Another chance - Ranna and Kappei

Recommended Posts

Reiko might have told Ranna that, but she would have also told Ranna not to eat in her underwear, if anything she was happy Ranna seemed to be conscious about her body.  There were proper times and places to show it off...of course the rules about that here were much more relaxed than most places.  Still, a proper lady should not do that, at least not around others, unless she was trying to get sex.  She wanted to be consistent.  She was going to let Kappei try whatever he wanted to punish her, but she was remaining hands off for now, quietly eating her own breakfast.  Ranna was still on guard, but as long as Kappei and Reiko did not try anything she was going to remain calm and not mouth off without reason.  "Yes."  She kept it simple and to the point.  Watching to make sure that was the only thing he intended to do.

Kappei hurriedly buttered one of the toasted slices of bread then used the cheesehovel and cut her a generous number of slices of cheese. Putting the cheese on the toast he put it on Ranna's plate. Finished helping the younger Rangorn sister, he pushed the cheese and cheesehovel, as well as the remaining slice of bread and bucket of butter closer Reiko. Ranna was obviously giving him the typical grumpy teen attitude, but in doing so she only ended up looking more like small kid.

"You shouldn't wear a bed blanket to the breakfast table Ranna." Kappei told her in a a casual voice as he brought he took a sip from his coffee. He had buttered Ranna's toasted bread, but since Reiko was closer to being a real adult, he knew she could butter her own bread.

"Tell a certain someone to give my clothes and I'll put them on.  I already know how much you want to see my body, but you only get one meal right now.  I'm not doing this because I want to."   It was not like Ranna had no memory of the previous night.  This just felt more like his earlier attempts to get her clothes off.  He made it very hard to believe he did not perverted reasons for this.  If he wanted to convince her this was all fake, he really just saw her as a kid, maybe he should understand why she was doing this.  "Look, you wanted to talk, unless it was more nonsense about taking clothes off, just talk."  She expected it was probably something to do with the previous night, might as well just get it over with.

Putting his cup back down, Kappei put some bacon bacon and egg on his fork and ate it. Another great success! Practice made perfect, and he had a lot of practice making breakfast for himself. Now, what the little girl to his left was saying might have been true, but it had also been painfully predictable. She thought this was about her clothes, but she was missing the big picture again. She should be able everything that had happened yesterday, so what he was going to say shouldn't come as a surprise to her.

"Ranna, why do you keep doing useless things?" He asked her. After three days he believed that he understood her pretty well now. Reiko had been right, her little sister was very smart. But maybe because of this, she wasn't able to come to accept reality. She kept on arguing with him, fighting over the smallest things and digging her heels into the ground. Just complaining and refusing to compromise and face reality, she was giving ground and losing on the more important matters.

"Nobody here at the table wants you to sit there without clothes on. But fighting over it, you are losing more than you gain. Your sister loves you and think you are fine just the way you are, but do you really want her to keep thinking of you as a kid forever?" He wasn't asking her to sit there in just her underwear, but she wasn't acting like an adult here at all. Worse, she seemed to be perfectly fine with him and her older sister thinking of her as a much younger kid. But here the dissonance came into play. She couldn't have it all. If she acted like a kid, she would be viewed and treated like a kid. Reiko would make her food for her, and buy her clothes and try to find friends for her. Refusing to face reality, she was losing her agency.

She was acting like a kid?  If Reiko had just given her the clothes, they would not be in the position.  Ranna did not know what he thought she should have done differently, it was getting tiresome that as far as she was concerned anything she might do probably seemed childish.  Reiko, she was a different matter.  There was a whole history there, a very complicated relationship.  Not necessarily bad, but with a degree of tension over what Reiko wanted her to be and become.  The age difference and semi-parental role Reiko had sometimes taken had an influence on it too.  "That seems to be more of a problem with you than her.  I know exactly what Reiko wants, we have had that talk countless times.  You just think I should be perfectly calm and play along with this whole marriage thing.  But if you also want to have the same talk countless times, it does not matter whether it is fake, it does not matter if there are not better options, this is not such an easy thing for me to do."  It was partially about the whole marrying a boy as a girl thing, she also had a hard time not looking at it as a serious life changing thing.  She was not being a child, she was trying to deal with that.  That was what she had to say about that as she stuck one arm out and cautiously ate while staying on guard and trying to keep the blanket secure.

