Convoluted Number Game (Math required)

Recommended Posts

Posted

The rules of this game are simple.

1) The previous post (this one for the first participant) will have an integer that is at least 3 digits long. (Number)

2) That same post will contain a single digit number as well. (Component)

3) Using only the single digit number, try to create the large number. (Answer)

4) Your reply should contain an Answer, a New Number, and a New Component.

Starter Number: 947

Starter Component: 6

Have fun!

EDIT: Try doing it with as few of the number as possible!

I hope I am doing this correctly... If I understand this game then it's something like the numbers game on Countdown... If I got this wrong then instructions were unclear. 😀

  • 6 x 6 x 6 = 216
  • 6 x 6 x 6 = 216
  • 6 x 6 x 6 = 216
  • 6 x 6 x 6 = 216
  • 6 x 6 = 36
  • 6 x 6 = 36
  • 6 + 6 = 12
  • 6 / 6 = 1

Then add them all together and take away the last number; 216 + 216 + 216 + 216 + 36 + 36 + 12 - 1 = 947

Or...

(6 x 6 x 6) + (6 x 6 x 6) + (6 x 6 x 6) + (6 x 6 x 6) + (6 x 6) + (6 x 6) + (6 + 6) - (6 / 6) = 947.

A bit of a cop out, I know. But I like that you started with 6.

Number: 1024

Component: 9

Good luck.

(9*9*9) + (9*9) + (9*9) + (9*9) + (9*9) - (9+9+9) - (9/9) - (9/9)
The number of 9s I used is (9+9). Is that worth any bonus points? xD

Number: 493
Component: 4

Also, @Temaelrin did it in twenty. I can do it in eighteen (6+6+6):

(6-((6/6)+(6/6))*(6*6*6)) + ((6*6)*((6/6)+(6/6)+(6/6))) - (6/6)

Edit - Make that eight:
(6!) + (6*6*6) + (6+6) + (-6/6)

6! = 720
6*6*6 = 216 (936)
6+6 = 12 (948)
-6/6 = -1 (947)

So, two possible solutions, depending on if you allow concatenation. (Represented by "||", 4||4 = 44)

Allowed:

4||4||4 + 4||4 + 4 +(4/4) = 444+44+4+1 = 493 (Uses 7)

Not Allowed:

(4^(sqrt(4)) +4/4) × (4 × ( 4 + 4 - 4/4)+ 4/4) = 17 × 29 = 493 (Uses 11)

Number: 7919

Component: 7

Not answering yet, may later; just wanted to ask @Rucio a question relating to the game, because OP didn't technically specify.

Single digit, yes, but nowhere do you specify the method of use (or, more accurately, rule three is perhaps not specific enough in this case). So wouldn't something like (in above case)
7777 be acceptable as a start point, since it is still only made using sevens?

(7777+77+77) - (7+7) + ((7/7) + (7/7)) = 7919

If not, from how i understand concatenation (assuming I understand it correctly?):

((7| |7| |7| |7) + (7| |7) + (7| |7)) - (7+7) + ((7/7) + (7/7)) = 7919

Edit - Damn it, I used 7+7 7s in this one too... 🙃

Also, I cut down your 'not allowed' by one:

(44 + 44) - (4(sqrt4)) - (4/(sqrt4)) - (4/4)
