"fucking new girl" is actually a military thing "FNG - fucking new guy(girl)" some one fresh out of basic and just showing up to a unit. Long on knowledge and clean, textbook regulations but extremely short of understanding. it, at least to me, implies an earnestness, eagerness, good intentions and naivety  that "just a paycheck" doesn't have. It also leaves a lot of room for things like, "But that's not the right part!" or "But the book says..." Especially in a unit like Strike Team Delta Foxtrot where pilot relations often take a physical turn that would be referred to as "fraternization". FNG also implies that some of the rest of the unit may find that earnest, by the book stuff annoying (although ultimately understandable).

Also, are the Liberation Union rebels getting paid? I had kind of thought this was kind of a "by the seat of their pants" operation, but is a bit more organized?

She COULD be, but I don't think it makes a lot of sense - they're not that different and, I think in a rebel army, being in it just for the paycheck is a REALLY serious problem. Maybe game breaking.

We can let other Aspects evolve from play. We can wait to figure out stunts as well. The next thing you really need is a few skills - you don't have to choose everything immediately, but you probably need to have a few important ones picked.

You get one at +4, two at +3, 3 at +2 and five at +1; the other seven skills you get at +0

Th list of skills is:

  • Athletics - agility and speed

  • Burglary - pickpocket, forgery, security systems

  • Contacts - who you know and how good you are at networking

  • Deceive - lie, disguise and misdirect

  • Empathy - reading people, especially emotionally

  • Engineering - making and fixing stuff

  • Fight - melee

  • Investigate - ask questions, search for clues

  • Lore - history, general knowledge

  • Notice - our friends in D&D call this Perception

  • Physique - strength and toughness

  • Pilot - operate a vehicle, car, boat BioFrame, fighter jet

  • Provoke - getting under people's skin to get them out of their game. Not quite intimidate. More like annoy.

  • Resources - not just wealth, but what you can get ahold of by knowing where to look

  • Sex- building Synch with your mech or otherwise using sex to achieve mechanical effect on the game

  • Shoot - yep, that

  • Stealth - sneak, hide, move silently

  • Will - mental toughness

Fair enough. Our GM has a point here. Might overcomplicate things to have her as a 'contractor' or someone who doesn't believe in the mission but also doesn't want to live under the Hive (the evil empire the Liberation Union is fighting against).

Just to visualize it, here's what I have for your character so far.

Name: ???

Aspects
High Concept: Machine-minded Engineering Wunderkind
Trouble: Fucking New Girl... (or) Rebellion? This is just a paycheck
First Adventure: Gimme a Second, I Can Fix It

Skills
Average (+1): pick 4
Fair (+2): pick 3
Good (+3): pick 2
Great (+4): pick 1

(And if you want to grab a reference pic for your character, we love those. But definitely not a requirement)

Cool so how do you want my character to come in?

So to give a quick tl;dr for the rp so far.

Captain Payarkoon sent Emily "Patches" Kehrer (that's me!) to scout out a new Hive base in the area. We're in a kind of coastal mountain range type of environment and Patches' BioFrame, "Scylla", is smaller than most and suited to these sorts of recon missions.

Patches alerts the Liberation Union base that the Hive base she's scouting is unarmed, just civilians, and a massive kaiju has just erupted from the sea to attack it. Patches and the captain think the Hive is luring the monster to attack their own people to frame the LU rebels. Patches distracts the kaiju while the Captain scrambles a carrier to fly out reinforcements.

Now Patches has control of a drone and is broadcasting the situation, showing that she (and Scylla) as well as Captain Payarkoon and her BioFrame, "Patune", are trying to defend the civilians - and Hive BioFrames are en route to join the fight.

If we want Rebecca to be on the carrier over the fight, she could possibly be trying to use the ship to aid us in the fight or possibly using all-mechanical drones or vehicles to try and assist the civilians.

It's also totally fair if you just want to take the first post to show Rebecca on the carrier overlooking the fight, introducing her in RP and asking for orders from the Captain.

Sure.

As the carrier came in the pilot was complaining that they were going as fast as they could because there's a bad thruster. Rebecca could be climbing through the access tunnel to get to the thruster and try to repair it so the strike team can make a quick getaway when the Hive shows up.

Maybe she hasn't even unpacked her travel bag yet. She she dropped it in the barracks when Payarkoon called for the emergency dust-off.

Ok...no~ pressure.... 😵‍💫😬

There is no pressure. It's fun, No one's going to judge you or your writing or how you interact with the story.