Kappei decided to not press Ranna on the matter anymore for the moment, she had the right idea trying to act calmly right now, but she still didn't seem to have grasped what he was trying to make her understand here. Whether she covered up with his blanket or not was irrelevant, the issue was that she had caused all this herself. Just like how she had only herself to blame for having been cursed back then, it was her own fault that she ended up having to sleep in his bedroom. Instead of not acting stupid back then because it could put her in danger, she was acting stupid now because she was worried about her sister and him seeing her in her underwear.

"Where did you get that candy from?" Kappei said, getting straight to the point as he seemingly changed the topic. Instead of taking responsibility, Ranna had started talking about how the fake marriage wasn't easy for her to do. Instead of dealing with the situation, she was complaining again.

“I already told you, a nice lady.”  Ranna was not especially trying to be bratty there.  She honestly knew nothing about the woman.  Kappei should have been able to figure out where it happened already, which was the only other thing she could possibly say about it.  She did not know her name could barely give a physical description, with how little they interacted.  Far as she could tell, the woman had good intentions, was generally trying to help.  Though of course the lady almost certainly knew nothing about her unless she was another friend of Reiko’s, even in that unlikely event, the woman probably would not have known exactly who she was.

"A nice lady huh? Does this nice lady have a name?" Kappei pressed, unsure if Ranna was trying to be vague and hide the woman's identity, or if she genuinely didn't know. Both possibilities were frightening in their own way. Had she befriended some bad elements at the school? Or was she just that much of a dumb brat that she would accept things she clearly didn't know what was, from people she didn't even know? Why did this kid have to be so irresponsible and reckless?

"When did she give you the candy?" he added before Ranna could answer, figuring chances were that she had to have gotten the magical candies recently. Why would she otherwise have just eaten them now? Or had she tried these things before? If she had, then he didn't know what to think. Ranna hadn't even started eating her breakfast yet, but that was understandable. Being cross-examined like this before she had even been able to put anything in her mouth, her food would probably get cold before she had even a chance to taste it.

"I'm sure she does.  I'm sure she was not some wild woman who wandered onto campus without any human interaction.  But one of you would be more likely to know her than me."  The girl did seem to about Reiko and Kappei's age, as far as Ranna could guess.  But she had said about all she could say about the subject.  Just one of many people she briefly passed at one point or another on campus, without asking their name or anything else.  "Considering how much you insist on watching me, you should be able to figure it out."  She found it hard to believe anyone in her class could have provided it, she was a little surprised he had even needed to ask to ask where she found it.  There were not of opportunities.

She slipped a hand out of the blanket cautiously.  That was the other thing that had delayed her eating, she was still not convinced Kappei was not going to try to rip the blanket off while she ate.  Though now she did her best to begin to eat breakfast while on guard for any sudden movement towards her.

Kappei briefly glanced at Reiko, worry and concern cleary written all over his face. Ranna was being very rude and sarcastic as usual, but she was telling them that she clearly been accepting candies from people she didn't even know. Reiko had experienced first hand what trusting strangers at the academy could lead to, and Kappei was sure it wasn't something she wished her younger sister would experience.

"So, let me get this straight, Ranna..." Kappei said in what could only be called a disappointed tone. He glanced at Reiko again, then returned his gaze to the little girl, trying to make her understand the seriousness of what he was going to say. Ranna really needed to hear what he was going to say now, and he hoped that Reiko would chime in if he missed something important.

"You accepted some sort of candy that you don't know anything about, from some random girl that you don't know anything about?" No matter how much the little girl wanted to play it off as if it wasn't important, surely she should have some shame right? Surely she wouldn't try to deny how utterly stupid what she had done was, right? "Do you have some sort of secret wish to be raped or something?"

Ranna was not stupid.  She understood what Kappei and Reiko were trying to do.  It was not even that she could not see their point, but she was getting incredibly frustrated that it was all one way, that the point she kept making about why she did it, what she thought about all this was being ignored.  Again.  Out of some attempt to punish or guilt trip her.  She was done making that argument though, it clearly was not going to change anything.  She was just not going to say anything and keep eating.  Was that the maturity he wanted?  After that last comment especially.  No, if she said one word, she was likely to snap.  Just be done with it.  Get what she had been dreading over with already.

