I agree that it would be great if it was automated however this is simply not possible under this framework. We're currently using IPS which a community suite made by Invision. Their software is amazing, and it does a lot of things, however it's also extremely limited when it comes to doing what we want it to do, and simply put: It's not built to do what we're trying to do with it and we have to modify it extensively just to get it to do the things that it does. We started hitting a ceiling on what we can and can't actually modify the software to-do around last year or so and started working on another solution, something we're building from the ground up, which will do exactly this. I spoke about this in an article (Under 5: The Future of EcchiDreams) last year where I vented some of my frustrations: Currently the progress of the project is stalled due to some personal events that have happened but we're looking to restart and get it back on track soon.

I'm aware of this and it's an IPS issue (A bug). Unfortunately IPS is doing away with Statuses all-together in their next major release, so it's unlikely there will ever be a fix for it.

Is there a specific place we should post characters?
Tema replied to SexySpirits's question in EcchiMeta's Questions
It depends on what you're wanting to do. If you're wanting to roleplay in a club; then yes, they should have a character ID section, or an image/album section where you can post up your reference images and bio sheets. However if it's private roleplaying or have the same character across multiple clubs; and you have reference images you can use our gallery. Please keep mind the rules however such as Section 18 and Section 18, Sub-Section 1. You can add a bio in the description of the reference image and add a link to your roleplayer preferences there. Additionally you can link these albums containing your character(s) to your roleplayer preferences to show your characters if you want to make it as easy as possible for roleplayers to find out more about you. -
ecchimates Bug? with EcchiMates

I mean it's something to bear in mind in future. After speaking to the developer, it turns out my theory is correct. He's working on a bug fix. -
ecchimates Bug? with EcchiMates
Tema replied to Imouto Kanna's topic in EcchiMeta's Comments & Suggestions
Please use: https://ecchidreams.com/help/support/bug-report/ for bug reports in future. But thanks for making me aware of this, I'll try and find out what's happening and speak to the guy who developed the module. The theories are okay, but they should still appear as the user accounts still exist. My theory here is that it could be that someone sent the request whilst they had zero posts and then deleted their account, in which case I would assume that will remove itself on the normal timeout (60 days). If you don't respond to an EcchiMates Request after 60 days it will automatically delete itself. -
1) That *may* be possible, actually. Like using Rainbow Text for new messages? I will look into it! 2) Not sure if this is possible. I will see if it can be done. It should show the avatar of the last respondent though. 3) Unfortunately not. I know it's not ideal, but we'll see how IPS improves this. 4) I am not aware of this bug and that sounds like a bug we don't want people to run into. I do know that it's not designed for long messages, as it doesn't support new lines, so everything is written as one paragraph. But at the same time it shouldn't be doing this. I will look into it.

