Cortex Game Interest Check

I have a rough character concept to share. One of the things that drew me into this idea was @IsabellaRose's Anamnesis playthrough that created Prudence Lawton, Ashburn,Mother of the Unbound. So, inspired by the Daughters of The Inbound, I see a monk-like character, similar to Kwai Chang Caine from the 70's TV show, Kung Fu. An Ashborn Aesthete (as opposed to the Ashborn) is dedicated to the truth that all love is sacred. They are equal parts Bodhisattva, Zatoichi the Masseur Sufi Dervish and wuxia monk. They carry The Ashborn's love, both platonic and sensual, for all. They are defender, lover, healer and their distinction is -
So for this, I think we'd use it 2 ways - the first would be using an SFX to create a d8 temporary asset, an "elixir I just pulled out of my ass" kind of thing. The other would be to take time to create an elixir for a purpose before you need it. We'd need to figure out what's different about a planned elixir and a "wait, I'm mixing this right here on the spot" one, probably a better chance of success or more chance of unpredictable results. This could absolutely work. I'll come up with some SFX ideas for it to see what you think.

Cortex Prime gives you three main distinctions, but the original Cortex Dramatic uses Distinctions more like Traits. So instead of a Distinction being specific to your character like "Outlaw Gunslinger" or "Lady's Handmaid Automaton" that is pretty specific, you'll get to add or step up Distinction/Traits like "Marksman" or "Shameless Flirt" at most steps of the Pathways process. But also, we can create custom Distinctions as I outlined above to give each character something unique.

Any one of those will work! I've been developing custom Distinctions to give some flavor to the various character types. For the Mad Scientist you'd have a Tinkerer distinction or something more focused on a certain area of mad sciencing - Maybe chemistry, Galvinism (Frankenstein), vivisection and surgical evolution (Dr. Moreau), or some other specialty. The Sky Pirate would have an Airship Signature Asset, possibly even a crew as Resource/Extras. The automaton could use the Automaton heritage distinction I outlined above. For the wild west tropes, they could lean hard into the Distinction Traits I listed in the Rules thre

“Trying to revenge tease me now?” Jumi asked, mostly joking. As Mitsuko encouraged a wait. Jumi was not going to fight over it, but with it on her mind this much, it was a bit frustrating to not even give it a try. Was this something like the frustration she occasionally heard men complain about. Except maybe without some of the physical discomfort she heard they could feel if they waited too long to relieve arousal? “We’ll play it your way for now. But, I haven’t completely given up on seeing if we can do it here. Hard to wait for something like that. Especially if it looks like you want it.” Make it clear, she would respect Mitsuk

I wanted to try my hand at making my own version of my distinction/SFX since im rethinking the scientist angle and feeling more of a secret agent esk honey trap angle, which i feel like could work well in a steampunk setting Distinction: Alchemical Agent Humans are simply beasts with a more refined mating call, and you? you have learned the pheromones to tame those animals. you are a scientist of scents bending your test subjects to your will, and agent of aroma crafting concoctions that hide your work in a haze of heat and need, a prophet of potions guiding your flock to a passionate paradise of your own design. you are nothing to

Name: Millicent 'Millie' Gearhart Age: 22 Sexuality: Repressed (Bisexual) Bio: Millicent knows machines, even if she doesn't know people. Socially awkward, tactless, kind of endearing if you can handle her latest hyper fixations, Miss 'Gearhart' comes from the fringe, grew up taking apart clockwork mechanisms and- as a woman grown- is one of the finest inventors and tinkerers outside of the Big-name professors. She's creative, quick to invent something overly complex for a simple problem, and will talk your ear off for HOURS if you don't stop her. Millie never made it as a b

Here are a couple of thoughts for distinctions that have occured to me but I don't have the mechanical understanding to fully dress out: Professional Distinction: Snake Oil This occupies some space between Dr. Jeckyl and Drunken Master, maybe? My thought here is that they have an assortment of elixirs and concoctions that should work, but they never quite know what the result will be. They make a roll, to check how close they get to their intent, and can spend plot points to step up the die. A couple of clarifications before I try to explain myself further, this is definitely requires some time and maybe there's an extra time requir -

Mitsuko wasn't sure that it was a good idea. A wish for personal pleasure would be seen as wrong to ask. "This is why we should ask Shinigami... I think she would like the idea of it. I don't know what she could do for you but maybe... I don't want to bother a god over this. I need to keep a cool head. After all, I used to study about gods during class and I don't think that it is the kind of thing that I'd ask one if I met any.", she told her friend. Knowing that Shinigami did it to her first, taking her virginity away with it, felt special for her. The closeness and the grasp of the fox on her as they did it. But still, her time with Jumi w -

Age:22 Rank: medical officer Bio: SHe was an odd child curious about everything, however until a very dark innoocent kinda sorta broke her mind childlike with a hint of the eccentricity of a mad scientist. she worekd a fought on battlefields as a mercenary for years following the emesis blue program. this didnt make her habits go away luckily she mostly focuses on her medical side though the desire to experiment to evolve humanity is still there if diluted. never ask her about emesis blue or whatever dark illegal practices that came of it

So this feels like it basically perfectly captures what i was going for, but i would like to have something that can redirect the aroused status track into another direction. IE make them a temporary ally when the stress track is filled, convert aroused into another form of stress, or cause two targets with high arousal to... "finish each other off" Basically i would like a finisher to tie things together if possible? Still not really confident with the system to flat out make something...

Oh what I've listed I've narrowed it down to: The Abomination: A former Archaeologist turned unfortunate victim of a mad scientist that has been turned into a freak of nature and seeks a way to regain their humanity, or come to grips with their new state of being and its potential gifts. "Sexy" Lean: Might have been changed to satisfy those with peculiar taste. A perfect party favor. The Conductor: Grew up around trains all their life and fell in love with the roar of their wheels, and workings. Eventually came to own their own line and aggressively expanded it, and further seeks to expand it outward even dealing with negotiations -
Of the listed archetypes I think the ones which appeal most to me are: Steampunk Character Tropes the Mad Scientist/Inventor, often eccentric and responsible for technological breakthroughs the Sky Pirate, a roguish individual who travels the skies the Automaton, a steam-powered mechanical being that can question human nature Western/Wild West Character Tropes the Lone Gunfighter/Drifter, a wandering hero, often a gunslinger or reluctant lawman, who lives by a personal code the Lawman, a character who upholds justice, either as a corrupt official or a righteous figure the Bounty Hunter, a me

Heritage Distinction: Automaton Heritage You were not born, but built, brass gears for bones, steam for breath, an alchemical spark for a soul. Your strength is unmatched, your endurance endless. Humanity looks at you not only with awe, but also with fear and suspicion, and the same science that gave you life can be turned against you. You may be a marvel, but you are also a machine. d4: Earn a Plot Point when your Abilities are Shutdown by technological interference, sabotage, or loss of power. d8: Spend a Plot Point to directly interface with a piece of technology, analyzing or controlling it as if it were an extension of

Hmm don’t want to overthink things before having a better idea of what I will play. But might try to think up a little more for some of what I was considering.
