@DreamsnThings I think Kiyo could be a good friend for Jasmine. Maybe she keeps clean thanks to Jasmine's help, and assists with scrounging up goodies due to her hoarding nature? Kiyo would definitely follow someone who could cook delicious foods. Perhaps that is how they met in the first place?

I will be adding a copy of everyone's character to this post, but, just so you can edit your characters, please post them here ourselves as well.

Kiyo is The Gunlugger. She wears scrounged mismatched armor, using whatever might have the highest utility value to her, and certainly not because she enjoys hoarding things. Because she is fairly small and compact she has to adjust the size of said items often. Her mutation most closely resembles that of a squirrel. Atop her head are a pair of long ears, which are quite useful for listening to her environment. She has a very large fluffy tail, which is at least useful for hanging off things or dusting away tracks behind her in environments where that becomes neccessary. Light brown fur covers both her ears and tail, which at least makes it easy enough to conceal them in most environments. Her skin is fair, bordering on pale, which makes sense given her tendency to operate mostly at night or, at the very least, covered from head to toe in whatever she can find. Her eyes are red and usually carry a gleam of optimism, something a little easier to hold on to when one tends to avoid direct confrontations. Her hair, which is an almost white pale blonde, is quite long and typically kept bundled into a thick ponytail. She tends to wear it down the back of her clothes, as when her hair is allowed freedom it tends to fluff up and become fairly wild. Beneath her clothes one would discover a petite figure with some curves along her rump and hips, some fullness to her thighs, and an otherwise skinny frame, as food is hard to come by despite her best efforts. There are a few minors scars thanks to a few missteps in the past, but her preferred way of handling conflicts has kept her more or less unscathed.

Spoiler

79f67ec19fe3.jpg

Kiyo is a strange creature. Some may classify her as chaotic. Others who don't quite know her might ascribe multiple personalities to her. She tends to exude a fairly chipper and optimistic presence, although part of that is just her way of coping with how bad the world really is, is partly based off what she needed to do to survive in the past, and this optimistic mask may crack with enough applied pressure. She can be a bit too forgiving sometimes. and may come off at times as someone who is genuinely compassionate, someone who likes to help others. She is shy around new people, and avoids public speaking when she can.

However once people get to know her they learn of another side of this strange creature. Kiyo is cautious of new places and new people, and initially this combined with her shyness might have someone believing that she is a completely introverted person. When she actually decides that a person is trust-worthy she tends to swing in the complete opposite direction, giving people perhaps a bit too much trust at times. This has definitely landed her into trouble before, but sometimes the optimism that she uses as a shield ends up bleeding into everything else that she does, and ends up getting her hurt. She can be quite energetic when she is in a relaxed state or around people she trusts, perhaps to the point of being overbearing. Kiyo can be stubborn, especially when it comes to learning what not to do or how not to get into trouble, but is overall well-meaning. It is easy for this energy and this stubborness to cross the line into something resembling bratty behavior, especially when her (possibly fabricated) optimism leads to her overestimating herself and, at times, gloating about her achievements until she is properly corrected, or until it might bring about conflict (if she even manages to notice this in time). When she gets into a bad mood it can often last for a long time, although good food or shiny loot (for her totally-not-a-hoarder-collection) is an easy way to cheer her up.

On the job she tends to lock in and become a little more serious, having learned the hard way from past failures what happens when she messes around too much. She will try to avoid taking a straight fight, preferring ambushes or, if she must, overwhelming shock and awe strikes. Other people might call her a coward for this, but she would call it being smart and safe. This also allows her to avoid direct social interactions with people she doesn't know, which is certainly a factor into why she has chosen this style of combat. If she really needs to step up and use other methods she will lock in and do as she must, although she might not like it and might initially grumble about it. When it comes to heavy physical work she will try to avoid it, leaving that to other bigger, stronger people. Although she isn't necessarily cruel, and doesn't typically enjoy hurting people, if a fight goes on for a bit too long or becomes a bit too heated (or explosive) she sometimes loses herself into a frenzied, giddy, battle lusting berserker state (explosions and gunfire can be fun and the smell of gunpowder is intoxicating).