Reiko, for her part did think this point needed to be made.  But she could see Ranna seething under the surface.  She could reinforce this later.  But especially with what else was going to happen today, she was staying quiet for the moment.  Wait until the conversation shifted again before speaking up.  Ranna had made mistakes, Reiko thought she understood that deep down, but other things had been filling her mind for a few days now.  Had she really relaxed and been herself since this started?  Even at the club meeting, she probably had not completely.  Though Reiko saw some positive signs there.

Ranna was getting frustrated and upset, and that was kind of the problem wasn't it? Kappei wasn't exactly trying to guilt trip her here, he was simply stating facts and and highlighting the problems. But Ranna obviously felt she was being treated unfairly. Instead of actually reflecting on what she had done and accepting just how dangerous it was, she focused on that she was being lectured. Yes, instead of accepting that her own actions had been dangerous and that Kappei had saved her from exactly the sort of thing she feared, she saw him and Reiko as her enemies.

"I already explained this to you before, but it seems you didn't listen. People are expected and encouraged to bond with each other at the academy." Kappei sighed again, deciding to elaborate on things he had already mentioned before and he was sure Ranna understood. Her actions were the sort of things that parents would ground and punish their kids for. "If you don't want to attract that kind of sexual attention, you can't behave the way you did yesterday."

Was this ever going to end?  The point was made, if he wanted Ranna to get on her knees and apologize, that was not going to happen. It was just irritating her even more.  All one sided.  Kappei knows best, Kappei knows best.  She was doing her best to keep it in, nothing good would come out of saying anything right now.  She was still on the edge, on the verge snapping over every little irritation of the last few days that had been piling up.  At this point she was inclined to just find something to make her sneeze and get out of here.  All this was about trying to protect her as a girl, become the little sister.  Maybe it was time to put an end to all this nonsense from both Kappei and Reiko.  Force the girl body into isolation.  If she was a boy, none of this would bother her.  There was nothing to protect her from.

Reiko finally spoke up.  Ranna was on the verge of doing something.  Something different but that could be rather problematic.  "...I do believe she understands the point you are trying to make, Kappei.  She is just feeling a lot of stress about everything coming up.  Regular classes, the new club, marriage in general."  She tried to reassure it was not specifically him she was upset about marriage.  At the moment she just did not want to marry a boy.  Honestly did not want to get married at all at her current age.  Reiko could not entirely blame Ranna, but she believed it was the best choice, and that Ranna would warm up to it eventually.

Kappei shook his head. Reiko was being way too lenient here with her beloved little sister. He was sure that Ranna understood what he was saying, but what did it matter if she understood, if she was just going to repeat the same mistake in the future. She still thought of herself as correct here and was just angry that she was being lectured.

"That's wrong, Reiko. If she really accepted her fault here, then she wouldn't have repeated it yesterday. She got drunk during our first outing, and then two days later she goes and takes drugs." When he spelled it out like this, it should be obvious to Reiko what he was getting at. Ranna hadn't learned anything the first time, and if they didn't make sure she actually listened to them this time, she would continue doing similar things in the future. She was a kid, but that was even more reason why they had to reign her in. Her emotional problems were irrelevant here. It didn't really matter why she acted out, she still had to stop. If not for their sake, then for her own. Of course, unbeknownst to Kappei, Ranna had never been allowed to learn how to control her own Mana. Because of her curse, it had simply been deemed to dangerous. This was why the effect the candy had on her yesterday had been so strong.

Reiko did not think Ranna should go unpunished.  But the moment was very risky.  She was trying to defuse the situation.  Before anything too ugly was said or done.  It was very possible Ranna would do so.  Especially if Kappei said something else along the lines of asking if she wanted to be raped.  She let out a soft sigh.  “You have to understand, Kappei…Ranna is genuinely unaware of how dangerous that was.  With her particular circumstances, as well as our family’s, she is completely lacking in training with anything related to mana.  Has not had certain examinations she needs soon.”  The subject of the curse and its lack of examination was awkward to bring up.  Especially since even Ranna did not fully understand what she was talking about.

