Pixel Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 [ Private Screening ] In the dead of night, the eve of Halloween, the last bus of the route drove through the empty streets, the only light around it being those from within and the headlights that broke through the pitch blackness ahead of it to keep track of the broken yellow lines on the asphalt. The driver's lidded eyes blink as they catch sight of a figure waiting by the reflective sign that shined in the darkness. The bus screeched to a stop and hissed as it lowered to accommodate the passenger about to board. With a baseball bat over his shoulder, a man stepped onto the bus and dropped a few coins into the fare terminal. Looking the man over, the bus driver said, "Some, ah... Some night for a Halloween party.", his attention now lingering on the vintage-style devil mask that the new passenger wore. The passenger's eyes shifted up and the sound of dropping coins ceased as he paused entirely, staring at the driver silently. The hand holding the bat gripped tighter, an audible creak coming from the wrapping against the gloves he wore. Eyes still on the driver, the final coin could be heard dropping and a chime came from a speaker. His eyes lingered in the driver a bit longer before he turned to step into the bus and find a seat. The driver, feeling weirdly intimidated by the bizarre figure that just stepped onto his transport, watched him go by, then shook his head and dragged his hand down his face. "Jeez... I hate Halloween.", He whispered to himself, having his fair share of nutjobs come aboard over the years. The Passenger walked slowly through the aisle as the vehicle began to move, but he did not lose balance even slightly. Other passengers, common folk who were going home after work or after shopping, anywhere they may have been and then needed to go, watched him pass by, some of them tried to scoot closer to the window as he neared them. Finally, finding an empty row of aisle-facing seats, he sat himself down, his head hanging limp between his shoulders as he leaned forward, resting his forearms on his knees. His shoulders visibly rose and fell, as though he was catching his breath. Across from him, a row forward, a little boy was turned to look at him over the edge of his seat, curious, his mother looking out the window beside him and paying no mind. His eyes were wide and fixed on the bat that was held to tightly in the Passenger's hand, splashed with something red, the thick end of it dripping onto the floor below. The Passenger noticed this as well as his eyes drifted up to the bat from the floor where it dripped, then glanced over to see the boy looking at him. They shared eye contact for an extended few moments, then he slowly lifted his slender finger to the smiling mouth of the colorful devil mask... -------------------------------- Ever heard of Hack/Slash? This idea is inspired greatly by the adventures of Cassie Hack, a comic book serial killer killer. We all wish we could be that person. The person who stands up, who says "no", who knows that there is wrong out there and wants to make it right, who yearns for real justice for those who have been wronged in the most horrible of ways. Unfortunately, we also all believe that there is a "right way", so we rest on our faith that "the system" will work. This is a story about people who do not give a fuck about the system. Who know there is no real justice, that too many go with too light of punishment or none at all that deserve it. My character, a so far unnamed young man with a bone to pick (or, several) with killers decided years ago that he had nothing more to lose and wasn't about to sit around anymore while people were murdered in cold blood. With a collection of vintage Halloween masks that he wears on every outing and a toolkit of different things to maim the guilty, justice is taken into his hands... No, not justice. Punishment. Your character can be whoever you like and could meet him in a variety of ways, such as a scenario similar to the beginning of Fear Street Part One, except he isn't too late to stop the masked killer after your character is on the losing end of their own slasher movie. She finds him and has to convince him to let her be his partner in his crusade. Just a possibility. Basically after that, they go around slaughtering killers that they track down. Everyone loves a story where evil gets what's coming to them...