I feel like I should copy and paste this response. But; This isn't possible under the IPS system as far as I am aware. The main issue is that IPS is built for communities - not for what we're using it for. We can try to meld it to suit our needs, and try and force it to do what we want, but ultimately it's not designed for this. This is why my brother in law, and I are creating a bespoke (Custom and Coded to serve our needs) from the ground up to replace what we're using. I am not sure if this could be useful to anyone/everyone or if it's very niché. I'd certainly be interested in hearing additional feedback and I will also forward this to our suggestions inbox of our development Trello. That said there are a few things of note for this: Whilst changing the title DOES indeed change the URL; it doesn't actually matter. For all the shit I give IPS their linking system is actually fairly good. (See example 1a, 1b and 1c, below) You could make it prominent in the description - I know its not ideal, lots of buttons pressed instead of one drop down that can display a label somewhere on the image. Tags might work, setting the availability as a tag and then setting that tag as a prefix so it appears at the beginning of the tags. But given people's aversion to actually read stuff, there's no telling how effective this is. IPS's Linking System is actually very good, if the link to something changes it still directs to the correct content. The important thing in an EcchiDreams URL is the number, not the text. You can even completely make up whatever text you want. So for example (1a) this topic: The following URL's will work: https://ecchidreams.com/community/topic/6963-character-availability/ https://ecchidreams.com/community/topic/6963-foobar https://ecchidreams.com/community/topic/6963-a-really-neat-suggestion (Example 1b) The same thing happens with mention tags as well as profile URLS: @Novaer - @Tripp - @Wolfie <-- All these mentions link to the same user as do all these links: https://ecchidreams.com/dreamer/1-tema/ https://ecchidreams.com/dreamer/1-tripp https://ecchidreams.com/dreamer/1-wolfie https://ecchidreams.com/dreamer/1-foobar (Example 1c) So the same thing happens with albums too. https://ecchidreams.com/gallery/album/2540-arish-reynard-free/ https://ecchidreams.com/gallery/album/2540-this-sexy-maid-fox/ https://ecchidreams.com/gallery/album/2540-foobar As far as I know this works with just about everything that has a number on it like this. You can change any of the text to whatever you want it to be as the system only listens to the number - not the text. The text is for you and perhaps Search Engine Optimisation/Listings. Although "https://ecchidreams.com/gallery/album/2540" doesn't work, which I find slightly inconsistent. So with that in mind, whenever your URL's change because you've edited the titles - it doesn't matter. Thank you for the suggestion.

I would love to, however as far as I am aware it is not possible under the IPS framework. However I feel your pain on this, I too would like that to be an option. If there is a third party modification on IPS's end that makes this possible, I will strongly consider putting it in. For now though: I will put it in as a suggestion for the project I'm working on with my brother in law, something we hope to replace our use of IPS, with. Hopefully it will be implemented one day - but not on EcchiDreams as it currently is, but rather as it will be.

Not guilty. I've never had a pumpkin before. u_u; The next poster is guilty at being fuckin' awesome!

Not guilty. I like Hentai, never been a fan of Anime. (Not a secret) The next person is guilty for never actually reading the Terms of Service in its entirety.

Sadly not, no. No not under this software framework (IPS), but we're working on a solution for this as part of the new framework. The only downside to this is that I don't have a release date for it. I think there might be some kind of marking or indication that the conversation has unread messages, other than bringing it to the top of the list, but it's not very clear. That is something I could make more clear, it's certainly not outside my scope. As answered in our admittedly sparce FAQ's. We do not, no. Thank you though. I'll get that fixed. It should've been removed when EcchiChat was no longer a thing. I'll see why it got included again and I'll remove it again. Thank you for spotting this!

Yeah the looping is a deeper problem than I anticipated. It should be visible now but only as a text based link.

Private marks for users over their avatars?
Tema replied to arne's topic in EcchiMeta's Comments & Suggestions
Unfortunately not on this software, no. However, I can see how this can be useful I will certainly bring this up internally as a suggestion for the new software that we hope to transition to. Or perhaps some kind of private note system like that seen on Discord, a note you can leave on a profile that is visible only to you.- 1 reply

Absolutely, I'd be honoured to help out! This is an amazing outpost of creative writing and I personally would love to see it continue! It's a fantastic passion project and I want to help in anyway I can.

I understand that recent deactivations and bans have raised some concerns, especially since one of the affected individuals was a roleplayer you were enjoying writing with. However, it's essential to provide a clear perspective on the matter. To the best of my knowledge, the most recent ban occurred on May 25th when the account "preggylez" was banned for ban evasion and prolific duplicate accounting. It's worth noting that most bans are associated with secondary accounts, typically one-time offenders. In such cases, while the primary account might receive a warning, it won't be banned. Therefore, there is no ongoing purge taking place on the platform and I assume you're being hyperbolic for comedic sake. That said: We absolutely enforce our Terms of Service diligently, and we stand by that decision without apology. Regarding account deactivations, it's crucial to understand that this action is initiated solely by the Dreamers (users). We, as the platform, do not deactivate anyone's account against their consent. Deactivations occur when individuals decide to take that step for various personal reasons. Unfortunately, this is beyond our control, and although it's saddening, it's a reality we must acknowledge. Removing the deactivation feature altogether wouldn't be a viable solution, as it would affect the user experience for everyone. I understand that this might not be the response you were hoping for, but I wanted to provide you with an honest and accurate account of the situation. If you have any further concerns or questions, please let me know, and I'll do my best to assist you.

