Cortex Steampunk Game 1 OOC Discussion

As an aside, if you use the same name at Coyote Code - say you character's name - your roll history appears to be stored for some period of time. -

Apocalypse World OOC

I'm not going to count bullets, but know that a miss may very well result in, "the firing pin clicks hollowly into an empty chamber." Food will be enough to sustain you - I don't want to count days until you starve, but unless you make an effort, you will be hungry and scraping by on worm meal and rain water filtered through what's left of a T-shirt. Meds are always scarce, the Angel (if we have one) will need supplies. Misses will be the kind of trigger I use to tick down supply clocks. -

Cortex Steampunk: Rules Reference

As far as rolling for a Cortex game on ED, I chose CoyoteCode Dice Roller. Here's all the info: CoyoteCode Dice Roller link CoyoteCode Dice Roller help Quick Instructions Enter your character name or username List your dice to be rolled using standard 1d12 nomenclature, separate dice with a semicolon List what the dice represent in the Notes field. In the example below I'm rolling d12 Relationship, d10 Value, and d6 Distinction. You can just put the Value/Person name and we'll figure out that it's a relationship or value. Once you click Roll, you'll get results: You can copy/paste- 1 reply

Let's see I have relationship with Alicia that seems quite relevant, I am claiming authority to tell him what to so Power? And Magical Legacy specifically has Persuasion as an ability assuming you are okay with all of that the roll would be D6+D12+D10. That leaves me to my next question. How/where do I roll? -

I’ll think about what answer give for that privately, though that was one of the things I was left thinking too much about in Cortex. I’m not sure if there is anything I feel I absolutely do or do not want. Adding to what has been discussed here, so far, yeah, I’m happy with urban idea. As for resource management/inventories and such, it was one of those things I’ve had a degree of curiosity in. Wondered what it would be like back when I was reading those books for various systems I had as a kid. Though I’ve never actually experienced it beyond video games that at do least part of the work for you, at least automatically updating -

I should be more clear on the resource management part I brought up. I'm totally cool with it. It is however a bigger burden on the MC. And the game I had been in with that had us keeping track of each individual item, and the MC having some control over declaring if we found stuff while out and scavenging. I actually am perfectly fine with that myself, and was fine with keeping tabs on my own items. It is actually fun doing a system like that, where every resource is a choice you have to make. The only issue I had was that it places a larger burden on the MC, and I think it might have been part of why that game ended up failing. I just didn'

Gather here, and pick at the corpse of a world you never knew. So, first big question, what does this ruined civilization look like? Are we content with the remains of a giant urban complex? One thing we have determined is that we DON'T want a resource management game. That's kind of hard in a post apocalyptic setting. There's gas and guns, but we can eliminate counting shit like food and bullets. However, going to get that stuff is fun. One thing I thought we knew was no zombie apocalypse, but it seems that might be back on the table, so here's what we're gonna do: Everyone, PM me the one thing that will make it a game yo

The Battlebabe is my favorite playbook, but they're not as badass as they often think. Their high stats are cool and hot, they're really good at starting shit and keeping their head when it all explodes, but the ass-kickers are generally the Chopper, Gunlugger or Faceless. The Battlbabe is actually super social, the Driver is the real loner. The Driver is a fun playbook, but she needs reasons to be in their car. Having one in the game points to some truths about the setting and some of what is likely to happen. Namely, there are places to go and reasons to go there. They're specifically kind of antisocial, but without everyone else the D

That sounds good. The intent was "he's murdered! plot happens!" I just wanted you to have the opportunity to let Alicia do cool things if they sounded like fun things to do :) -
OOC: This feels like a perfect opportunity for our first contest. Edmund is trying to get Aldert to cease point and placing blame on Alicia and assist with the evacuation, calling him out in front of everyone. Aldert wants to cast aspersions and won't be easily swayed. You could build a dice pool (the most relevant Relationship + the most relevant Value + 1 Distinction, Ability, or Resource you can convincingly apply to the situation, if any) and roll to set the challenge. You would roll all the dice in your pool, then add the 2 highest results for your total (unless they're 1's, you can't add 1's to the total). Aldert could gi

The only thing I could think of would be to utilize Alicia's Alchemical Elixirs & Toxins. However I just noticed that I had reworked it before and her Regeneration is more of a built in thing now due to her weird chemically altered body (but then that could also be waved as her utilizing some injected elixir in the moment). That said if his throat was gutted as thoroughly as it might sound like then there might not even be a chance for even her scientific prowess to save him, which I'm totally cool with, so I'm willing to swing with that. -

If you want Alicia to have something that might bring him back from beyond, I'm open to seeing what happens, but the intent was that he's dead when he hits the floor. Remember though, this is OUR story, not mine, so if you want to try something that changes the direction I intend, it's entirely possible. I encourage players driving the plot! -
I found some examples of good post apocalyptic character choices but I think my struggle here might be to find good match for Apocalypse world. Well, ironically, I do have some characters having vibes of battlebabes... Like, dark, don't look at them wrong or get clawed. (In this regard, it CAN get them in troubles if they get too confident)

I’ve made a few attempts at post apocalyptic clubs myself, one new one considerably older, which will hopefully pick up at some point. I’m not against other setting types either, but if there is enough interest. I am thinking Apocalypse World may finally be my best intro to this sort of thing. Can maybe try a fantasy one later.

Truth be told I've seen plenty of fantasy focused roleplays on the site and not many post-apocalypse ones (save for ones which then go into the realm of fantasy, and even then still not common). Like Warning I do actually prefer anthros, or at least anthro-characteristics on my characters when I can (or really just non-Human in general). But a post-apocalypse setting just sounds like something that is more interesting and very much lacking, especially if it is also a little gritty. I don't actually mind a zombies setting, but that generally comes with certain baggage which has killed those roleplays in the past (namely resource management, wh

Unless I am wrong, I don't think "all" said they wanted fantasy. Mostly just me saying my preference, while still trying to be open to other things. As for Apocalypse world, one thing I notice is that it is very gritty. (Well, nobody said the apocalypse was a happy thing). However, I do have preferences of characters which don't have to be magical beings.
