Another chance - Ranna and Kappei

"Ah... I'm sorry, Reiko. I was out of line, I shouldn't have spoken about your little sister like that." Kappei apologized in muted voice. Ranna really had messed up and she had to stop putting herself in danger like she had yesterday, but it wasn't actually any of his business to lecture her. He was just there to help Reiko. As for Ranna, he got the impression that she was more afraid of admitting that she was wrong, than any punishment that he and Reiko could think up.

"It's okay if she hates me, as long as she doesn't use it to excuse her own actions and behavior." He elaborated as he finished the last food on his own plate. He had never expected her to think kindly of him in the first place, so her sassy mouth and emotional outbursts didn't really bother him as much as Reiko probably thought. Words only really hurt if you took them to heart and didn't know where they were coming from.

It was Kappei’s earlier concern about being able to get through to Ranna that was the source of Reiko’s concern.  “She’s going to be your bride, and me your sister…in-law.  She should be punished, but you two should eventually get along.  Especially since you are going to be living together.”  She answered as she finished her meal.  It was supposed to be all fake, but that did not mean Reiko could not hope it would eventually be more.  Ranna required patience certainly, to warm up to the idea.  It would not happen any time soon, but there was plenty of time.  She would help where she could too.  She saw this as the best chance for Ranna.  She did not feel weird at all about Kappei marrying her sister.

Kappei gave Reiko a warm smile. Back when he had helped her recover and get life back together, talking about her younger sister had helped her. He knew more than most people just how important Ranna was to her sister and how much she loved her. She wanted the best for her, and with her own purity and dreams of a normal romance having been crushed, her wish for her little sister to experience her dream had become even stronger.

"Ranna was supposed to go shopping today with that girl, Kara? We'll head to the registry and get engaged after that." Kappei filled in, deciding to change topics for a little bit. Come to think about it, Kara had told them that she would take a look at Ranna's Mana tomorrow too. Kara Spade was supposed to be this genius daughter and only child of the owner of the Spade Magical Conglomerate. If they wanted to find out about her curse and check if training with her Mana would be safe, then wasn't she exactly the person they wanted help from?

"We'll have to move Ranna's clothes and stuff from her dorm to our place in the Residential Building. Can you help with that, Reiko?" Kappei asked her, thinking it would be better if Reiko packed up Ranna's undergarments and other clothes than if he did. He had to go shopping for the beds and other furniture today himself, as well as some other stuff, so it would be a great help if Reiko could help them. Well, he would have asked her for help if he didn't need it anyway. It would have been wrong to leave Reiko out of her sister's life.

Yes, Kara.  Hopefully that would go well.  Reiko still wished a little that someone else from the club had volunteered, but hopefully this would work out well for both of them  Kara could use a real friend, someone that would hopefully let her open up and warm up a little.  It was probably too much to expect any major steps in that direction today, but maybe it would be a step in the right direction.  She was not going to say anything, but then she realized something.  "Hm?  You've met Kara?"  She asked, curiously.  She doubted Ranna would have brought her up to Kappei, or any of the club members really.  At least not by name.  "But, yes, I will take care care of Ranna's clothes."  That was nothing to her, she would take care of that easily enough.  She had experience seeing all of Ranna's things, had experience helping her buy some of it in the past, especially her first girl's clothes.  She doubted she would see any big surprises in that stuff.

"Yes, we met her yesterday." Kappei answered as he sipped on his coffee. It had just been a chance encounter, but looking back at it, a really lucky one. He'd have to tell Reiko more about it later, though. Right now, they had to deal with Ranna and finish up what they had been doing.

"Now, about Ranna... I have been giving this a lot of thought, and I think we have to punish her." Kappei muttered in a low tone, not loud enough for Ranna to overhear them from the other room. The little brat had gone too far yesterday, and if they just left things be, she would likely just get worse. It was a sensitive topic, though. He was just butting in here. It really wasn't any of his business whether Ranna got castigated for her actions or not.

"She didn't get punished when she got herself drunk, and now she did the same thing again." It was true. Even though what she had done last night was far worse, they were similar, and she probably got drunk for the same reason she took that candy.

"So I think she needs to be punished twice this time." He really had given it a lot of thought, and in the end, he had arrived at this conclusion. Ranna needed to be punished by both of them, and Kappei already knew exactly how he was going to punish that kid.

