The Twin Angels

Recommended Posts

The large, bulky train chugged along the desolate landscape, passing by jagged cliffs that reached towards the heavens and deep chasms that delved deep into the earth. Dark, looming trees looming over the tracks seemed to almost be stretching their branches towards the tracks, as if the forest itself wanted to reach out and snag the passengers that were onboard. The landscape bore the scars of battles, plagues, and all the ill will that mankind had been able to muster up. Outside of the armored carriages that the locomotive was pulling, only an ominous feeling of doom existed.

The train itself was a different matter though, and the cozy carriages stood in stark contrast to the gloom that they passed by outside. Luxurious and somewhat decadent, the walls were clad in red wood paneling and dark metal that had beautiful intricate patterns of flowers and symbols carved and painted into them, giving the inside a feeling of warmth and safety. Thirty carriages, each carriage housing six compartments, the train was packed with young people.

Now, while trains were the main mode of transportation in the world, they were not usually this full. Traveling between the small towns or even into the large cities was something that was only done if you had business there. Of course, this was something that only applied to normal citizens. The powerful and influential lived an entirely different sort of life. Yes, even in this new world, with war having torn the land asunder less than three hundred years prior, society as it were had recouped. Maybe just as a bleak mockery of what had once been, but to the people that lived in this world, it was the only life they knew. It was not bad; it was normal....

Two of the students on the train happened to be twins Anna and Avery Scalia. They had been riding on the train for what felt like forever. Anne who was sat on the window side of their seat would look around at all the sights they passed by from the small towns like the one they had grown up in to the large buildings of the cities to the almost sad but calming desolate wastelands.

Both were nervous about what to expect at their new school. Anna was always the shy and quiet type. She was nervous almost all the time, always had a hard time making friends but clung to her brother, her safety net, the one who she saw as a protector. She was happy to be going on this journey with him by her side and not just by herself.

Avery on the other hand was nervous as well but not for the same reasons as Anna. Avery despite how he looked was not a girl, in fact he was a boy. His hair was long and flowed down his back and his facial features looked feminine, he even wore lip gloss and some level of makeup though the only think that looked remotely masculine about him was his uniform. He looked like a girl wearing a boy’s uniform. He hated it. He would much rather wear what her sister was wearing. He placed no blame on the school either, when he said his gender was male they had sent him the male uniform, he would have to explain it later when he got to school and try to get the uniform he wanted. He was nervous about what to expect at this new academy. How would people see him? How would he be treated? Would there be others like him there as well? He just hoped everything went well. He was once fun and bubbly and this personality even carried on when he transitioned to being more feminine though with this change he would develop a much more colder side to anyone other than his sister. He didn’t talk much to anyone due to this and because of it he too didn’t have much friends, instead choosing to push everyone away. Before he would have cared an awful lot about what people thought about him, he still did to a degree but these days it did not bother him all that much.

Looking over at Anna, Avery would catch himself on the verge of smiling. Part of him felt the same as she saw him, as her protector, maybe it was his brotherly instincts, still there, lingering in a way. The only person the siblings could really rely on was each other. Their bond was strong. They would look after each other and always be there for the other no matter what.

As the train ride continued, the siblings would find it increasing difficult to pass the time. They would talk with each other, play road games like eye spy, they would sleep and rest at times, eat food from the many food carts that moved up and down the train halls as well. Avery would read books to himself silently while Anna would stare out the window at the many landscapes they passed by and occasionally would take out her sketchpad and start drawing and doodling silently to pass the time more.

After a time some other students would join them, sitting across from them though Anna was too shy to say anything and Avery would just glare coldly at them. They looked prim and proper as well  and their luggage looked expensive, no doubt they were from one of the big cities, another reason for Avery to not like them. Would they look down on him and his sister for being from a small town? He hates people like that. Hopefully they would be arriving soon. Both of the twins didn’t know how much longer they would be able to last on the train.