"Her... Mana?" Kappei's voice softened somewhat and turned his head to look at Reiko instead. What was she talking about? Ranna had acted like a brat and not only tried to get drunk, but then two days later after that dangerous experience, accepted weird gifts from somebody she didn't even know. What did this have to do with her Mana? No, actually... was Reiko trying to tell him that Ranna didn't have any Mana experience at all?

"I'm a little lost here, Reiko. Are you saying Ranna hasn't had any Mana training at all?" If that was the case, then forget about the danger of getting sexually assaulted, there had actually been a danger to her life. The though sent a shiver crawling up his spine. If her sister had been in this much danger, how was Reiko able to keep such a calm expression? The girl's nerves must be practically frazzled! This damn brat! What the hell was she doing here!

Reiko had been much more worried last night.  Angry and worried, while trying to remind herself Ranna was not as aware of the circumstances as perhaps she should have been.  She truly believed Ranna would not have ate the candy if she knew about all that.  "It was not a thing available to most people back home, unfortunately.  Ranna has...other things complicating matters as well."  She was trying to avoid an argument over whether Ranna was really a boy or girl, which was normally what happened whenever she mentioned the curse.  "There are...expensive...examinations she needs, because of that.  Unavailable back home, but maybe finally available here."  She did not fully understand the details herself.  It was mostly a conversation between her parents and the doctor.  All she knew for sure was the circumstances of the curse needed a long delayed examination.  A curse, supposedly by a demon and all the effects it might have on someone was a subject she knew little about.  Now it was probably more important to get those done.  Not necessarily today, but very soon at least.

"So there was such a thing...." Kappei felt like a bit of a fool. Of course there would be a Mana problem, she was cursed! While there was a whole magical industry researching magical ailments, it wasn't something that could be easily dealt with. Living in a rural area, Ranna had not had access to the magical experts that could have looked into her case and possibly helped her. But things should be different now. The academy had access to some of the best magical research in the world. But Ranna should have been aware of all of this, right? If she had never had never been allowed to train her Mana she must have been given a lecture about it. Ranna needed to reflect and understand that she was in the wrong, but this was all too much. Where should he even start?

"Ranna, are you starting to understand now,  just how badly you messed up yesterday?" Kappei muttered, turning attention back onto the younger Rangorn sister. She had seriously messed up big time yesterday, and it was time for her to face the consequences now,

What Ranna was understanding was there were things she was never told.  Reiko and to an extent Kappei were dancing around it.  Kappei did not understand she did not consider herself completely blameless here, but she was incredibly irritated still, between what he said earlier, and acting like he did not understand why she did what she did and probably still seeming to not care there were things about this she did not know.  Why should she have assumed something like was physically dangerous?  Especially since it sounded like it only was because of something unusual.  What the hell did he want? Her to get on her knees and cry about how she was so sorry?  She was still too angry to say anything that would not just make things worse.  All she had wanted was an understanding of how they got here, that while she did share in the fault it was not only her fault.  Though the point to bring that up with best outcome had passed.  Why say anything?  It would just be twisted into her thinking she did nothing wrong.  This whole engagement was a punishment for her, and she was sure there would be more, no matter what she did.

Kappei had never for even a second believed that Ranna would just apologize, but he'd hoped she had shown at least a little bit of remorse. However, it seemed she was too much of a brat to even do that. No, even if she understood that she had messed up, she was still not accepting the reality of it. Since she wasn't going to act mature, he just had to spell it out to her then, didn't he?

"I don't know if you knew what that candy would do to you, Ranna. But eating something a stranger had given to you if you didn't even know what it was is dangerous." She had to have known, right? Or at least suspected. Why else would she become intoxicated while on the train? She must have taken that candy, thinking something childish like that the candy would make their trip back on the trolley less annoying?

"But ignoring that whole business, what you did on the trolley was bad in itself. I warned about the danger, and then you just went ahead and did exactly what I had told you not to do!" She should remember exactly what she had done on the train and what he was talking about. He shouldn't have to repeat what had happened and he was sure that Ranna didn't want him to do that either what with Reiko there listening.

Oh this was just great.  He was complaining about not listening now?  Ranna was getting sick of this.  There was a reason she was not ‘showing’ any remorse she might have felt.  If she had just been given her clothes, shown any understanding of why she had done it, she might have actually apologized.   Certainly been willing to see the point.  But she was too angry right now.

