Three slender guys in bermuda shorts and unbuttoned short sleeved shirts were mounting surfboards onto an old van as Dylan approached.

The owner of the car, a long haired guy with a goatee and a red shirt met Dylan as the others continued loading.

"You look like you're having a good time, man."

He couldn't help but smile at the grin Dylan was wearing. He actually couldn't reckognize them as the strange emotionless person he'd seen wandering the town.

"You look fucked up enough that you probably need the help. Though you'll owe me, man."

He reached out a hand to shake Dylan's as to seal the deal.

He picked up his phone to check the time.

"Boys!"

He turned to the other two:

"We gotta take a little detour."

I mean, I guess he is right. Right?

They were in a hurry. These drugs might have been helping, to a degree. Dylan was being far more dominant than anything she might have expected but, more importantly, quite a bit more confident! They were on a mission, Selene's mission, and fully intended to see it through before the start of the party! She didn't have any qualms about that, encouraged it even despite her reluctance to stand out. Would she have moved this quickly if they were alone?

So hurried were their movements that Selene held her free hand atop her head, keeping the wide brimmed sun hat from toppling away. Occasionally Dylan was a little too eager and little too rough with his tugs against her arm, but thankfully the trip wasn't too far. Even so, by the time they'd exited the mall her heart rate had increased, her breathing had grown a faint bit heavier, and her thin sundress, already clingling faintly from the heat, held a little closer to her slim form. Not that she was out of shape or anything, Selene simply spent too much time reading and not enough time with sports.

As her taller companion came to a halt Selene found herself bumping a bit roughly into their back, face left bright pink for a few seconds while she scooted to a more respectable distance, or at least whatever she was allowed to while her limb was trapped.

Huh?

The flustered witch poked her head out from behind her new friend, offering the three boys a smile and a timid wave of her free hand. Thankfully she didn't need to ask for assistance. Dylan was already on the case! Although apparently they would owe the three for their assistance. Still, it would probably be worth it, right?

"T-thank you!"

Dylan is quick when he wants to be! Maybe I need to do more jogging and less walking on the beach.

The Hollow smiled broadly, imitating what they's seen people at the midway do when they got what they wanted. The took the driver's hand in their smooth, soft grip,

Dylan climbed into the van, pulling Selene after them as they settled in a seat behind the two surfers.

"Absolutely," Dylan agreed in their lilting, contratenor voice, "I owe you big."

As Selene sat down Dylan grabbed her thigh. They were aware of cars, understood how they worked, but had never ridden in one. High on X it was more exciting than frightening, but they didn't really know what to expect.

As the short trip to The Cabins progressed, Dylan began to settle down. "I can't wait to see Robin. Is there anyone going to the party that you're excited about?"

One more tug and Selene found herself pulled up and into the van, settling in next to Dylan. She had never ridden in such a large vehicle before! Not that it was particularly big when it came to vehicles in general, but she was used to being in a small car which could only really be expected to comfortably seat four, maybe five if three children were in the back. As it turned out vans looked to be bigger from the inside. Living out of one didn't seem so impossible.

Another streak of red crossed her face when a hand settled itself against the tender squishiness of her thigh, her surprised squeak only barely concealed between pursed lips. Eyes briefly lowered towards her friend's gripping digits, only to then raise to meet Dylan's gaze while he asked her about something that she had not really considered. Was there anyone that she was particularly excited to see at the party? Perhaps Charlotte, only because it would mean that the girl was located, and that perhaps Selene might have been the one to do so! If anything she was worried that Derek might be displeased at her appearance, at least given his earlier reaction to her presence.

"I don't really know" the witch answered softly, hat flopping against her shoulder as she leaned to the side and against Dylan's closest arm. "I guess I am just hoping to be included. It would be nice to make friends."

Oh. Right!

"Speaking of which, I do need to stop off at my place before we go to the party. I still need to change! You can change there too if you'd like."

