JennyDK Posted November 6, 2022 Posted November 6, 2022 To those of you who are into MTG: Did you see what they are releasing for the 30th anniversary? IF so, how do you feel about it?
JennyDK Posted November 7, 2022 Author Posted November 7, 2022 @SoulReaper Are you up for discussing some MTG sometime?
Balthier Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 I haven't looked, been many years since I played a game. What are they releasing for the 30th?
JennyDK Posted November 10, 2022 Author Posted November 10, 2022 5 hours ago, Balthier said: I haven't looked, been many years since I played a game. What are they releasing for the 30th? 4 packs, 15 cards each, from NEARLY all cards from the Beta block. They come with special backside art,. so they are basically just proxies. The price...get this...999$ for a 4 pack, so pretty 250$ for 15 proxies, you can't even use anywere but with your friends who may or may not allow them,
Balthier Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 (edited) Well, I'm certain not interested I'm buying anything like that. Are those actually selling? Sounds like they were made for people with money to burn. Edited November 11, 2022 by Balthier
JennyDK Posted November 11, 2022 Author Posted November 11, 2022 Since the fanbase, for once, have aligned and think this is bullshit and greedy, I doubt it will sell very well. Do you play Arena?
Balthier Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Modern mostly, and commander. It's been years, and I was a very casual player.
JennyDK Posted November 16, 2022 Author Posted November 16, 2022 I don't really know anything about the modern format. I mostly stick to Legacy and only recently have been starting on Commander - the only thing about the latter I am annoyed with, is the constant use of board wipes. I am a pretty casual player as well. 1
JennyDK Posted February 4, 2023 Author Posted February 4, 2023 @BalthierDo you also play the Commander format?
Balthier Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 Once or twice. Frankly, I don't have much time to play given my personal life commitments. That said, I did find it enjoyable. I tend to go for White and Green decks, either or, or both. I can't remember which, but I had a decent Angel commander at one point.
JennyDK Posted February 4, 2023 Author Posted February 4, 2023 Oh, I see. Sounds like quite a stressful life if you never allow yourself proper breaks - of course, unless you use those breaks for something else. Fair enough. My "main" colours, if you can call it that, are green and red, but I simply try and make themes or gimmicks I find fun. I found a place where I can upload my decklists, so I can share them easily. Like this: https://archidekt.com/decks/3900611#Wort_and_her_army_of_cannon_fodder
JennyDK Posted October 12, 2023 Author Posted October 12, 2023 So I have begun to pull out of tutor cards from decks lately. Both because I like the randomness in my Commander decks and to make room for more fun cards.
JennyDK Posted November 19, 2023 Author Posted November 19, 2023 Are any of you guys playing Commander?
SataiRolePlayingGuy Posted June 8 Posted June 8 I’ve been screwing around with trying to figure out Spelltable since discovering it existed. Only possible way my physical cards might ever see play. Just have to come up with a stand for my iPad, or more likely finally get a new laptop. Of course even if I find good system for the camera, would see if it actually went anywhere, probably be extremely picky who I played with. Both due to the quirkiness of most of my collection, and personal reasons. I still have to remind myself what all the formats are exactly. I’m still used to thinking Type 1 and Type 2. A rather decent chunk of my cards are probably purely ‘Vintage’, but lacking so many power cards that might fall there.