Reiko had to wonder if Kara unintentionally gave a bad impression, it unfortunately would not have been the first time.  Though Kappei did not seem too bothered by her and Ranna having their errand together, so it probably was not that bad and she would drop that subject for now.  His main point was correct, as she had already agreed.  Though it probably did need to be considered Ranna had no reason to be aware of just how dangerous the candy was.  It would not have been, if not her specific situation.  That just meant the punishment should not be as severe as it could have been though.

“I take it you already have something in mind?”  She should check that first, see if it was something she would have thought of first, or if it was something she should build off of.  She could also try to restrain him if it was too much, though she doubted that would be the case.

"Yes, actually I do." Kappei nodded, finishing his coffee. His idea was pretty straightforward and he hoped that Reiko agreed with him. It was important that they were on the same page here. Ranna was a smart kid and if there was even a chance for her to weasel her way out of punishment, she would take it. Not that he would blame her, she was a kid after all.

"She's not going to act like an adult here... so I say we shouldn't treat her like one. " He wasn't joking. This was the best coarse they could take. It was annoying, but since she refused to be mature and act like an adult, blaming everyone else for her own mistakes, then she should just see what that brought her. "I'll decide on one punishment, and then you will decide on the other."

To be fair, Ranna was not an adult yet.  Though Reiko understood the point.  There was some risk here, Ranna was likely to be extra bitter about the whole engagement process now, depending on what the punishment was and possibly even try to get out of it.  It was not going to be the happy moment that sort of thing was meant to be, though it would not have been very happy either way.  But if Kappei was prepared for that, Reiko was not going to say anything.  She simply nodded along, waiting to see if he planned to tell her his idea immediately.

"She wont get it even if we spell it out to her. So if she is going to act like a kid, then she can just wear her hair in twintails." Maybe the punishment seemed a bit silly, but it was the best thing he could come up with on such short notice. Actually, Kappei thought it a pretty brilliant punishment. Not only would it serve as a reminder to Ranna every day that her childishness was causing her to get punished, but it would also be a light enough punishment that she shouldn't hate him too much. Now, all that was needed was for Reiko to agree with his idea and come up with a similar punishment herself.

"So, what do you say? Are we in agreement?" He asked her, hoping she would agree immediately. They had a lot they had to do today, so they should just deal out the punishment swiftly. It wasn't anything he was happy about doing after all, it was just something that had to be done.

It was a bit simple.  Did not really feel like a punishment, except in the sense that Ranna avoided any hairstyles that were considered overly feminine.  It was actually a little hard to predict how she would react to that.  Not especially thrilled but but not as angry as some punishments could make her.  She nodded again as she considered what to do to for her part, though she did not have much time to think about it.  The thing is what Ranna considered punishments and what she considered punishments were rather different.  Things that she did to help were sometimes treated as if they were punishments.  That being the case, there was something she could add to this.  "Dress her however you want, while you are at it, within reason."  Of course Ranna would be wearing her uniform much of the time, but what she wore under it, or outside of class was more open.  She would not be thrilled about that.  There was also the question of how long this would last.  Ranna might or might not find that part considerably more annoying, depending on what he chose.

Reiko wanted to take away Ranna's right to decide how she dressed? And she wanted him to control what she wore in the future? He had to give it to the older Rangorn sister, she certainly could come with a harsh punishment. But maybe it was a little to hard? Or no, it wasn't something that they could just drop on Ranna now that she was going to get engaged to him. She'd just argue that they were making her his slave or dress up doll.

"That's a good idea. But maybe we can give her the specifics after the engagement is registered?" Kappei suggested hoping that Reiko would agree. Even if Reiko was the one deciding on the punishment, he was the one that was going to get most of not all the ire from it. They should out a limit on it too like he was going to do with her hair. Just make her understand that it would only be until she she started behaving and proved to them that she could act like an adult and not put herself in danger anymore.

Reiko was not that bothered by waiting.  If anything she understood it was better to go light at least until the engagement process was over.  She just wanted to give Kappei her idea, since it was likely to start when she was not around.  After this morning, she was not sure when she would see them next.  Though it was likely she would see them later at some point, as she helped move Ranna's current clothes around.  To her it was not an especially severe punishment, though she was sure Ranna would be more annoyed by Kappei doing that sort of thing, compared to her.

"That's all up to you.  Start it whenever you think is best."  Reiko did agree that punishment was necessary, but she did not care that much about when it started.  She thought they could probably even wait a day or two, though she would not stop Kappei from doing it sooner, if he thought it was best.  It was probably safe to wait at least until everything with both Kara and the engagement process was over with and the two of them were back in their new home.

