinner, time was spent on some quality co-op gaming. As for her skill, Tearju was an absolutely serviceable gamer, who sat calmly on the sofa with a controller in hand, and calmly pressing buttons. Given that they had some time, she could show that she was capable in a racing game, not so good but not a liability in shooters, and excelled in puzzle games. Generally. The more time she was given to react, the better she was.

With the last round in their last game done, Tearju chuckled. She had genuine fun~ "Say. Since you got suspended because of me, would you like to come over for your meals for a while?" It felt nice to be in his company, and she would like to have a bit more of it. Both to repay him, and also because it's not always she could enjoy herself like this.
