Not sure which chat to actually put this I'm just airing my thoughts, but it also relates to the narration.

Staying submissive to the whims of the Miller twins could be risky. They're going to be snapping photos, and Robin will sooner or later be changing into a swimsuit. Not only will it risk going to the party in something very revealing, it also means some risque photos might be taken.

But this depends a little on what Velvet does, she's got a little more social pull on the twins.

That's fair, and what ends up happening is definitely going to be at least a bit in Velvet's hands here. But I think the risk of trusting the Miller twins too much and ending up with compromising pictures being released is a great place to start.

The idea that these pictures could get out to her mom or her aunt even (not just her peers) would be part of that risk. Also, there's a non-zero chance her outfit or any pictures taken could have her leaving the party branded a slut. (I'm not sure how that works with NPCs but getting a Condition applied to her would validate all of Robin's fears she's having here).

Huh, there's actually very few ways I can hand out conditions. I either have to pull a string, or I can give one of a failed shut down attempt. Interesting.

So a string the string here would be them having the photo, and pulling it would be leaking them. For example.

Conditions mostly come from pulling strings. One of my reactions is to take a string, so it doesn't necessarily it's particularly rare. I was just remarking on how I'm unable to just assign conditions like I can harm and strings.

Ok... few questions, are there any strings being given/pulled between robin and velvet here due to helpingwith the makeover? probably should have brought this up sooner but... ah well

I have something im planning that will involve giving a string mid scene to robin and wanted to check if helping with the party prep was her pulling the string on me from her helping me awhile back, or possibly giving a string now since she didn't mention the situation (we kinda glossed over the transition)

I don't think we have any Strings being exchanged yet. If Velvet had been unwilling to help Robin with the makeover, then I could have spent the Sting Robin has on Velvet to tempt her to go along with it. But it seemed like Velvet was good to go anyway.

As far as I can tell, between players we only gain new Strings if we use those Turn Someone On or Shut Someone Down actions. And then we mainly lose them when we spend them with those Pulling Strings actions.

That is remarkably BAD for Dylan. Both of their skin moves hinge on Conditions. Can Conditions emerge from the narrative rather than mechanics?

Its worth mentioning for your first level up you can grab "unresolved trauma" from the ghost playbook, its actually sounding like it would fit well regardless and fairly consistently put you under the traumatized condition

@WickedCadrach I... was going to save using this on PC's for a bit, but this feels too juicy not to... I would like to use my infernal move "uncanny voices" to realize a secret about robin... it can be a fear, a desire, or a secret strength your choice

P.S. to all, I plan to use this on all PC's given the chance early on, so players keep this in mind :3

Hell yeah! 😄 Makes a ton of sense in this scene with Robin being visibly off balance.

Velvet definitely picks up the flash of memory Robin has about her father. Robin's secret is that she saw her father (David), a respected deacon at her family's church, kissing the twenty-two year old church youth leader, Rebecca. When the rumors came out and scandal drove her mother to take her and move to Potter's Neck to be with her Aunt for a bit, Robin said nothing. When the church's investigation began to look into what did or didn't happen, she lied. She's kept what she saw to herself.

I started writing my response and then it became clear. Yes, please make a Turn Someone On roll for this interaction with Robin. I would love to see how that goes 😁

... oh damn their is something so bittersweet about the good christian girl compairing the goth girl who signed a deal with an actual devil  friendly old man, to an angel

Can't just go showing off your supernatural knowledge and empathy to a girl going through a crisis of faith. There's definitely a small... small... part of Robin that's entertaining the idea that Velvet is a literal angel sent to help her. Aaaand we'll see how that goes 😁

I think the way the game is written, a long as you can declare what you're fear is, you don't need MC permission?

The MC gets involved if you pass and get an insight from it, but I think like the other moves you can just decide this is a moment to keep cool. (At least, I hope so. I did not ask permission before Robin's keep cool roll)

that was my first instict but then it occured to me that the way experience works that feels... bad to assume? I dont want to assume i just... can?

Keep cool is kind of an odd one, it's basically do something under fire from Apocalypse World but MH doesn't have clear lines of when you're under duress - you kind of always are.

I rolled mine without asking too, but I think both of ours were similar in that we were reacting to external actions. If I've read everything right (and I may not have, I was crafting a room for Saturday's Bluebeard's Bride game) Velvet's stress is basically guilt, and because that's internal, I'm not sure that keep cool is valid though it is, finally, @roll to seduce's decision. The only thing making her do this is her. She doesn't have to - unless Mr. Ascars pulls a string to shut her down if she chooses to stop. Then she could roll keep cool.

mr ascars is not... actively watching at the moment as far as velvet can tell, which is important for what I have in mind right now.

I do agree that keep cool might not be valid but at the same time... is? I made a weird character and I just want someones final say on if I should roll or not XD It determines like... half of how I approach this next bit