It wasn't as though her parents would be around. Then again maybe that might have been better. The very thought of being alone at home with potentially a boy was both exciting and, in a way, terrifying!

The van stops by one of the many small houses in the cabins. The owner of the van, Shawn, was wrapping up a long story about the greatest waves he'd ever searched. He actually knew of Billy so knew where to go. He sadly didn't have the time to stick around. He had a party to go to and needed a proper shower.

The pair stood there, shaded by large pines, in front of a wooden cabin. There was a beaten up pickup parked up front.

A man stood out on the front patio in a black robe, leaning over the fence while smoking something.  He had long black hair and beard. It was the same shaggy guy Dylan had seen in his vision.

Moving closer the pair noticed his robe was open. He had nothing underneath. Billy was one of those guys whose equipment dangled low even when not in use, though despite being hidden behind a pinewood fence, it still drew quite some attention.

What did Dylan know about Billy? How does Selene react to seeing a half naked man? And had Selene ever been in The Cabins before?

Dylan offered the boys an joyfully trippy smile as they climbed out of the van, pausing to lean between the front seats and give Shawn's shoulder an earnest squeeze, "Seriously, I owe you. We really appreciate this."

Dylan stumbles getting out of the van, catches themself and giggles like a school girl as they steady themself on the van. As Selene starts to exit, Dylan offers her a hand, "Whoa - watch, 'Lene." They wished it was Robin, but it felt nice, being close to Selene. Not being afraid of her hands. She gave Selene a smile and cocked her head toward where Billy was smoking and gave Shawn and his friends a wave.

'SHIT!' they thought, 'I'm actually with a person. A friend. and some cool guys helped us...' Dylan wasn't sure what to make of it, but lead Selene towards Billy.

"Hey, Billy," they called and Billy turned around, surprised to hear his voice, Revealing his impressive cock as his robe fell open.

"Wow." They said. It wasn't new territory for the Hollow, but new context. One they didn't really know how to address. Part of them was afraid but The Makers' rules didn't apply. A glance at Selene offered no guidance. 'We'll get it some nice tackle.'

Why the memory came spilling back, Dylan couldn't fathom. "Uh, nice tackle." they said pointing.

The drugs were addling their brain and Dylan shook her head, offering Billy an apologetic smile. "Hey, Billy," they repeated, "I've seen you around the midway, working and sometimes Charlotte comes to see you. We're looking for her. We're friends with her sister, and Robin's worried about her. Have you seen her?"

Billy blew out a breathful of smoke, before leaning his head back, shifting his weight which previously was on the railing to the back of his feet. He straightened himself before calmly commenting:

"Didn't know Charlie had a sister, thought her family didn't give a fuck."

He chuckled to himself.

Behind Dylan and Selene they could hear the truck take off, Shawn and his friends left to do whatever they had originally planned.

Billy pointed with his thumb behind himself.

"She should be in the bedroom. Not sure if she's awake. She said she wanted to going to this fuckwad rich boy's party so she might be getting ready."

At last he took a moment to look at his guests before shooting Selene a look and cracking a smile.

These guys are pretty nice! Usually you would need to pay for a ride with strangers, right?

With all the awe and excitement of riding inside of a van Selene found the trip taking much less time than expected! But then Potter's Neck also wasn't a very large place. At least, it didn't seem as though it was. Selene rarely ventured outside of her hometown, and certainly not out into this area. The wooded region was a bit pretty to look at, and she could imagine herself in a cabin out here. Alone. Spending hours or even days lost in a book or two.

Their short trip was also helped by Shawn's lengthy story about riding surf boards! She had seen people partake of that sport. It was dangerous enough that her parents, especially her father, never really allowed her to give it a try. Perhaps someday she might, especially now that she was reaching that age when people moved out of their family homes. Her father was keen to let her stay, to have her live with him for as long as she liked, and while it did sound comfortable she also understood that it wasn't really plausible. She wanted to see the world, to visit some of the places in her books!