Kappei gave Reiko a nod and stood up, leaving the breakfast table so that he could go fetch Ranna. Since they were in agreement, there was nothing more that needed to be said. But while the two of them had already resolved themselves to do this, how would Ranna react? Certainly, she wouldn't be happy about it and would probably respond with sarcasm and anger. Yeah, that was how she was going to react, but would there be a part of her that accepted that she only had herself to blame here? He hoped there was, because she really needed to learn. Grabbing Ranna's clothes, he pushed the door to his bedroom open again and found the little brat sprawled out on his bed. Her head buried in his pillow as she lay on her stomach, despite claiming she wasn't a real girl, she sure acted like one.

"Are you just going to lay there all day, or do you plan to go finish your breakfast and brush your teeth?" Teal definitely wasn't Ranna's color, but she really could look good in anything. He really loved looking at a girl from this angle, and the girl's cute little butt looked just right for the plucking. Looking was okay, but he would never even entertain the idea of doing anything more.

“That doesn’t sound like a bad idea.”  Ranna’s muffled voice came out from under the pillow, regretting her brief peace had already ended.  She was not looking forward to anything happening today.  Well, she was still trying to be optimistic about Kara, but she would be more than happy to skip the rest of it, and thought Kappei should have been more careful about making that offer.  Though she wanted to be doing it in her bed instead.

”I’m done eating…give me my clothes and maybe you will get me to stand up.”  Being able to get dressed, with privacy, was what had making her most difficult this morning.  She did not care about moving at this point, he had already seen it all.  She just wanted to know her clothes were there.

"If you want to say something, at least sit up properly." Kappei grumbled, annoyed that Ranna had just remained in bed and not even looked at him. Having been so adamant about not revealing any skin earlier, the kid was now just laying there in her panties and a tank-top, seemingly having forgotten the state of undress that she was in. But she had asked him to give her clothes back, so that meant that she was aware, right? What was going through her head right now? Did she care about him seeing her in her underwear or not? If she was fine with just putting her ass on display like this for him, then maybe this should be how she dressed from now on in their future apartment? The idea would likely draw him a lot of her ire, but it was supposed to be a punishment.

Ranna had not forgotten.  She was just sick of caring after all the nonsense at the table.  After abandoning the blanket it was not worth bothering anymore.  What was she supposed to do anyway, leaving the blanket out there and not having her clothes?  She could not really hide it even if she wanted to, and more was kept hidden than if she got up.  No, she was done with that, and after all that she was not going to be the one to give in this time.  “I’m not getting up without clothes to put on.”  She had no idea why he expected anything else.  Why shouldn’t she do what was needed to get them back?  Wasn’t he the one being childish now?

"Well if the little kid sits up properly, maybe she will get her clothes." Kappei grumbled. He was really annoyed with her behavior, but there wasn't much he could do about it. The way she was just laying there in bed, he should have just given her ass a hard slap and told her to get up. But he couldn't exactly do that. Not only was the girl's sister waiting just outside, Ranna's reaction would probably have been really bad. Actually, how would Reiko have reacted if he gave her sister's ass a slap?

"Now get up! We weren't finished talking out there." He finished, throwing her clothes onto her on the bed. He had left her shoes outside of the room, but aside from the school uniform, there was the white training bra too that Ranna had been wearing underneath the tank-top she had slept in. After all, even if she had started wearing a bra when she was awake, they weren't exactly comfortable to sleep in.

Still being childish.  What good would come out of this conversation?  Both were being stubborn.  Both thought they were right.  Well Ranna did the other side to a degree, but why should she acknowledge that, when her side was not being considered at all?  She was powerlessly being pushed by the sister and her friend.  “…Yes, daddy…”. She said, getting up, starting to dress, with her back to him.  She was thinking Kappei was acting much more like he wanted to be her father than the husband he was trying to become.  What was he some ultra-traditionalist now?  Either way, she had come to fear/respect Reiko in ‘mom mode’, Kappei was just annoying her with this though.

"When you are done here, go brush your teeth in the bathroom." Kappei chuckled. Her sassy behavior definitely wouldn't be accepted by Reiko, but Kappei thought it was preferable to her cold and angry mood. If you just accepted that she was a rude brat then you could deal with her fairly easily. It would have been better if Ranna had been more mature and acted rationally, but since that seemed off the table, it seemed that their engagement and future marriage would be a relationship closer to that of a father and daughter than that of two friends. Turning around, Kappei walked out of the bedroom and sat down the table again. Grabbing the coffee can, he poured himself another cup of coffee.

