The Chest

No friggin clue what to make of this. It's assumed that it's got something to do with the definitely not reddit mascot Pokemon that recently started popping up in GO. 

The chest was closed about ten to twentyish minutes ago but it's begun to open.

I have two theories and I hope one is wrong. It does seem like the chest is going to be, or lead directly to, a pokemon. They've done this before, collect 100 cells to make a full strength Zygarde, and a treasure hunt to find all the coins scattered around Paldea to get a treasure chest pokemon would work. I mean, the whole premise of our adventure is a 'Treasure Hunt', so adding a pokemon that is a literal one in the game we go on a metaphorical one fits.

But they've also done something else similar, especially with the Go aspect.
Meltan and Melmetal.

Hopefully it's the former and not the latter.

I wonder if it's filling at x time and the counter is how many of those coin bug pokemon have been caught...

The Chest is now open and there is a video that will play, it is currently saying it is private so it may not be ready yet.

Actually, the Pokémon was revealed to be Gimmieghoul, a ghost type with a form in the treasure chest and one outside of the treasure chest!

I'm gonna get one of these little reddit looking bastards and name him Bit
