So I rolled to manipulate derek with the information about him being a wannabe motherfucker, im planning to twist the words to frame it that theres gossip going around that he said that well drunk and one of his friends let that slip well he was wasted... can i use the 5+6 i rolled +1 from hot to get him to owe me one and get a string for "letting him know"

You only ever roll when you're performing a move.

This sounds like shutting someone down. You're taking power from him.

That's with cold, so unless you have a -2 in cold you can get a string on Derek with that.

Does Selene know any adults she could reasonably convince to buy her alcohol?

I suppose the only person she really knows who might fit that category might be her boss at the Baja Surf Stylings shop. Which she would probably only ask if she knew he was laid back enough to consider it.

Which I suppose means she'd probably move onto Plan B: the search for Charlotte!

I thought manipulate an npc was a move?

I just looked it up, and this was from the 1st Edition sheet.

It looks like they got rid of Manipulate as a basic move. Now the idea is that Strings are how you tempt and try to entice NPCs to do what you want, and if you want Strings, you gotta Shut Someone Down or Turn Someone On (or do something unique to your Skin's moves).

I think our MC's right that even if you're framing this like you're on his side and looking out for him, it's still putting him on guard and cutting at his ego and probably fits a Cold roll with Shut Someone Down better. (Thought with your stats, I believe you still pass, so yay!)

Use the first page of this sheet. It's the current rules-set

...oh fuck , guess i found the one "other" difference between 1e and 2e monsterheart x.x my whole strategy was based around a move that got removed

That is bad luck, sorry I didn't catch that comparing the sheets earlier 😅

On the plus-side, I still think Velvet can be manipulative like you've imagined her; it's just a little mechanically different to get us on the same page.

Welp... fuck...

well uh... is it too late to pick the other stat spread? Im realizing i kinda... badly fucked up x.x"

Personally, if nobody else minds, then I don't. We're in the opening scene and still kinda learning the game. (Plus, you have a convenient opportunity to update when putting Velvet in the Character Repository thread.)

Tempting someone is offering them an experience point in order to do something you want them to do. For one of the MC's characters they will tell you what sort of thing (bribe, coax, threat, etc) it might take. If it's not something they can do in the scene then they can agree to do it later, and whether or not they end up doing it later is up to them.

. . . welp never mind, cold was the stat for infernal that starts -1... no matter what QnQ... FACK

...what does tempting someone to do what you want entail under pulling strings?..

My entire plan is kinda out of the window XD

Roll +hot to turn someone on - that gives you a string. The stat line you have gives you a +1 hot. Pulling a string allows you to take a +1 on a roll against someone or tempt them to do something they want.

But, don't be afraid to roll a bad stat - failing let's you mark experience. And it's very unlikely you'll be out of the story, no matter how bad things get. Unlike D&D a fail isn't a disaster, it just means the story doesn't go the way you say.

Shit! Fuck! Shitfuck! (everyone go watch Blind Fury with Rutger Hauer for context)

I meant to ask - what's everyone think Dylan finds at the thrift store? I really have no idea how they're "plumbed" but a bikini might answer some questions, Dylan's as much a mystery to themself as they are to me, so I'm open to suggestions.

I imagine, especially since this place is in perpetual summer, Dylan could probably find bikinis, one pieces, and shorts galore.

However I imagine the funniest thing to find would be a mankini.

You know, I don't hate that. What if they have kind of non-committal little boobs that might just be Dylan being really soft but could just as likely be breasts, and they show up in a mankini. Like, I know that it looks kind of like the murder in an Agatha Christie novel in terms of ridiculous stretch, and it might push too close to slap stick, but it is tempting.

Shorts and a tight tank that reveal a kind of "mystery bust" kind of gets to the same place without the potential silliness. Again, thoughts? I don't want to hijack the game with unintended silliness.

Beach town thrift store? Dozens of colorful shirts from festivals, restaurants, and local attractions (probably every version of Playland's merch T-shirt from the last two decades). Same with bucket hats. Beach kimonos, everything from tiger-stripe to slick black with gold kanji prints. Also, everything that retirees living in the area have cleaned out (there's no way Potter's Neck doesn't have a minimum of two retirement communities). Old-Testament-esque sundresses, zoot suits, and the odd pair of parachute pants.

Those are what leap to my brain anyway.

I think shorts and a tank top is the safer option, yeah, although I don't mind the comedy of a mankini.

Could also rock the best of both worlds. Bikini under shorts and tank-top.

That said if Dylan couldn't find something they could ask one of their friends for help too.

I apreciate the help ^-^... sadly its looking like our MC is... 100% right, the way I was wanting to use velvets main strength is Via a cold roll in MH2... which uh... doesnt line up stat wise it seems xnx im currently panicking to figure out how to make my mental vision line up with the mechanical side DX