Well that went better than it might have.  Ranna expected another angry or irritated remark.  Of course she did not want him to seriously like a father figure, but she would just deal with the situation on a day to day basis.  It was better than him trying to act like a husband for real, at least.  At least he was likely to stay out of her bed.

Just to have a little more peace, she did exactly that, after getting dressed.  Heading to the bathroom to brush the teeth.  He said they were not done talking, and she was not looking forward to the conversation to come.  She did not know what it would be exactly, but was not something to be excited about. Though after the brief peace of brushing she had to go back and deal with it.  With a reluctant sigh, she stepped back towards the kitchen.

Kappei waited patiently in the small kitchen as the young girl brushed her teeth in his bathroom. He wasn't her father or even her older brother, but he felt a bit happy when she actually listened to him and took care of herself. As she finally returned to the table, he waited to see if she was going to sit down again before starting.

"I'm just going to jump right into it." He said, glancing at Reiko before returning his eyes to Ranna. She had run out on them earlier when he had been trying to explain to her why they were so upset and why what she had done was wrong.

"Ranna, you put yourself in danger when you got drunk, and despite being told not to, you endangered yourself again yesterday." Maybe she didn't want to hear this, but if she was going to learn from this, it was important for her to know why she was being punished.

"So, what do you think we should do about this?" He asked her. He was giving Ranna a chance here to redeem herself a little. Even if she felt that it was unfair, surely she should be aware that she deserved to be punished for her actions.

Of course the main issue was ignored again.  It was all about what she did again.  No acknowledgement of why she might have done it, how uncomfortable she was with all of this or the fact she was apparently just supposed to know the candy was much more dangerous for her than it was for most people, without anyone telling her.  Was there a point to bring it up?  Would it just be ignored again?  It was always about what she did after all.  No one else ever had any fault.  That was what made her so reluctant to admit anything.  It was all one way.  Admitting she was wrong, no admission on their part.

”You are going to do what you want anyway, no matter what I say.  What I say won’t change anything.  Just do whatever you already decided.”  She said, plainly, without anger or detectable bitterness.  She just surrendered at this point, gave up, so no point in arguing or making her point.  Might as well just get it over with.

Ranna's petulant behavior did nothing for her case and only cemented further in Kappei's mind that the girl was just a brat. She didn't understand at all why she was being punished here, nor was she interested in finding out. Kappei glanced at Reiko again, then put his coffee cup down again. There was no point in being flustered by her. He had figured she would be like this to begin with.

"That's right, you already had your second chance, and you blew it." Kappei told her matter-of-factly. He thought he understood her pretty well and why things had ended up the way they had, and he felt sorry for her. But she was still guilty. He had constantly warned her, but she had continued to reject his advice and help, and this is why it had ended up like this.

"That's why we are both going to punish you." She had betrayed their trust, so there was no other way around it. She probably thought she was being treated unfairly here, but given time, he hoped she would come to her senses.

Ranna understood it perfectly.  She was just too annoyed to show it the way Kappei wanted, and his refusal to see why she was annoyed just made her more adamant about it.  What she wanted was not that significant.  But she understood she was not going to get it.  That it would just be ignored or misunderstood if she tried to explain it.  If she had not understood she would not have just given up, she would be arguing much harder.  Perhaps even trying to escape.  If Kappei did not like her attitude, that was his fault, just like what she did was mostly her fault.

She had nothing to say to that, it would not accomplish anything.  She just waited.  She assumed one or both of them were going to start immediately.  Might as well just get it done, or hear about what it was if it was not going to happen in the room.  Just deal with it.  That was her best option here.  She was not looking forward to hearing what it was though.

"Okay..." Kappei clapped his hands together to get both of the sisters attention. Ranna would probably dislike the kind of punishment he gave her but he had known that from the start. What worried him though was how she would react to getting punished twice. It was a perfectly logical response to what she had done since she had avoided punishment the first time, but would she really see it that way? Probably not.

"Starting today and up until you convince us that you aren't just a little brat anymore, you are going to wear your hair in twintails." The punishment really did sound rather ridiculous now that he said it out loud, didn't it? He didn't have anything they could tie her hair with either, right now, so he would have to go buy it and give it to her before they registered their betrothal. would this make it worse, or better?