SataiRolePlayingGuy Posted June 30 Posted June 30 So, while slowly adding to my collection, I decided to add a little fun to this topic. “Satai’s Card of the Day.” I say ‘of the day’, but I won’t flood the topic with daily entries. No more than one a day, and fairly random beyond that, for how often they are. A lot of them will be chosen just because I like them, or think I would. The power of them will vary quite a bit. Going to limit it stuff in my collection too, none of the cards that cost a genuine fortune these days (though I do have a small number of cards that are more valuable now than I expected). Entry 1: Library of Leng Not counting Arena, or other video games, I have not played the game since I was a kid in the mid/late 90s. This was a favorite card back then (if I did not have to face Black Vice). I was not good at making efficient decks. My hand sizes often got giant, as I hated discarding cards. In certain other games, I forced my opponents to accept a house rule of letting me have as big a hand as I liked (probably got away with it in part because I very rarely won). Magic made it legal though, with the library here (and other options later). While these days I could probably keep my hand under much better control, I would consider keeping this old favorite for the discard ability. 1
SataiRolePlayingGuy Posted June 30 Posted June 30 Before I eventually start adding more cards of the day, a bit of an elaboration on what is in the collection, a hint of what can be expected. It is actually my second collection. Years ago my brother convinced me to give him my first collection, after I stopped playing. It was mostly 4th Edition and Fallen Empires. A little bit of Revised (the last 1/3 or so of a box a local store had, as my first cards). A little bit of other stuff from around then. Homelands, Ice Age, Alliances, Chronicles, Mirage. A few cheap singles from sets before I started. In 2013, I decided on a whim to begin building a second collection. A mix of stuff that was new at the time, and from the days of the first collection. As far I know the only cards I had in the first collection that I am still missing are two original dual lands, I got with those Revised cards. I kept that up for a few years, then another break where I did not buy much, just some occasional singles. It was the Lord of the Rings set that got me buying again. It had been my hope that would get my collection played again, but it did not work out (had been replaying several other old childhood CCGs with my dad, including a Lord of the Rings one. Unfortunately he got sick while waiting for it to come out. By the time it did come out, he had been sick for some months, it was only getting worse and he was gone a few months after that). I continued buying stuff for a number of Universes Beyond stuff (Lord of the Rings, Street Fighter, Transformers, Warhammer 40,000, Fallout, a few from Jurassic World). Also more recently began buying piles of creatures, and a few other cards from various sets. But the bulk of the collection is still the early days, and the 2013-2014 (2015?) area. 1
SataiRolePlayingGuy Posted July 3 Posted July 3 Time for entry #2 in my cards of the day. The last one was a childhood favorite. This one is not one I have played, but an indirect connection to those days. The man himself, Mishra. So, like I said before, I came into to the game just before 4th Edition came out. Sadly missing Alpha/Beta/Unlimited (and more or less Revised, even if I had a little), Arabian Nights, Antiquities, Legends and the Dark (though Chronicles provided a little bit of stuff from the expansions there). Me and my brother took up the ‘Brother’s War’, me being a little more drawn to the early Mishra cards, him to Urza. When I found out they eventually made ol’ Mishra playable, I made a point to buy it. If the cards ever do see play, I’m sure he will end up in a deck at some point. Plenty of artifacts that may eventually get posted here could be helped by him. 1
SataiRolePlayingGuy Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Entry three, in the card of the day list. Eon Hub. This is one I only very recently discovered and bought. So man cards I had previously rarely if ever played or considered playing that become much more worthwhile now. Especially stuff with cumulative upkeep. This is one that has a chance in being in many decks. I would not be surprised if I had more cards in the collection than I realize that could benefit from this, 1
SataiRolePlayingGuy Posted July 7 Posted July 7 A rare case of two days in a row. What I assume is the only card in the collection (and very few in the game) that would not be playable on Spelltable. The infamous Chaos Orb! Found an (Unlimited) copy on eBay back when I was starting to build the second collection. I could not pass the opportunity just to have one. Guess maybe I could include it if I had a reason to destroy one of my own cards for some reason. But won’t have the opportunity to target an opponent with it. 1
JennyDK Posted September 13 Author Posted September 13 So for a while now, I have been trying to fully complete two different old school sets: The Dark (46/119 cards) Legends (149/310 cards) Both of which have lots of cheap cards you can get, but also have some really, really expensive ones among, especially Legends. Still, I aim to try and get them all over time. The latest expensive card I have gotten was: Which I bought for 1600 DKK, so pretty pricey