When they arrived Dylan reached up to thank their very helpful driver. "Thank you Shawn!" she added, her mind finally calmed and her mood quite chipper now that they were potentially getting close to the completion of her objective! After exting the vehicle Dylan offered a hand, and even a shortened version of her name! A nickname, as it were! It wasn't even a cruel one! And so with an excited nod Selene reached her hand out to take hold of Dylan's, carefully scooting out and to her feet!

Today is starting to look u- is he naked?

Selene's gaze had drifted upon her exit, taking in her surroundings and, most importantly, the wood cabin that was their destination. There on the patio stood a man in nothing but an open robe. Beneath it he appeared to be completely naked. No effort was made to conceal anything. Naturally her gaze followed the line of skin centered between black fabric flaps, and when it reached what should have been covered it halted. Lingered. With each passing moment her pale cheeks gained an ever brighter shade of pink, and this heat spread across the entirety of her face.

That's a penis. A real live penis. Gosh. It's bigger than I thought it would be.

Heart hammering within her chest the small witch tightened her grip upon Dylan's hand, fingers nervously squeezing and brushing against her friend's digits. She knew what it was, of course. She understood what it was used for. She had seen the pictures during classes, had even once allowed her curiosity to wander towards other less educational texts and pictures regarding such subject matter. Knew of it. But to see it in person? That was new to her!

When her companion mentioned tackle her gaze finally snapped away from the dangling flesh, briefly glancing up with a slight tilt of her noggin. Whatever joke had been made flew right over her head. However his pointing finger only resulted in her gaze being sent right on back to where it had only recently been captured. There it lingered again for an uncomfortable half minute.

It's still there. He isn't even trying to cover it up!

With a few forced blinks of her lids Selene focused her deep purple eyes upwards, locking with those of the man named Billy. His smile was returned in kind, although her own was nervous and her expression confused and curious and shocked and maybe a little excited at the prospect of their journey finally having ended. "O-oh! Charlotte is going to the party too?" she blurted out, clearing her throat a moment later in the hopes that it might excuse what she might have considered to be rude. "I'm Selene. Hello!"

Billy's home was small. A small sofa with a coffee table housing a bong and a half-eaten bowl of chips. A TV with the spotify app open playing some hiphop music.

There was a door open leading into to Billy's bedroom. Upon calling Charlotte's name Dylan could hear a quiet groan from the bed. Peeking into the bedroom Dylan could see a dark-haired girl in a large t-shirt face down on the bed. She was bottomless with her legs spread. There was a large wet stain between her legs.

Billy put a hand on Selene's shoulder as she passed. Hard enough to make her stop. Kinda spinning her to face him. He smelled strongly of weed and sweat. He was leaning backwards so his forwardmost feature was his dick.

With an absurd amount of confidence he asked:

"You only here for Charlie, or have you come to try some Billy too."

He smirked while wiggling his hips, keeping eye-contact through the entire thing.

Dylan stopped at the open door, suddenly painfully aware Selene wasn't beside her. They'd been too high, too excited about finding Charlotte for Robin and Selene, and now Selene was faced with a demand that Dylan knew well.

"Charlotte," they repeated, more loudly, "time to get ready for the party." They urged as they turned back to Billy.

Dylan let their hips roll as they crossed the distance between them. It was old ground, being told to walk this way, to peel back their clothes. No because Dylan wanted to, but because someone wanted them too. The act itself was strangely comforting, but doing it by choice was terrifying.

They pursed their lips as they drew close to the pair, "I'd like to try, Billy," they said, reaching for his prodigious member.

Spoiler

Dylan, rolled 4 using 2d6+1 ((2,1)).

Even if I still have the +1 forward from gazing into the abyss, Dylan is distinctly  UNfucked.

Billy grabbed Dylan's chin to force eye contact. His stare was intense, focused, almost overpowering. Did Billy really want Dylan? Did Dylan really want some Billy? Dylan was at least convincing to themselves.