The train continued on its voyage, the locomotive pulling its long and heavy weight along winding tracks and dark landscapes. The outside might have had an atmosphere of dread with its gloomy trees and dark mountain peaks, but it was nevertheless a rather breathtaking scenery. Having lived in a small town their entire lives, this was the first time the twins had truly left their home. On a journey to find a new place that they would be calling home for the next couple of years, they were entering a new chapter of their lives.

Their two co-passengers that they now shared their compartment with were two girls, a year younger than the twins, and despite coming from one of the large cities, they were still very naive and easily impressed by what was happening around them. They might have been from some pretty and affluent families, but this was still the first time that they had ever traveled alone. Their initial impression of the twins had, sadly, not been very good. Mistaking Avery for a girl, they had tried to approach him and start a conversation, but they had soon stopped trying to talk to the twins and decided to ignore them. Maybe things would have been different if Avery had not been so guarded or his sister had been so shy?

The long trek across the UNA finally neared its end as the armored train passed through the mountain chasm and over a large bridge that ran across a large gorge that reached deep into the earth. Crossing that bridge, the train entered through what looked like a natural tunnel in one of the mountains, and there was complete darkness outside, which was broken up with a blinding light as the train emerged on the other side. Unlike the dreary, scarred landscape the train had passed through, the landscape that was revealed to the twins was beautiful. Large, lush trees of a brighter green and beautiful, magnificent buildings rose before them as the train slowly pulled to a stop in front of a white building that could only be the train station.

Avery didn’t seem to mind that the girls across from them began to ignore them. He wanted nothing to do with them and would try to ignore their presence as well. Anna on the other hand was a bit disappointed. The girl looked cute and nice. She would have wanted to be friends with them. She wanted to talk to them but her shyness got in the way and she just didn’t find it in herself to approach them.

As the train crossed the gorge and emerged from the tunnel, a gasp was heard by Anna. Her eyes would widen and a big smile would form on her face as she looked at the beautiful scenery, taking it all in until the train finally stopped at the station. Avery would hear the notice on the intercom, knowing they didn’t have much time. He would stand up and stretch after the long ride and the two would gather their bags before making their way out of the train.

It was a struggle both getting if the train and now outside of it as students pushed and rushed past. The twins would take each other’s hands tightly so that they would not be separated in the commotion.  They would follow instructions and wait in a line to board the trolly. They would see it stop and leave the station, moving up in the line each time until finally they had boarded.

Avery let Anne sit at the end of one of the seats while he sat next to her, in between her and whomever sat next to them. They were lucky to get a seat as he watched various other students pile into the trolley, filling it to the brim before it finally started moving. With a sigh he hoped for the best. Soon enough they would be at the academy, starting their new lives there.

Packed like sardines, the new students were ferried for a good five minutes, passing by large, beautiful buildings and exquisite greenery before stopping in front of a large, six-meter-high archway. Having no other choice but to climb off and leave the trolley, the twins and all the other kids were herded under the arch and into a large courtyard where two long lines were being formed outside of two large gates. Each gate led into a long, wide corridor that led into a reception room where the lines split up and students had to queue in front of one of two reception desks. As beautiful as the building was, the sheer number of people made it difficult to appreciate the architecture.

The surroundings weren't the only beautiful things found at the academy, though. While the buildings and foliage were indeed impressive, the students themselves generally all seemed to be above standard as far as looks went. Anna and her brother had always been better-looking than everyone else their age in the town they lived in, but at this academy, they finally didn't stick out all that much anymore. This was an academy created for the absolute elite. Even though each grade had at least seven hundred students, since people from all over the world were enrolled at the school, you really had to be excellent. This was a school for the rich and powerful as well as politically connected, but just these things alone did not necessarily ensure you a spot at the school. Beauty, intelligence, and even your Mana could all play a role. Naturally, this meant that, due to the competition, some years it was more difficult to join than others.

The twins could be said to be rather lucky. While exceptionally beautiful and of high intelligence, they had not been from an important family. As such, while other schools would have jumped at a chance to enroll them, the twins, like so many other kids, had been placed as reserves for the Ryouseiku Academy. They hadn't been accepted as 1st years, but since some students had been relegated or just disappeared, there had been openings, and they had been accepted now.