Kiyo likes to collect things and is definitely not a hoarder (something she doesn't like to be called). Despite her at times timid behavior Kiyo is a very curious creature: she loves exploration and adventuring, especially when she is either alone (and therefore doesn't have to worry about other people) or is with someone she trusts (in which case she tends to go overboard anyways). While she doesn't like being around people she doesn't trust Kiyo can get lonely pretty quickly, and if this goes on for too long she will become overly clingy for some time once she finally does return to someone she trusts. She does have a slight complex when it comes to her height, and doesn't enjoy her shortness being pointed out, or the underestimation that it often brings, but inwardly will admit that both can be useful. While she shows excellent competence in certain things (like gunslinging and gunsmithing and scouting) she can often prove to be a little dimwitted when it comes to much of the world (ignorance is bliss and is perhaps part of what fuels her optimism), a trait born out of her lacking any formal education (or whatever might pass for that in this world).

Backstory

Spoiler

As is the case for most people in this cruel world Kiyo's story is not a pretty one, nor a fair one. Kiyo was one of the younger siblings in a litter of seven. Her family and her extended family and their extended families existed together in the underground ruins of the old world, scavenging as a clan what they could from the topsiders and, on occasion, those rare few unfortunate peoples who managed to stumble into their little dark world. There was never enough food to comfortably feed everyone in the clan, and as a result meal times could become hectic, even violent.

Kiyo was born the runt amongst her siblings, and so she ended up going hungry most nights, and often got into fights with the others, but at the end of the day she loved everyone in her family, and for the most part they loved her too. While she was the smallest and weakest of the bunch Kiyo made up for things with her flexibility, her quickness, and her wits. From a young age she tinkered with things, constructing what she could to help her bridge the gap between herself and her bigger siblings. Rarely did they actually work right, but when they did she was able to enjoy the occasional fleeting victory!

When she was old enough to walk she was set to work, assisting the family with scavenging, initially within the relative safety of the underground ruins but, eventually, topside with the others. It was hard work and there was little time to teach the children of the clan. Learning was done the hard way, and it wasn't uncommon to lose one of the children young from accidents. Kiyo in fact lost her two younger siblings during an unfortunate makeshift bridge collapse only a year after she started working in the topside.

Her life was quite suddenly and violently shaken up in the span of a single day when a group of topsiders caught her and her siblings out and unaware during a scavenging run in the ruins above the ground. Armed with blades, pointed metal sticks, and in her case a makeshift single round popgun, they were no match for the heavily armed and armored topsiders. Her eldest brothers were cut down in a hail of gunfire. One of her sisters were crushed beneath the boot of a behemoth of a man clad in thick plate armor. A grenade killed her remaining sister and left her wounded. The combat was loud enough to draw out her parents and one of her uncles. Kiyo was taken as a hostage, and using her the topsiders forced a surrender, albeit with initial resistance from her uncle who was, unfortunately executed.

When her parents led the topsiders into the clan's home the remaining residents launched an ambush. Three of the topsiders fell in the exchange, but the remaining eight carried enough firepower and combat experience to slaughter the rest of her people. By the end of it all she was the sole survivor of her family. After a couple of hours of discussions and looting the topsiders decided to keep her as a pet.

For the next couple of years Kiyo was dragged along with the men and women who slaughtered her people. They learned quickly that she was not talented at much, and didn't make for a very useful slave. Initially they kept her on for their amusement, and would often beat or humiliate her, threaten her to get a rise out of her, and occasionally joked or perhaps warned her that she was nothing more than an emergency ration should they run out of supplies. She found it easier to deal with them when she put on a smile, and so optimism and excited energy became her mask, a shield against their abuses, and generally this was enough to stay their hand.

Over time they grew complacent, believed her will broken, and eventually lowered their guard. One night after raiding another group of people her captors got a little too drunk. She had spent the two years observing them, learning what she could, and preparing to make her escape when the right moment arrived. Kiyo took whatever she could carry, pulled the pin on a grenade, dropped it with the rest of the explosives, and fled. She never learned what precisely became of her captors, but the explosion must have done at least something, because they didn't end up giving chase to her.

A few more years passed, and during this time she learned through trial and error, and more than a few close calls, how to survive on her own. She discovered her own gift with firearms, and utilized this gift to earn a living. Eventually she made a few friends, and with these companions she traveled for some time, survivng together as a crew, assisting one another and honing each other's skills. For Kiyo it was as if she had found a new family, and for a while she was happy.

One of her favorite people in this new crew was a lady named Rubble. Rubble was a big mean looking lady with a real steely face! People called her Rubble because she wore these makeshift armor plates that were crafted from the tall stone ruins, so she looked like rubble. It let her be sneaky even though she was real big! Also she was really strong and used big weapons that made things explode and leave behind a lot of rubble. Her favorite was a big hammer she named Penelope. Kiyo could never lift it herself. It was real heavy. Most people thought she was scary, but not Kiyo. She was really nice to Kiyo and let Kiyo ride on her shoulders, and she would spoil Kiyo lots and even gave Kiyo leftovers all the time cause she said Kiyo had to eat more to grow more.