"Oh you want some Billy?"

Spoiler

Billy's gonna get a string on Dylan and instantly spend it.

Billy then pushed Dylan to the ground. Despite being very lanky, he was still much taller them. His intense stare had turned into look of disgust.

"You'd think I'd fuck a freak like you!?"

He turned to face the house.

"Charlie, your freak friends are here pick you up. Get your slutty ass out here now."

He sounded angry. As he was about to walk in there the drag her out.

Dylan get a condition, let's call it "freak".

Dylan spun to the ground landing hard. Confusion rattled with drugs in their skull. He'd wanted to be pleasured, that's how it always was. Sometimes it hurts, but not like this.

Their fists knotted into balls of rage and tears streamed down their face. It was easier when they knew.

Freak.

Dylan pushed themself to their knees in the dirt, crumpled and disoriented. The drugs no longer felt good and the terrible visions welled up.

Spoiler

Do I need to roll keep cool to embrace the condition?

Was she okay? Of course she was! It was just a penis, after all! A living, twitching penis! Heck it wasn't even that close! Growing closer perhaps, what with their moving closer to the cabin, but even still! If she couldn't handle it from afar then how was she ever going to do so up close?

"Uh huh."

Not a very confident reply, and she was forcing her eyes to focus upon Billy's face now. It was a much safer place to look. "I-it's just, I've never really seen one. In person, I mean."

Selene was smart enough to stick close to Dylan. They knew what they were doing. Were familiar with this very inappropriate person. Despite the house's size she almost felt as though she could get lost within if she wasn't careful, even though she knew that wasn't really true. Besides Dylan's presence offered her at least some comfort! They probably weren't going to do anything with Dylan around. No, they would pop inside, grab Charlotte, and then depart for the party! Or, rather, her home first. At least for her. She still needed to change.

Something strong gripped upon her dainty shoulder, resulting in the slipping free of a surprised squeak, as well as a jolting twitch of her body! Her companion didn't even notice, so focused upon their task with mind addled by drugs, and she felt Dylan's fingers slip free from her grip, leaving her for the moment alone with the taller mostly naked male. With ease she was spun to face him, eyes natually darting downwards due to her innate introverted nature. It was a mistake.

It's even bigger up close!

Red returned to her face and heart thumped rapidly within her ears. The way that Billy stood placed it even closer to her body. Hands settled together over her crotch, fingers nervously playing with one another. Not much separated her from the slumbering serpent. A thin sundress. Underwear. Both clung close to her thanks to the heat, and the situation didn't make things much better.

His question, and the resulting wiggle of his hips, was enough to snap her out of her moment of weakness. Eyes darted upwards to meet with Billy's gaze, her smiling expression wrecked by nervous energy. "I've n-never really tried drugs." Not that he was asking that, but for a brief moment her mind tried to ignore the true meaning behind his words.

"O-or, um, this sort of thing."

Thankfully Dylan noticed that they had been separated! Unfortunately they didn't really seem to make things any better. An attempt was made seemingly to push things even further! For a moment things looked as though they might actually turn for the lewd, only for Billy to then suddenly snap and push Dylan to the ground.

For a moment she froze up. She had been pushed around before. It wasn't a very fun experience. Now her companion was being pushed around! She needed to act, right? That is what a friend would do! Selene was not one for conflict, and seeing Billy get upset she decided to try to alleviate that issue first.

A hand reached out to take Billy's, to stop him and pull him close. It was clear what might help to at least calm the situation. Maybe Selene wasn't used to seduction, but she could make an attempt! That sort of thing might calm him down, after all!

She aimed to pull his arm close to her body, only to remember the close contact with Billy's crotch which might occur if she did! Fingers nervously squeezed at the man's hand as she bumped into him. Her gaze snapped down to make sure they weren't touching, and then up to Billy's face. She tried to push her chest out, only to remember that there wasn't really much to show off. All confidence melted away from her in the moment, hands releasing their grip and instead taking hold of her dress.