Tema commented on Tema's news article in News and Announcements
The actual policy has been voted on, and passed unanimously. It's now in the Terms of Service (Section 18, Sub-Section 1) but as per the article, it's implementation doesn't start until June 24th 2023, so you have time to still start moving things around. You can see a copy of it here, or here. On and after June 24th 2023, the category will be set to read only, a new category will be made, and we will transfer all albums that are in compliance over, leaving only those that aren't in the read only area. We will of course still help those move images and such around if requested as well as delete old albums - just give any of the staff an EcchiText.- 22 comments

A suggestion! (Probably not an original one)
Tema replied to LewdiKris's topic in EcchiMeta's Comments & Suggestions
Hello, apologies for the late response. Currently this is not possible under the current framework, however I will bring this up as a suggestion for the new framework we're working on (As we're moving away from IPS), because it is a very good suggestion. What is possible, however, is that you can create a folder which will allow you to save certain messages, and separate them out from everything else. Of course this will mean checking it, but it can be done, as I do it. It's not ideal, and I will grant you that, but there is at least a work around. I was explaining to @Casey back in November that this is possible as she asked for something similar, so this screenshot is from then.- 1 reply

Tema commented on Tema's news article in News and Announcements
Yes and no. Lets break these questions down as there are two question here: I'm not sure. If you're talking about links to your current albums, then yes. These will stop working after the transitionary period is over. If, however, your album is already compliant (Some are), and it just needs to be moved over to the new category, that should work fine. Yes and no. If you have actual character names associated with them, then yes you'll need to put them into their own albums. But if you just have a collection of images that you want people to pick from you are going to have to use an image hosting service. I've heard "Imgbox" floating around and being a choice, but there are many ways you can do this. @Mini Magi for example has included a list of images in their Roleplayer Preferences, for example. I will be coming back to this topic on Tuesday, as I will be working on the other project over the weekend and bank holiday Monday.- 22 comments

Edit: I've found the problem and I whilst the bug seems to be fixed, the Dreamers now display in a list, and I've kept it hidden for now until I can get that to loop correctly. I appreciate you @Pantasia for bringing this to my attention, and @Flea for helping clarify. Unfortunately I should be working on another project at the moment, but I have tagged this to fix properly next week. Fingers crossed, I can do it next week and it doesn't turn out to be a deeper problem than I anticipate. (Possible foreshadowing)

Ah, I understand. "If your online status is set to visible, other users can see that you are currently online in various online lists, as well as the specific page you are viewing within the community." I assume, like most reasonable individuals such as yourselves, that if your online status is not visible, the opposite would hold true, and I fully agree with that perspective. It is evident that this behaviour is a clear bug. I will investigate the issue further, but for now, I can simply disable that module entirely since it is not functioning as intended. However, if any more of this information is inadvertently revealed, we might need to consider limitations imposed by the IPS system. It seems that, like other features coded by IPS (Such as the Ignore System), the hide online talks big but lacks the necessary enforcement to be effective. Something we are most certainly working on with the software we hope will completely replace this.
-
It absolutely can be, because I use this feature myself. If you - or your friend go to: https://ecchidreams.com/settings/account-security/ You should be able to find "Online Status" under Privacy, which reads: "If your online status is visible, then other users can see that you are currently online in any online lists, as well as the page you are currently viewing on the community." You should be able to set it to invisible. Although I have an interesting problem in that I can't seem to make myself visible again. Not entirely sure as to why, could just be a me problem.
