The Great Mage (JennyDK, Integral)

Recommended Posts

The capital buzzed with activity from a recent visit from the nobility.  The members of the royal family watched the city upon a hill, their castle built directly on it. Knights, merchants, nobles, and servants all flocked there to both serve and earn the King's favor. Concluding their business the nobles returned to their own lands, but needed to pass through the town with an escort.

The city itself was fairly wealthy compared to the surrounding villages and towns. Around the marketplace, you could find exotic spices or fine silk dresses from merchants around the country. Mystics, fortunetellers offering adventures advice for their journeys. While blacksmiths made new swords and armor for the knights. Rumors of magic were also common, several mages reportedly living in the area. It was then two street urchins were searching for a mage after hearing one of them was spotted.

As per tradition for the royal family for generations upon generations, ascending and earning the right to rule is not just a given. Rather, it is expected that upcoming ruling members must make a name of themselves beyond just their lineage. The family believes that one must be able to back ones name up with deeds of name and recognizion. So it has been for ages and still is to this day. The currently family is a bit short of possible heirs as the current queen only has birthed a single daughter. Luckily, that is not a bad thing as long as she manages to prove herself somehow.

The royal family has had members with all sorts of talents: swordplay, speeches, herbalism, various artforms and so on. Weirdly enough, the only one with a raw and natural talent for spellcraft is the current possible heir: Maria Ironclaw. Even from young did she wield accidental spells without knowing what she was doing. Thankfully, there are mages who has helped her out, but her talents are still unpolished and with a lot of potential for growth. She may even discover magic unheard of so far.

Maria has decided both to try and make a name for herself and that the court mages has done all they can, so she asks permission to wander out and do her deeds to earn the right to ascend to queen when the time hits. After some reluctance from her parents, they finally allowed her to do so, as long as she was extra careful. They have a magical item made so she can teleport home instantly, with it being a single time use thing.

She switches her clothing out with something more mundane and covering, a hood to mostly conceal her face. She packs whatever she needs for a few days before then heading out and is currently making her way through the marketplace.

At the marketplace, the two boys eyed the crowds carefully. It was well-known across the town what the princess looked like; her blue eyes, and hair being distinctive.  "When is she going to arrive Leyd? We've been wasting months on this." the brown-haired boy asked tugging on the boy's shirt. "I don't know, Lyon just keep looking for her. Don't nobles wear fancy dresses and ride in horses?" He replied his eyes darting through the various townspeople unsure if they were going to be successful. "Fine, but what do we say? Is she really going to take us as apprentices?" Lyon said peeking his head behind one of the buildings. "Let's just find her first."

"Do you trust the fortuneteller and rumors that much? Someday we'd meet a powerful mage." Lyon complained, before Leyd lifted his foot numerous cuts and bruises, strips of cloth covering it. "Her fortunes always come true, aside from that we could steal." he said pointing to the solider. They'd give several lashes to any offenders, before a hanging if they continued. "This is our only chance brother, as long as we're useful to her." a small smile reaching his eyes as he handed a half eaten apple while Lyon nodded smiling to before he greedily bite into the fruit.

What felt like hours passed before it finally happened, bright blue eyes and hair just as the teller told them. A girl's face peaking out from the hood she just for a seocnd. "Lyed!" Lyon exclaimed as the two immediately ran towards the noble. "You're Maria Ironclaw! The heir to the kingdom." Both of the boys said jumping up and down excitedly. They immediately kneeled in front of the princess, "P-Please take us as your apprentices!" Leyd said. While Lyon had his head down. Getting a closer look, the dirt and grime on their faces were visible. Clearly orphans, only rags and tattered bits for clothing.

  • Integral Deactivated changed the title to The Great Mage (JennyDK, Integral)

OCC: It's unlikely they'd know that specifically, should've established the fortuneteller could predict when Maria would arrive at the market. I made some edits, let me know what you think.

OOC: Yes, very well, thank you ^^ I can easily work with this!

Thankfully it's not too crowded at this time and she specifically chose a less busy part of the grand market here, hoping it might help her to not get noticed. However, she is still spotted and by two very energetic kids no less. She hopes she can still rectify her situation and turn this into less of a spectacle. She puts her finger to her lips."Shhhh...not so loud! Please...get up...follow me to the alley over there...geez", she says with a hushed voice, trying not to make others notice what is happening here. She then motions for them to follow her, so they are out of public view, hoping this wasn't too visible and audible for anyone nearby. The idea of going incognito would easily be blown if too many knew about her being here and out in the open. To help herself, she conjures a silent spell, requiring no movements of her hands. A puff of smoke emits from out of the blue, covering them and her in it, so they may slip away.

Leyd gasped as she muted him, both of the boys nodding swiftly. "Oh sorry, we didn't mean to!" the silver-haired boy apologized still making a commotion. They followed her obediently, giddy from excitement after gaining an audience with a mage and princess. "I told you, the fortuneteller never lies." Leyd quietly whispered to his brother before escaping to an alleyway. It was dark, so someone's face could only be seen up close. There was little space between each building but just enough for the group, "I'm Leyd and this is my brother Lyon!" he said while Lyon walked up to the girl. Her baggy clothing hiding her figure, "We wish to serve you my lady." He bowed respectfully while Lyon stood by his side, "Is she really the princess? Maybe she could be a witch using a glamour ow!" Lyon then groaned getting pinched a little before bowing, "I-I mean, we wish to serve you as well. We want to become a great mage just like you."

OOC: Could you add their image reference perhaps? So I can keep remembering how they look. As long as it's not lewd or nude, it will be okay.

Within seconds they are out of the public eye and pretty well hidden by the darkness and buildings adjacent to them. She pulls her hood down, revealing her face and hair fully, indeed looking like the princess to them."I suppose I do not need to introduce myself. I am flattered you would want me to teach you, but I am sure there are plenty of proper and adept magic users in town who can teach you. I actually do not have time to stay here as I have something I need to attend to. So I think it would be best if you found someone who is not currently busy...besides, why would I want to teach you?", she argues, wondering why she should spend her time and effort to do that.