"A-ah! U-um. Sorry!"

Spoiler

Attempted to Turn On Billy in the hopes of calming him down! Mostly because she is non-combative at the moment and shutting down felt like something an upset Selene might do. Rolled a 1 and a 1, making a total of 3. Big oof! Marking experience.

"Lene," Dylan called desperately, "don't. He's right." They knelt in the rough gravel, knees scraped and legs akimbo behind them. "I am a freak."

The pain in Dylan's knees and bleeding palms was welcome, understandable. It was real, clear and its cause was easy to see.

They stood up slowly, head down. Dylan couldn't decide what to do. It would really be best if they left, just went back to the lab and waited. But they couldn't leave Selene. And what about Robin?

"Leave her, Billy." Dylan begged, "You can do whatever you want to me - I can take it."

As Selene moved close to Billy, his fury got the best of him. With the back of his hand he slapped Selene. If it was a closed fist she'd likely been knocked out from that hit. It stung.

Spoiler

That is one harm on Selene.

He then turned down to look at Dylan. He was about mutter something foul at them as he looked to see Charlotte in the doorway to the bedroom.

"Stop it, Billy!"

She yelled as she tossed an empty beer bottle at him. It struck him in the head hard enough to leave a bruise before falling to the floor, miraculously unshattered.

"Fucking freaks all of you."

He took off in his truck to cool down.

Charlotte walked into the room to check on Selene. In a still groggy voice she said

"Sorry, he's got a bit on a temper since he started with this meth thing."

In a more diplomatic tone she said:

"I know where he keeps his supply if you want to buy."

Perhaps she should have listened to Dylan. Heeded their warning. Not the freak part, because she didn't really think that it was true, but the part about stopping? Dylan knew better than she did.

Billy's reaction to her approach was both unexpected and, due to this, far too quick for her to react to. A single loud slap of flesh against flesh instantly gave way to sharp ringing and a searing heat across her face. Selene wasn't very strong, at least not physically, and found herself off balance from the strike, stumbling until she thankfully managed to get a blind grip against a nearby chair. It was enough to keep her on her feet, to recover at least enough that she could remain standing.

Tears welled up within her eyes, blurring her vision, both from the shock and the pain. She kept her head down to protect herself from another anticipated blow, but also out of shame. Shame for her tears. Shame for her failure to help Dylan. Shame for her crumbling confidence. Selene didn't want to look at anyone, nor did she want anyone looking at her. Failing this badly, let alone getting hit for it, was not something that she was used to.

I don't think he is a nice person.

His words stung almost as sharply as the slap. It wasn't the first time that she had been called a freak, but paired with the physical assault? That hurt quite a bit. It was not something that she could get used to, but given the reactions today that others had to Dylan, she had to imagine that they were far more used to it. Or, at least, more familiar with it. Dylan was certainly stronger than she was.

As footsteps approached Selene lifted an arm, wiping it across her face. It helped to clear tears, to dull the pain in her face if even just a little bit, but most importantly it kept her hidden. All she wanted to do in the moment was curl up in her secret spot and be alone. Unfortunately that wasn't possible. There were things to do and she did not know any sort of hex that might allow her to simply teleport away from where she was now.

With a sniffle and a hushed whimper the witch rubbed her face with her arm, cleared away what she could, and then lowered it to her side. "I-it's okay" she lied, mostly to herself. Charlotte's words were enough to cheer her up somewhat, as her presence meant that they had at least been successful. They had located her, and she was safe!

And now she was offering to sell them drugs. Probably. It wasn't really anything that she expected. She lifted her gaze to meet with Charlotte's, eyes blinking in order to clear away more of the tears that were trying to form. The ringing was starting to clear away. Something urged her to go with. Not to look at drugs, but to look for something that she could take. Something belonging to Billy. For the moment she resisted, if only for Charlotte's sake. She didn't want to steal something and get her into trouble for it.