As they got off the train, the twins would continue to hold hands for safety and fear of being separated and would both join a line. Avery sighed to himself and hoped that soon he would get to talk with someone and get this whole uniform situation sorted out. It really did feel comfortable.

Anne would look around in wonder and awe, trying to take in the scenery but the number of students as well as the chattering from several did make it a little hard to appreciate, from what she saw however it looked very beautiful. Avery would not pay any of the other students any mind but Anna would. She would see several girls so caught her eye. They looked beautiful to her eyes and she wouldn’t mind being friends if even more with several of them. Her shyness was always a factor when approaching people but lately she was getting frustrated. She couldn’t keep letting it get in the way. Maybe this academy would help her in a way with getting over it. She hoped to get the opportunity to meet lots of new and nice people.

The two queues slowly shrank as the school staff waiting in the courtyard nudged the new students to enter through the large gates in file. Advancing through a long, bright, gold-decorated corridor, the twins found themselves in a large hall with a gilded dome-shaped ceiling. Queuing in another line, they finally arrived in front of one of the two registration desks, where a young man who looked to be in his early twenties sat behind a glass window. Long black hair kept in a ponytail, the young man had piercing blue eyes, and rather tan skin. Meeting Avery's eyes as the young teenage boy made it up the window, he smiled warmly at him. While a bit older, the guy did not come up short among all the beautiful students and was very good-looking himself. An alumni of the school himself, like a lot of other students that had already graduated, he had decided to stay at the school a little longer and had applied as staff at the campus.

"Please say your name while placing your hands on the desk in front of you." He instructed the twin, gesturing towards a stretch of desk that was outside of the window. Sitting himself, even though he was taller than the twin, he still had to look up as he spoke because everyone outside was standing. In stark contrast to the cool atmosphere Avery had, the young man gave a strong impression of warmth and safety. Having a cold expression wasn't necessarily a bad thing, though, and it only seemed to give Avery a stronger allure. A year older than the other new students, while some at first glance mistook him for another girl, a lot of the female students definitely liked what they saw. The male uniform might not have been feminine, but it was still high quality and seriously flattered the twins slim build. The red belt accentuated his waist nicely, and the gold trim decoration that ran down along the lines of his black pants made his legs look longer.

“Whoa….” Anna would gasp as she looked around the hallways and the corridor they had found themselves in. It was very spacious and beautiful. Things had seemed to quiet down a bit though there was still a bit of chattering. As they arrived at the front of the line, Anna would watch Avery be called to desks, wishing she could have gone with him. Trying to hold onto his hand for just a little longer until they had to inevitably let go. He began to feel nervous being separated from her brother briefly but knew she would get to see him after.

As Avery made his way to the desk, he would see and feel the glances of girls on him but shrugged them off. He didn’t care if people looked at him or found him attractive or not. Anna would notice the glances as well. She would blush a little to see her brother getting so much attention. Part of her felt jealous, not just because he wished that some of the girls would look at her that way too but also because part of her didn’t want them to stare at her brother.

Avery looked down at the man sat on the other side of the window. He seemed nice though Avery’s expression remained cold as he looked down at the desk he was instructed to place his hands on. Why did he have to do that? Was it some sort of magic or a way to make him look more proper? Without verbal question he would place his hands onto the table and spoke, “Avery Scalia,” in his cold, low voice.

Avery only felt a warm tingle as the magic placed on the stone desk activated, but on his end of the glass, the alumni saw the twins information show up on the window. Written in glowing blue text, everything from age and height to some of the more private information was listed. The young man nodded, taking a little extra time to read through all the information so that he could spend a little bit longer having the boy stand in front of him. The former student wasn't really bisexual or anything, but he could still appreciate beauty when he saw it. To put it bluntly, he wouldn't mind tapping the redhead if he had a chance. Scratch that, the boy had a twin sister? A threesome would be even better.

"Your homeroom will be in lecture hall 2E, located on the second floor of the west wing." He explained, pressing a symbol on the window in front of him and making the data he was looking at disappear from his view. Seducing any of the new students would have to wait, though. They were all going to be protected by the school regulations for the next two weeks, and while rules were made to be broken, he didn't really want to chance it now that he wasn't even a student himself anymore.