One wrong job, an ambush set up by a competing crew, and a series of cascading mistakes was all it took to lose her new family. They were hired to protect what was supposed to be medical supplies destined to one of the few relatively safe havens within the world. She didn't know it at the time but they were actually high end experimental medical supplies. Stuff from the old world. It was enough for another crew to hit her crew in transit. They were ambushed by a crew of twenty. Her crew was all but wiped out, not without halving the enemy crew first, but even so. Kiyo was the sole survivor on her side yet again. Kiyo only lived because her good friend Rubble shielded her from heavy gunfire after Kiyo got hit. She didn't look so great and was left to perish.

She was left to die, bleeding on the ground, and by luck alone was she found hours later by someone who was not only capable of helping her but willing to do so. Eventually she recovered, at least physically. Some woman (who she would later identify to be Violetta), who had originally found her and left her to bleed in the rubble of the fight, eventually did swing by while she was in recovery and told her that the ones who had wiped out her crew had been, in turn, wiped out. There were mixed feelings there. Kiyo didn't even manage to avenge the deaths of her new family, after all, and never could.

Since then she has continued to do what she must to survive, hoping one day to find a new family. Somewhat recently she joined a new crew which, amusingly enough, included the woman who left her to bleed out after her last family was slain.

Leon, The Brianer:

Spoiler

spacer.png

Leon is searching for a new place in life.  He grew up in prides of his people, was successful at it in younger days (18-early 20s, thinking maybe in late 20s  early 30s now).  As a Brainer he was always different.  He managed to build up a pride of his own though, but it was not a conventional one. The women tended to alternate between desiring him and feeling uneasy as he roamed in their minds.  He was eventually forced out, fought off.  He has now found himself in a new group, that does not follow his people’s ways, and have whatever opinions they may have about Brainers.  He has his instincts.  Being in a group where everyone else is a woman, tempts him.  But they are not his people, it remains to be seen if some or all are receptive.

Tall, muscular but not overly bulky, probably a few scars on his chest/back.  Black hair that resembles a mane on his head, more like fur maybe on his shoulders.  Claws in his hands and feet.  I was wrestling with things like more fur or a tail, but maybe not.

Backstory

Spoiler

Violetta was not raised, she was forged. The warlord who took her in as a youth believed feline mutants were the purest weapons left in the world, quick, graceful, and precise. She was collared and taught to obey without hesitation, to kill without trembling, and to use her body as fluidly as her blade. Affection was leverage. Pleasure was currency. Submission was survival. She learned all the lessons he taught, survived every trial from every handler, outlived every sister trained beside her. She served as his right hand, but when the warlord finally fell, she stood in the smoke and understood something simple. No one was holding her leash anymore.

Freedom tasted strange at first. There were no orders. There was no bed assigned to her, no collar hidden beneath silk and scars. But she found that the habits remained, and under the right kind of gaze she could still slip easily into the submissive patterns carved into her bones. It was familiar, safe in its own way.

But now that she was on her own, she discovered something unexpected: she liked taking control. The same skills they drilled into her, reading a room, anticipating hunger, striking at the exact moment of weakness, now served her own agenda. She chose when to drop to all fours, when to climb on top, and when someone died. That difference was everything.

Violetta trades in precision: a blade where needed, a body where useful. She no longer belong to anyone, and she intends to keep it that way. To be claimed is to be owned, and to be owned is to be caged. She has lived that life already. Now she wants something harder: she wants meaning, because she believes she is on her last life. She has a superstitious sense that she has survived too many impossible moments, and she carries the certainty in her chest like a countdown. This is the one that counts, the one that must mean something.

However, she has a weakness she guards with lethal efficiency. Somewhere beneath the training and the sharpened edges, there is a part of her that still aches for something she has never had. She wants love, freely given, not purchased or demanded, not earned through obedience. The craving terrifies her. She has killed people for suggesting she wants such a thing. But if someone were to slip past her armor and offer her something real, would she know how to accept it? She might run, lash out, fall to her knees out of old habit, or... she might discover something entirely new.

So she walks the wasteland without attachment, but desperate for something real. She is unclaimed, unowned, and unapologetic. She knows her death is coming, and if she is going to die, it will be as something she chose to become.