"I've never done drugs" Selene replied, a hint ashamed at the answer. Both Charlotte and Dylan had. Was she the only one who hadn't? Would there be drugs at the party?

At the moment she could focus on other things. A slight smile returned to her lips. "I'm glad to see you are okay though. Robin was worried about you."

As Billy sped off Dylan was glad they hadn't run away. Instead they hurried to Selene's side. They reached to touch the smaller woman but stopped short. The freak label strong in their mind and uncertain if they would get it on Selene.

"Lene," they began, voice shaking and hand trembling, "I- I- I'm sorry. That was my fault. I should go - "

At Charlotte's offer of meth,  Dylan cut themself off and looked over their shoulder to the lot Billy had just sped away from.

"Seems to make people mean. Maybe not so good for a party, but I could use some. I can't pay you though."

Dylan turned to the door and headed out, "Tell Robin I'm sorry."

She lets out an exasperated sigh and puts her hands on her hips. She didn't have time to put on any bottoms, though her oversized shirt covered her well enough.

"Robin sent you!? I can't believe it. I've been sleeping over at Billy's. It no big deal."

After another dramatic sigh she says:

"I need clean clothes anyways."

She heads into the bedroom to get dressed. There was a bus leaving in a little bit and she didn't really want to stick around until Billy returned. She hated it when he was grumpy. After changing she again apologized to Selene

"Again I'm sorry. He's not always like that."

Go?

Selene's attention turned towards Dylan. She had mostly managed to wipe away the tears by the time she'd faced them. Somehow they looked to be in even worse condition than she was, and for some reason the sight of her companion's trembling hand stabbed at her heart with guilt. If she had not asked Dylan to join her then things might not have turned out so poorly for them. Her greed for more friends had caused this, at least to some degree.

"It's not" she whispered, taking a moment then to clear her throat before speaking again with the tiny shred of confidence remaining within her body. "It's not your fault, Dylan. I really appreciate what you've done for me."

Meth was not something to mess with. Her books had made that clear, at least the very few times it was referenced. Why Dylan wanted any of that stuff was a mystery to her, but at the moment she was too worn down mentally to pursue her curiosity. Besides, Dylan deserved some privacy after everything they'd gone through.

Sorry?

With a confused wave Selene bid her companion farewell. "Um. I hope to see you at the party!" she added before turning her attention back towards Charlotte. The almost naked Charlotte. A hint of pink returned to her face, but she was still a bit out of it following the slap, and it was enough to at least let her focus on other tings in the moment. Not that she didn't take a brief glance over the girl's form, her curiosity was still quite the powerful force, but one could misconstrue it for a reaction following Charlotte's mention of needing new clothes.

For a few moments Selene awkwardly waited, letting Charlotte get herself dressed. Dark orbs darted about the room, seeking out any item that might have belonged to Billy, anything important enough, small enough, and close enough that she might be able to snatch it up without being noticed. Something deep within her urged her to repay Billy for the words he'd levied upon her new possible friend. Fingers nervously rubbed together within clasped hands as she did her very best to ignore those thoughts.

When Charlotte returned and offered an apology Selene, who had by now mostly calmed down, managed to put on a smile. "It is okay. You didn't do anything wrong. And Robin was just worried. I think that is normal for family. Not that I have a sibling myself."

Billy was in the wrong. But she understood that it was possible to feel guilty by association. "It's just the drugs anyways, right? A-and he didn't really hurt me that much. It's okay."

If nothing else she could at least try to convince herself that he wasn't a terrible person, the sort of person she didn't mind hexing.

"I should go though. I need to get ready for the party too. We can go together if you'd like, I just need to stop at home really quick to change!"

TW: Self harm

I'm not sure how Dylan ended up their darkest self here, but it's where we are, I guess.

Dylan slunk home, consumed by their inability to act like a normal person. Billy was right. Freak.

They wanted to see Robin, but freaks don't go to parties. They wait in basements until the people who have uses for them show up and give them purpose and value.