"Please walk out on your right, where staff will instruct you further and explain where you have to go." he finished, offering the twin another friendly smile as he gestured to the door. They were already in the west wing, so it shouldn't prove too much of a hassle. As Avery and his sister would quickly learn, however, they would have to memorize the outlay of a lot of buildings if they wanted to actually make it in time for their classes. Avery had not had a chance to ask about the school uniform, though, and now he was already expected to hurry along so that his sister behind him could announce herself at the registry too.

Avery would feel the magical tingled on his hands and looked across at the man. He would see the words emerge in the window but how him it was backwards and also a little blurry to make out. He continued to stand there as the man read over his information. He would grow a little impatient as well, wondering if the other man was deliberately reading slow until finally he was finished and even the home room number. Before he could ask about his uniform he was already being ushered off and sighed a little. He would have to make do with this one for now it seemed.

Before leaving, he would shoot a glance at Anna to make sure she was alright. He would wait for her if he could. There was a strong chance that they would end up in the same class together which would make the walk to the class a much simpler one. He then headed through the door to receive the instructions from the staff while it was time for her sister’s turn to be registered.

While Avery was being given instructions on how to get to his homeroom by the staff waiting outside of the door, Anna was faced with the same process her brother had just been put through. Looking up at her from where he was sitting, the former student of the Ryouseiku Academy treated her with a warm smile, noting how shy she seemed. Despite having a different hair color, he could clearly see that she was Avery's sister. She was cute, but despite looking so much like her twin, she had a very different air about her. He just couldn't decide which one he liked better. While it should have been easy, seeing as how he wasn't interested in guys, it just wasn't that simple. Maybe if he had them both in his bed, he could figure it out? Or maybe that would only make things even harder.

"Please place your hands on the desk in front of you and state your full name." he told her, waiting for the young girl to follow his instructions. Were either of them virgins? If he had to hazard a guess, he would say both were, but you could never be sure about these things. Not that he really cared. While it might be fun to break a virgin in, it wasn't a deal-breaker for him. To some guys, it really was extremely important, though.

Anna was next to see the former student. She walked up to the desk nervously and looked over at the man. He seemed nice and was giving her a calm and safe vibe. It helped with her shyness. She did not know about the things he was thinking about her and her brother though, things that would probably unsettle her a little if she knew.

She would nod softly and raised her hands up to the desk and placed then down saying, “A-Anna Scalia.” She stuttered a little but said her name clearly and confidently. She wanted to hurry and catch up to her brother. She hoped he would have waited for her. She couldn’t help being separated for so long, but with this school, would separation become more common possibly if the two made new friends? Possibly, but for now she just needed her brother.

Blue, gleaming text appeared on the other side of the window again, allowing the young man to read Anna's information, some of which probably would have embarrassed her. Quickly reading through her file, she seemed like a normal enough girl and would probably fit in fine at the academy as soon as she had acclimatized properly. A girl like her just had to be broken in properly, and she'd jump between guys like a butterfly did between flowers. Both of the twins had good enough grades, but looks actually held more value at the academy. Intelligent people could be used, but beautiful people could be enjoyed.

"Okay. You saw the door your brother just went through? You have been assigned to Assembly Hall 2E. Please use the same exit and follow the directions you will be given there." He told her, his smile never wavering. He shouldn't be thinking about what he wanted to do to the twins. There were still over a hundred new students left he had to process, and while his boner wasn't visible to anyone standing outside the window, the swelling in his pants made it difficult to concentrate on his work. What a hassle. If he chanced upon the two siblings when their protection period was over, he'd have them take responsibility for giving him blueballs. It was only fair, after all.

Anna nodded softly at the man and thanked him softly. With that she would then leave through the door her brother did. Once there she would receive the same information her brother had before and soon she was in the hallways. Once in the halls, Anna would see various students walking around and talking with each other. She felt so out of place and wanted to disappear but then suddenly she would spot a familiar face, her brother sat on her bench waiting for her.