”Not listening?!  Not listening?!”  She jolted up, the chair screeching back, but still standing.  “Whatever!  You are forcing me into this marriage, forcing me to live with you, not listening to the fact I’m not a girl.  But fine, you want to see this so badly.  If you want to stare at this so badly, fine look!”  She let the blanket drop, just getting sick of all this.  Reiko, silently watching, hoping neither did or said anything they would regret later.

Kappei had pretty much expected that Ranna would throw a tantrum, she was just a brat after all. Unable to listen and prone to emotional outbursts and hissyfits, he supposed that switching back and forth between being a girl and a boy probably made it even harder for her to learn how to deal with her own emotions. How did you even deal with a fussy kid like her? He hoped Reiko had at least half an answer, because he felt like he was drawing a blank here. He had already explained everything to her, so it just seemed to him that she didn't even want to listen. What did she even take him for, exposing herself like this?

"What do you want me to look at?" Kappei asked her, a confused and tired look on his face. Did she really think he wanted to see her scrawny body this early in the morning? Admittedly, Ranna was more than just a cute kid, she was downright gorgeous. But she was still just a skinny little brat who seriously lacked in the chest department. That would probably change with time given how busty her older sister was, but right now her main appeal was her face. Well, he supposed her legs, hips, waist, arms, and butt were nice too, but only if they were into that childish appeal that she had.

"Listen, teal really isn't your color. If you want to impress anyone, you should at least wear underwear that flatters you." He added more as a joke, even though he was serious. Ranna would look cute no matter how she dressed, but that didn't mean she shouldn't put some effort into what she wore.

Ranna could not deal with this anymore.  She needed a break, especially with what was happening later in the day.  This denseness.  Again not listening, just proving her point.  With a sigh, she walked away without saying a word.  Dropped back on the bed.  She had enough to eat as she was concerned.  She was just going to stay until she was given her clothes and it was it was time to leave.  She did not want to deal with either of them for as long as she could.

”It could have gone worse.”  Reiko quietly observed.  Kappei did not say anything that made the situation drastically worse.  Though the underlying problem remained.  Ranna was still stressed out, upset, the question of punishment had to eventually be considered too, though it had to be done properly.  Making the point, without causing deeper damage.

This was why he hated dealing with people that much younger than himself. Kids Ranna's age seemed to be incapable of self-reflection of any kind. He was only nineteen years old himself, but trying to explain things to a fourteen year old girl made him feel like he was much older. Her immaturity alone, the fact that Ranna was a girl made the whole thing even worse. Even though she would deny it, she was definitely not acting or thinking like a boy here. No, at this point he probably wouldn't even call her a tomboy.

"She can't behave like this, Reiko." He told Ranna's older sister, noting the difference as well as the similarities between the two siblings. Reiko had been completely broken back when he had first met her and helped her, but she had done her best and regained her own sense of self. But Ranna definitely wasn't as strong as her big sister. Lashing out and thinking of herself as a victim, her fierce attitude just highlighted how fragile she really was. If anything like what had happened to her sister had happened to Ranna, he wasn't sure that she could have handled it even half as well.

"That kid, she has to start taking responsibility for her own actions." He sighed, stuffing some of egg and bacon into his mouth. Ranna had to learn, and the sooner the better. This wasn't something they could just ignore and just hope that she would learn with time. Despite all his best efforts, it was mostly luck that had stopped something really bad from happening so far.

"She needs to learn that there are consequences." What Ranna needed was a good spanking, but he would refrain from suggesting that. It didn't seem she even understood why he had asked her to strip yesterday. He had wanted to make sure that she didn't have any more candy hidden, and taking her behavior into account it was obvious that he couldn't have just trusted her word on it.

Both of them had the temptation to spank Ranna.  Reiko had the urge more yesterday though but held back with the uncertainty of the danger.  “I don’t disagree.  But you have to be careful, do it right.  She is scared of what is coming.  If she is punished carelessly, she might hold a grudge for a long time.”  Fake marriage or not, Kappei intended to marry Ranna.  That just complicated things further.  Being ‘punished’ by a supposedly equal partner.  If he was too harsh, living with her was going to be very uncomfortable.  But he was right something needed to be done.  Soon, but it did not necessarily need to be this moment.  Only delaying though if it was necessary to think or prepare the punishment, maybe to let Ranna calm down a little first.