The shadows were lengthening as the sun dropped slowly toward the horizon, sating the light orange and washing the tree line road to the empty house in amber. Dylan felt like an insect preserved in that amber - a creature, not quite dead, but frozen, waiting for -

'What?' they asked themself as they climbed the weather beaten wooden stairs. Dylan regarding the faded, peeling paint of the door and smiled. 'For someone to have some use for you.' The door pleased them - it was beaten, worn and stuck rather than locked, Perfect house for a freak.

They forced it open, dropped their bag of new clothes on the floor and wrestled the door closed behind them before disappearing down the stairs to the quiet dark of the basement. There were more of them stored in drawers. They never moved. Each slightly different, but all wore Dylan's face. They pulled open the drawer and thought about getting in but didn't.

Instead, they took another eXstasy and sat on the work bench and started playing with a chisel -stabbing it into the bench between her outstretched fingers. Eventually, they'd miss and the hurt would make sense again.

The camera cut to a car tire stopping on a gravel road as the chisel hits the board.

There's an awkward tension in Velvet's car. Their blushed faces matched the warm colour of the sky as the sun set. Despite all this the Ascar Manor looked dark and menacing. It's refurbished, but still looks like an old colonial building. It overlooked the east side of the island: play land and the most popular beaches. Yet it was kinda distant being built it the heights. It was strangely visible, yet it didn't demand any attention.

A couple of expensive black cars are parked outside, business assosicate of Mr. Ascar were often visiting as the man itself did not like to travel.

As Velvet stepped out of the car. She could already see the crowds and light gathering by Derek's beach house, far down thr hill. And she could hear the low beat of the bass from the music.

Had Robin ever noticed the old manor on the hill? There's an odd appeal to the building, why does Robin find it appealing?

Edited by roll to seduce

As Velvet's pink jeep jangled over the rougher roads of the hill, Robin's fingers tugged at the zipper of the white micro-jacket Velvet had picked out for her. Her exposed legs felt strange against the bare seat, tingly and naked in a way she still wasn't used to.

She tried to speak, but each time, she felt the uncertainty of the new situation choke her. Was it rude to ask what Velvet needed to pick up? Her friend hadn't volunteered the information, and there was a tension in the air that whispered to Robin that it was something uncomfortable—a tension that made her already disorganized thoughts feel even more scattered.

Maybe she's on some kind of medication and just doesn't want to get into it? I mean, I really shouldn't pry, right? Does she live up here? I want to hold her hand. Is it weird if I try to hold her hand while she's driving? What are we? I liked kissing Velvet, but I still can't get Derek... or Dylan... out of my mind... Why is this so confusing?

This last thought came as the jeep rounded a curve in the road and revealed the pulsing lights of Derek's beach house party, the smaller glimmer of his pool feeling like a droplet next to the vast, dark wash of the sea beyond. But it was soon pushed aside as the car slipped into park.

And on the other side sat the colonial manor house.

"I've seen this place from below," Robin said, her voice coming out half-a-whisper though she couldn't say why. "I see it when I walk home from Playland. I didn't know anyone actually lived up here though. Is-Is this your house?" Robin asked, hurriedly adding, "It's... um, lovely. Dignified." In truth, there was something about the place that reminded her of the old wooden churches back home, not the modern ones her family had always attended... the ones on backroads and old rural routes... the kind that sat so dark and lonely that their services may have only been attended by ghosts listening to the echoes of sermons that were no longer spoken.

It reminded her of the house Dylan lived in all alone—maybe that's why she was drawn to it. It made her think of Dylan again, his dark eyes full of mystery and longing. But where his home had the quiet, dead feeling of an empty shell, the silent colonial house did not seem quite deceased.

No, it felt to Robin like it was holding its breath, lying in wait... watching her through dark windows.

"Sh-should I wait here for you?" Robin asked, swallowing, her pale eyes never leaving the home's facade as she quietly asked the question.