A big smile would form on her face as she came skipping up to him. Avery would look up at her and finally stood up and said, “good you’re here, let’s go.” He compared information with her and nodded as they discovered that they did in fact have the same homeroom. He then began to lead the way saying, “the lady told me that we’re in the same building which is good, it won’t take us long but then again… he have to find the room first. She gave me some instructions,” he said turning some corners, “just be on the lookout for the room number.”

After walking for a couple more minutes, they would finally find the room. Looking in they would see the room already packed. Avery was ready to enter though Anna immediately felt her sigh and nervous nature coming to affect het and began to tense up a little. Avery would notice this and took her hand, easing her a little, “it’ll be fine,” she told her and soon entered with her together.

A man in his upper 30s, Eichi Kaneko, stepped into the middle of the classroom.  Looking over the mostly familiar faces.  He was aware he was receiving two new students students today.  Had been given some of the basic information about them.  It did not take to long to find them, the only two new faces in the room.  The class quieted down, as it always did, when he entered the room.  These were not, mostly, new students.  Still, he cleared his thoat before speaking.  "Welcome.  Before we start the class, as some of you may have noticed, we have two new students starting today.  Siblings.  Anna and Avery Scalia.  Let me repeat that, they are new students, just arrived today."  He did not feel he had to elaborate further than that.  They were not first years, but certain rules applied to them.  They would have to be patient before starting to play with either of them.  His attention turned to the new students.  "The two of you should introduce yourselves.  Avery, introduce yourself first.  Then your sister."  It was a little thing, but especially since they were new students surrounded by more experienced students, it was good to get them to interact with the class.  Make friends.  After the protection period ended, their classmates would teach them much more.  The two of them would see plenty of that before the protection period ended, however.

The two siblings would enter and sit in the only open seats available. Avery could feel the eyes not only on him but her sister as well. He could only imagine what the students were thinking about when they looked at them.

Soon enough the teacher would walk in and greet them. Avery hated intrusions but figured it was necessary. With a small nod, he stood up and looked at the class with his cold expression saying, “my name is Avery Scalia,” he said before sitting back down, keeping things simple in his cold soft voice.

When it was Anna’s turn, she could feel her nerves starting to build up. She would stand up nervously and looked at the class. All of the eyes staring at her sent chills down her spine as she squeaked out. “U-um…. Hi… my name is… Anna… S-Scalia….” She stuttered out nervously before quickly sitting back down.

Ah, another socially cold student.  Well, Kaneko was used to that.  Though he did not have same the interest with Avery as he had in Kara.  But he did consider it a responsibility to help all his students and did not intend to neglect his responsibility.  "These two have not had the year here the rest of you have had.  They will have their chaperones of course.  But I expect you all to help them learn their place here.  Help them understand how special it is to be here.  The two you will have many surprises here.  This is the most elite school in the world.  We also do things a little different here.  I can assist some, but it is more the job of your chaperones and classmates to teach you what day to day life on campus is outside of class."  The two would be in for a shock of course.  An exception was unlikely to be made.  Whatever Avery felt, they were not likely to live in the same dorm building, let alone the same room.  They would still be fairly close distance, but it might not feel like it.  Especially in the beginning.

Avery and Anna would both listen along to Kaneko’s words with the boy raising a curious eyebrow at the things he was saying. What did he mean when he said this school did things differently? Well they would both receive their answers later either thanks to their chaperones of other students.

They still had their bags as well as they did not get assigned to their dorms as well either which was a little awkward but hopefully that wouldn’t be much of a distraction. Hopefully they would receive their schedules soon as well. Avery wondered how much classes they would have together if any besides homeroom. Anne had calmed down a little after having to speak publicly but was still a little nervous about what was to come. She was also curious about the teacher’s words but like her brother knew the answers would come soon.

Kara patiently waited in her seat, as usual, finding homeroom to be a painfully long waste of time. During your first two weeks of enrolling, you would start out each day in your assigned homeroom, listening to the teacher give advice and answer questions. Choosing what classes you wanted to try out, you then had your assigned chaperone guide you around the academy while you were allowed to join and try out any and all classes that were being held. This year, Kara and everyone else in this class were going to act as chaperons for the new first years and waste two weeks of their precious time on following younger students around. They had all only started out in this classroom because it was the first day, but during the next two weeks, the two new classmates would be alone with their teacher and their chaperons during these brief homeroom lectures. Who was going to be worse off? The students that would have to waste their time acting as chaperons, or the students that would waste their time walking around with chaperons?

Kara at least could be thankful she had been assigned a girl who would be no trouble for her at all, someone she might even find very interesting if she knew secrets the girl was unlikely to reveal to anyone.  Someone who did not need to be taught much, other than the quirks of academy life.  But no one, Kaneko included, was aware of that.  Though he hoped the chaperone process was something else that might help Kara.

”The class is dismissed.  As you all remember, you had chaperones your first year.  It is now your turn to repeat the process.  Find the student you have been assigned.  Give them the guidance your chaperone gave you.  Do better if you can…Anna, Avery, your circumstances are different.  Remain in the classroom after the other leave.  I will be introducing you to another pair of students.”  He stepped back, watched as the rest of the class gradually left.

With the class being dismissed by Kaneko, Anne and Avery were about to get up to leave as well when they were stopped by the teacher. Both would nod and sat back down in their seats as they began to wait. Avery didn’t want to deal with chaperones. Yes, he did want to know the deal with the school and how things were done here but didn’t want to deal with another person lecturing him and showing him around. Anne on the other hand hoped that her chaperone was nice. She would be even happier if she was a cute girl too, maybe she could even become friends with whomever it was.

As the class made their way out of the room the crowd slowly shrank, though a pair remained in the back corner, silently watching until everyone else left the room.  Once it was done to the five f them, the pair made their way down and stood between the twins and the teacher.  Kaneko was the one who spoke up.  “Every student gets their own chaperone.  Of the four of you can remain together much of the time.   Separation today may not occur until you each go to your separate dorms.”  He turned to the girl behind him first.  “This is your tutor, Anna, Kiyo Shinozaki.”  Then he shifted to the boy.  “And this is yours, Avery, Kazuyuki Serizawa.”  The two older students gave a small bow in greeting.  They did not seem especially friendly with each other, but not hostile either.  They had not spoke much, had not met before, but they understood they would be seeing a lot of each other over the next few weeks.  The twins would likely try to be together as much as possible.

”Welcome to the academy, Anna, Avery.”  Kiyo spoke up.  “My companion here seems to be a quiet man, but the two us will do our best to help you two adjust and consider this your new home quickly.”

Anna would smiled softly as she saw the two, especially Kiyo. She seemed so cheerful plus she was a girl, a cute one too. Maybe she was what she would need to come out of her shell. She would answer, “n-nice to meet you!” As enthusiastically as she could with her stutters.

Avery looked at the girl and then the boy. He didn’t like Kiyo, she was too enthusiastic for him but the boy was quiet and didn’t seem to care, just like him, maybe having him a chaperone wouldn’t be so bad.”

“I will of be available to answer questions and help.  But the two of them are the ones you will be spending much of your time with for the next few weeks.  You will both likely have a roommate in your dorm rooms as well, though I do not know who those will be.”  That was the last the twins’ teacher had to say for now.

”Let’s go then.  We have a lot to show you today.  A decent tour of the campus.  The most important buildings, or ones you want to see most.  Though it may take a few days to show you everything.  You will some very surprising things soon though.”  Kiyo said as she led them out of the classroom, with a friendly tone.  Some of it very surprising, but at least some it a pleasant surprise once they got used to it, she hoped.

Anna would feel her smile growing bigger and brighter as Kiyo spoke more. She was so amazing, she was as the girl whom she felt like she wanted to be, just from her outgoing attitude. Soon enough, the twins got up and soon left with their new tour guides. Anna seemed excited while Avery just came along so that she would know everything he needed to. He would put up with Kiyo and out her outgoing attitude for the while.
